Yeah, gonna be that guy, I just don't see the point of this remake.
Because RE4 prints money, Capcom likes money, and because "everybody loves RE4!".

It looks like RE4 with slightly shinier, slightly more fluid gameplay, and a slightly more menacing tone.
Fine by me, and I am all the more for it. I don't hate the original RE4, but I do not have the patience anymore for it. Been that way for a long time. I know you are mad about CV not getting a remake, and is understandable, but this is Capcom. Nothing should be surprising at this point.

All that for $120 AUD (or $85 if my PC can run it via Steam).
That is so fucked up. I do not blame you on waiting for a deep, deep sale.

I suppose you could say that Marvin's death cut deep.

It's not a "Karen" haircut, nor a Justin Bieber haircut. If anything for the latter, it should be called the Leon Kennedy haircut. Because Leon was rocking that good shit before Bieber was even born.
I'm not saying Leon has a Bieber haircut. I'm saying the person on the right side of that thumbnail has the same hair as every stock photo of a woman on r/entitledpeople. Leon on the left still looks like Leon should.

It was just a bad angle for comparison. Most of the video makes it look fine, I'm just giving Capcom a hard time. Besides this is coming from me... who saw Hard Target when I was a kid and decided to go with for THIS as a hairstyle. Kind of glad sometimes I'm bald now.movies_ss_Ogwk_1487433841.jpg

The Bieber part wasn't directed at you, but at those who said Leon looked like Bieber back when RE2Remake was first revealed. A good amount of them weren't joking.

I never had anything against people with mullets, but I do know that hair style is hard to maintain. Second, Hard Target is still amazing, and Van Damme knew how to rock that hairstyle for one film!

Dude, have you played the original RE2? Guy basically was a Karen the whole game.
Yeah Leon was a lot of things in the first one, "likeable" wasn't one of them. He was an obnoxious, horny, wet-behind-the-ears idiot loser who stumbled his way to not being dead.
RE4 was for all intents and purposes a reboot of the character into a cocky, snarky, badass 80s horror movie hero with a cool jacket. And part of the charm was everyone else was an 80s horror villain. If Leon was Bruce Campbell, everyone else was clearly a Deadite.

So here's a thing that no one seems to be talking about; Ashley in-game

Escort mission feels like a relic from the past, and I hope she follows the trend of partner-AI actually being smart/helpful trend that many games seems to be following nowadays. I want her to be like Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite, Atreus from God of War, or Ellie in Last of Us. Make her actually useful. Don't need her to kill anything, but provide support during combat and not get captured every 5 min.

You can argue it lowers the stake in the game, but can you honestly say her calling "lEoN!!!" constantly is enjoyable? What about times when you are trying to fight a hoard of enemies and she gets in the way of the crossfire?

She doesn't though. Unless you actively make her wait Ashley's pretty much attached to your back, staying out of harm's way. And the only time she gets hurt is if you allow enemies to get close enough to hurt Leon. She's the one A.I. companion that feels mechanically efficient while still being vulnerable to enemies, unlike the ones today that are immune to anything that can kill the player.

I still don't like the constant calling of "LeON!" when it happens or goes on. You still have a point Shinji, but I like to see where the remake will improve unpon this.

The thing is, I don't think I've ever heard her calling like that except for that one time on the island where you hear her calling out over the security monitors. I mean, first time playing I was distraught when I realized I had to escort this girl around, but as soon as I aimed my gun and saw she would just hide behind my back I was like 'oh shit, that's brilliant; I can just keep her with me and pretty much play the game as if she wasn't even there'.

I think Ashley instilled players with a lot of anxiety by virtue of being an escort mission, causing them to treat her as they would every other escort mission at the time, i.e. leave her in a corner till you've dealt with all the threats. But it's exactly that kind of method that leaves her open to attacks and calling out 'LeON!!!'

I'm curious to how the remake will handle her, but I reckon they'll just go for the modern approach of making her invulnerable to most attacks and limiting the time she'll actually be with you. But who knows - I didn't expect Capcom to capture the item/threat management gameplay of the classic titles through modern gameplay aesthetics in RE2 Remake, but they did. Maybe they'll be able to do the same with Ashley in RE4 Remake.

I agree, her staying behind Leon did help. My problem was that with the game featuring tank control, whenever I wanted to aim behind me she'd still be there. Of course she ducked, but there were moments when the enemies were too close and I risked injuring her. I also remember trying to reposition with her, and I'd get either cornered or the enemies grab ashley while I try to run pass them. When she got captured, depending on how far she was away from me I could again risk injuring her. Those dumpsters did help, but they were only in the village section.

IDK, maybe I need to replay the game again, but she just didn't help too much during fights

To be fair, whatever (mechanical) issues I had with Ashley vaporized after the first couple of playthroughs, when I figured out the best choke points in each area. There's a lot of exploitative designs to the levels.

I think the one moment where Ashley is just the biggest fucking pain in the ass for me is during the two paths section right after the cabin sequence, where one path has a bunch of ganados, and the other has el Gigante. I typically do both paths for loot, and on el Gigante's one, as he drops down, Ashley will stop and point at the rock you can shoot down on him. HOWEVER, this pointing stance lasts a good couple of seconds, in which el Gigante is quickly stomping toward you and Ashley. But if you aim your gun in his direction during this time Ashley will automatically duck and stay in place right in his path AND right underneath the rock you can shoot down. But if you wait for Ashley to stop stupidly pointing and finally run back to you you risk the chance of el Gigante having already passed the rock. It's fucking frustrating, and in that one moment, yeah, Ashley deserves to be taken out back.

Couldn't you usually just have her hide in a dumpster or some other place relatively out of the way?

I'm here to post the 10 Commandments of Resident Evil 4.

1. It's awesome.
2. It doesn't need a remake.
3. If you're gonna remake it change as little as possible.
4. At its worst the game had some annoying QTE sections. Maybe rework those.
5. The inventory system is great.
6. The escort mechanism is great.
7. Keep Mercernaries/Separate Ways as unlockables, don't bin them as DLC.
8. Keep the rest of RE canon at arm's length.
9. Please don't nerf the knife.

2. It doesn't need a remake.
Too bad; Capcom decided years ago to remake the game.

At its worst the game had some annoying QTE sections. Maybe rework those.
Keep it to simple action commands when being grabbed or meleeing a stunned ganado.

8. Keep the rest of RE canon at arm's length.
Both versions acknowledged what happened in the PS1 trilogy, so little will change. Wesker will still be there in background plotting like usual. Ada is there too.

The escort mechanism is great.
Meh.
9. Please don't nerf the knife.
I guess you didn't see the you can repair and upgrade your knife menu at the merchant shop in the presentation.

3. If you're gonna remake it change as little as possible.
I welcome the change or doing something different. Blind nostalgia can be a big biatch.
7. Keep Mercernaries/Separate Ways as unlockables, don't bin them as DLC.
Agreed.

1. It's awesome.
It's good, but hasn't aged well with certain controls.

I swear those were only found in eariler village levels
There are dumpsters you can use in the section with the Bella sisters (midway through the village) and also at the island during the Regenerator section down the garbage chute. I don't remember if there are dumpsters in the castle area but the game will automatically bar Ashley from entering certain gauntlets (the lava bit) or you're generally allowed to do it yourself (the first fight with Garrador, the fight with the possessed armors).

Or dump them in a woodchipper, throw the woodchipper into a landfill, fire the landfill into the Sun and then drop the Sun into a dumpster.

(I didn't like the QTE sections all that much.)
Me neither, but I never felt it took any points away from the game.

I feel bad for you Aussies having to pay exorbitant prices like that for games, especially in a digital fucking marketplace like Steam. Are your Steam sales basically just regular price then too?
I think Steam's a bit more fair - there's the exchange rate to consider, but I don't think Steam is really overpriced, at least in my experience. But the thing is, I don't really use Steam that much, and most of what I have on Steam is stuff I've got for near-free off Humble Bundle. But I think the price difference of RE4 between Steam and physical says a lot.

The "regular price" here, on average, varies from $70 to $110 AUD. This is the first $120 AUD I've seen for anything, ever. But looking at some of the prices, there doesn't seem to be a clear link between content/production value and cost.

Every game after RE4 was based on RE4 gameplay. How could Capcom improve upon something the director ( Shinji Makima ) did after trashing the original canceled RE4 project? You know those screens similar to Chris in winter-wonder-land on the same footing as "Code Veronica". Speaking of Shinji Makima who shaved his hair and left Capcom after their decision to port RE4 to PS2 ( which is a joke AKA Load-screen during the truck scene and downgraded everything ).

I have RE4 on my PC and okay maybe they added more stuff to the game but it is silly. RE1 remake on the GCN was good enough.

Finally do I have to remind anybody of the transvestite known as RE3 Jill resembling to Tomb Raider de-make? WTF happen to Jill for RE3. Why not just match the girl on the cover and make that a thing. Why downgrade her as with unsweetened Boobless-raider. I guess rich girls can not be tanned or have bouncy curves. Like how Cisco's son was not big enough for that dopplegirl who married Quarks brother. At least it is not the hook-bill monstrosity known as as Aeris from the FF7 remake. You almost realize that it was justifiable for Seproth to kill his sister. Like Seproth did us all a favor. Now she is a spirit with after-life healing powers. Again "Advent Children" > "FF7 remake" when it comes to her.
