It's pretty sad how old this trope is, and predates the era where video games could really depict it. This was in a mailer I got from a book club when I was a teenager.

There was a reason I titled this file "Hope It Don't Chafe".
This isn't perfect by any means, but this is better.

At least most of her is covered with pratical clothing. Unsure why her torso needs to be exposed though.

The boring one
Those swords, though. The twice the size of the character ones (and probably three times the mass). They're everywhere, Final Fantasy, Transistor, etc. They aren't even meant as jokes, are they.

You should see some of the swords in World of Warcraft.

Cloud in Final Fantasy 7 at least has the reason that he's a genetically modified supersoldier to swing around a sword that's as large and as heavy as he is. Everybody else just got one because Cloud had one. Like cyberpunk protagonists all being drug addicts.

It's not just a matter of strength, though. It's also a thing that nags me in superhero movies. There's the matter of center of gravity. You can be very very strong, but in order to not simply tip over when holding such a sword (or a van or whatever) diagonally, you'd have to be super heavy. Having very very strong, uh, fingers, and being able to hold on crazy thing is one thing. But your feet would also have to hold on something.

Same when some hulk or captain america breaks a gigantic projectile's momentum with their... sheer strength ? Even with the super-strength premise, I always expect some hilariously logical wile e. coyote outcome. 😬

(That said, I'm, again, not the best public for that. Design-wise I still can't get over batman's serious frown and cute little pointy ears.)

With Cap the reason given is not usually his strength but the Vibranium his shield is made of; its rules are elastic enough to do crazy shit with but there’s usually an upper limit.

With the Hulk? Well one if his most famous comic covers depicts him holding up what I’m pretty sure is the San Andreas fault. The sky is (not even) the limit with him.

Some Brit comics in the late 80s and early 90s used to have newly minted superhero try to do the things you'd see in DC and Marvel comics and getting hilariously violated by the laws of physics.

People like(d) to make fun of SFIII's weirder character designs, but I'll take any of those over Birdie's design in Street Fighter Alpha. His looks in SFV are a marginal improvement, but still not a fan. Even the weird characters in V still look or play bad-ass better than him.

Thank God, they fixed his face in VI and looks more like himself in III. I don't know what Capcom was thinking at the time.

Original character! Do not steal!

Well there's some new Halo Infinite helmet that's pretty much just a metal bra on the head.

I hate D.VA. Is this the best Blizzard could do to represent the people of my country? A fucking pro gamer and a streamer who turned into a fighter? Especially how she was designed to be an eye-candy bait that would no doubt generate a crap load of porn and deviant arts.
I don't hate D.Va that much since the mech is kinda half her design(some of her legendary skins are kinda nice too), but it's a pity how common the skintight anime plugsuit is. I feel like actual pilot suits with the helmet, breathing apparatus and whatever random dongles look pretty cool.

I remember a scene in Gundam Unicorn where the pilot suit inflated in response to it accelerating and it made me think that you could do a lot with the attire. I feel like there's plenty of design space that's rarely utilized when it comes to mech pilot suits.

That needs to go back to the Destiny B tier of equipment that no one uses without an ornament.

I don't know why they had to make him fat in SFV, though. It just felt like they needed another comic relief character after Rashid and Birdie drew the short straw.

This is what happens when someone with a bunch of gold and no talent designs a helmet. I feel like there should be some kind of charity to help these people.....not be that way.

This.

Also,

I hate this thing with a passion. Main reason I dropped Dust after an hour.
