I didn't know we were at LGBTQIA2S+ .

Listen, I have all my respect for L and for G and for B and for T and for Q and for I and for A and for 2S but can we find another terminology please ? The conservatives are absolutely right in finding this ever growing pile of initials ridiculously cumbersome. I know that saying "non-spanish" sounds negative, but it beats listing all the other countries (or, yes, even just their first letter).

Well, there's good reason why you need all those letter. Lots of gay rights advocated don't care about women, lots of gay and lesbian advocates don't think bisexuals exist, there's LGB groups that hate trans people etc. If you don't specifically get your name in the door, you risk getting thrown under the bus.

Just imagine how the US would have been different if "All men are created equal" included specific mention of black people.

Having said that, yeah, the acronym (or various versions of it) is getting long and confusing.

It's also a matter of time till we get real conflicts over a letter.

Heck, I already assumed the "Q" to stand for Queer (which I interpreted the same way as the "+", some nondescript "and gender/sexual minorities in general").

Depending on who you ask, it may or not not indeed stand for Queer. Likewise, when you have two "A"s, but sometimes only one, which one is it?

I always assume it's for "asexual". What's the alternative ? (Absent ? 🤩)

This is such an incredibly American thing to say. In England we all get roundabouts for our own houses. I have to do four loop the loops just to drop mail next door when it's delivered to the wrong house.
America is super behind on roundabouts to where some people don't know what to do with them when driving. A city by me, Crown Point Indiana, just put in 4 roundabouts in a row at a expressway on/off ramp section and one time coming home from the bar, this one guy was just stopped at the roundabout for like 30 seconds trying to sus out what to do and then did the same thing at the next one and I just blew by him because I caught up to him since he was sitting there forever. Carmel, Indiana has the most roundabouts than any city in the US (which I only know because I go there very occasionally for work). You'd think that the only way a small city could have more roundabouts than say Chicago or NYC or LA was that if it was a per capita stat but nope, it's just TOTAL roundabouts.

Kale, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, kohlrabi, collard greens, savoy and brussels sprouts all come from the same plant that's been bred to focus on different parts.

I'm a firm supporter of LGBTQIA2S+ stuff (which would make sense regarding my position in all of that). I just choose to say LGBTQ for simplicity. If anyone tries to get on my tits about it I'll tell them to shut up and deal.
If the acronym is gonna keep getting longer and more complicated then it's only gonna get more and more obnoxious to remember. Ain't nobody got time fo dat

Just when you thought the world couldn't get any weirder. . . . . SCIENCE!

Turns out, some viruses that humans caught millennia ago (which probably caused cancers at the time) had added their DNA into the human genome and now, our own immune system may be using that DNA to fight modern cancer cells.

For centuries Spain had a series of "Racial Purity Laws" which meant that if you had any Jewish or Muslim ancestry in your family tree you were fucked socially because....basically racism

Don't get me wrong, the US has a lot of racist baggage, but this feels like a lawful stupid evil level of shitty racism. Especially the fact that you couldn't join the army until like 1860 if you had 1 Jewish/Muslim Ancestor at any point in your family tree.

Like, Seriously, Spain, WTF?

I'd rather watch the horses realise they don't have to accept their fate, charge into the pavilions/stands and attack their owners.
That would certainly liven up the next Melbourne Cup.

Apparently there's some argument over whether that is the source of that term.
Its got the ring of plausibility to it, like lacking any other possible origin it would be perfectly acceptable to treat it as the birth of the phrase.

People used to play balls games against church walls in England, and there was one wall in Eton which had a bit of a staircase in front of it that was popular for playing games. So they copied the dimensions of the wall ad the bit of the staircase, and made replica courts all throughout England and then the rest of the world.

Here's one in Nigeria still in use today, with a replica of the end of the staircase on the left:
