Everyone is dumb and wrong and Phoenixmgs is a brilliant genius again? Must be exhausting.
We should be thankful that he tarries for a moment(on way to monumental things) among us lesser folk to share pearls of his wisdom that we cannot appreciate.

The speed limit on that road is 55, but I was speeding doing 50?
You mentioned you usually do 5 over.
I actually have a video of me driving in the snow from last year because a guy at work thought I was bullshitting that you can do the normal 5 over that day, we got out early because of the snow storm that was just starting.
Isn't the issue stopping distance and the time required to react to stops in snow are vastly different to non-snow conditions?

Frostpunk is too unrealistically hopeful. It implies having any personal agency over our species' ability to overcome self-annihilation.
Hard disagree, it's perfect for the times. Most attempts at overcoming climate change/great filters will end up with many if not most dying just like how most attempts by many players end up failing in the game.

A good driver accepts that the roads are filled with drivers of various skill, experience and confidence.
A good driver accepts that those drivers staying within their comfort range during unusual conditions is safer for everyone.
A good driver understands and accepts that whether you've been in an accident on public roads is more about luck than skill, as most accidents happen in traffic.
A good driver accepts that while they may be confident in their skills, everyone around them is largely unpredictable and may be panicked by something you consider ordinary.

And most importantly, a good driver knows that mechanical skills learnt on a track or course have no bearing to real world traffic conditions.

Thanks for responding exactly as we all expected tho!
Driving is more about paying attention than anything, people don't pay attention is the problem (that's not some skill, it's just doing the work). Driving too slow causes traffic to bunch up, making it more dangerous. At least drive in the right lane if you wanna go slow.

I've been in an accident that totaled my car before, t-boned right on my driver's door, didn't get a scratch or anything because I saw it coming. I check every intersection, even side streets, when I'm driving so I don't get blindsided by anything (avoided at least 3 accidents due to that alone). I can control if I cause an accident, not if others hit me, and I'm fine with that. It's why I would never ride a motorcycle.

Driving doesn't require genius, just basic competence.

Usually and under normal conditions.

You keep more distance in snow, you can still you go a decent speed and maintain that extra distance. You just keep more distance in snow and take turns cautious (even just switching lanes too), that's about it. You do have to know how to get out of a slide too if that happens. Turning in snow is kinda fun, just let the backend slide out and it's less work than a normal turn.

but frostpunk is about building back up - hope is inherent - and the individual is the one transforming that into change. Whereas we are in the nosedive, and totally fucked. We're fucked! And can't do shit about it!

Oh, hang on, just noticed the calendar date. What I meant to say was MERRY RELIGIOUSMASS! šŸ¤³šŸ™šŸ¤žUhh, hope and peace and love and all that jazz! 😬🫣 may not have logged in sober to tonight

Frostpunk is not actually that difficult. As soon as you understand the rules, you will likely be able to keep everyone alive. There is a good chance going mostly healthy even through the first playthrough when you don't know what is to come and when. I would really be surprised to hear that most attempts by most players end in failure.

Well, that's convinced me you're a responsible and competent driver. Too lazy to turn properly!
"I'm a safe driver"
When turning on icy roads "Just let the back end slide out".

He has to be doing it on purpose. I just don't believe there's anybody really like this. Everyone has to have at least some self awareness.

You guys have never met people like this? It's not a tonal disconnect or lack of self awareness. In his mind, he knows when it's safe to do it on public roads, and if something does happen, he can control it so it's still safe.

Really straight up that simple in their minds. You guys must not know very many hoons.

Drifting is a valid driving strategy.

It's something I notice in myself - someone else drives faster around a corner or overtakes me unnecessarily so I think they're reckless and I'm sensible because I don't need to hurry and I'm demonstrating my superior strategy and appropriate care, then I do the same thing a different day and think everyone is amazed at my awesome control and technique.
Not sure if it's a "male brain" thing but driving is a weird psychological game sometimes.

I try to acknowledge other people driving well at least in my own mind. Cause like, the people you think are idiots probably are, but it takes more conscious effort to notice people being smart. The other day in the snow on a flat, straight road, the guy behind me was keeping pace at like 50mph, but when we approached the downhill part, he backed off a couple hundred feet, and I was appreciative of the mindful driving.

I don't think anyone has ever written home about how well someone else drove around a corner tbh.

But you see its all about applying engine power at the right moment so the weight transfer helps the car to accelerate and carry speed through the corner and clearly that it is a very manly skill that I'm awesome at and everyone notices and is amazed and impressed by it.

Never underestimate the lengths an inner narrative will go to to compensate for an otherwise allpervasive crushing sense of inferiority.
