I'm familiar enough with the "ambiguously brown" trope in animated media (Lucia from Devil May Cry, Yoruichi and Harribel from Bleach easily come to mind) but I don't understand how anyone could look at Tanya in any of her appearances and see anything other than a black woman. I at least understand the confusion with Jade given that how dark she was sort of varied in earlier games (and even then, Deception and onwards settled on black).Some people are just really that stupid and ignorant. As for Yourichi, most fans consider her black since a majority of her official art, Tite Kubo never lightens her skin color. Hell, even certain Japanese fans consider her black. Harribel, you have a big point, but I will give Tite Kubo credit for actually drawing black/dark-skinned characters as actual people and not as bad/racists/"comical" stereotypes. I know not every anime/manga drew blacks/African as stereotypes, but it was still a huge issue at the time (see Shaman King in its first run. Thankfully the English manga translations removed this and the artist later updated Choco's design to look like a normal person in the second anime adaption). Really progressive for the mid 2000s and now. Anime/manga like Jojo's Bizzare Adventure and Cowboy Bebop beat Bleach to punch years earlier of course, but the thought and execution still counts. Bleach would later get a character called Jackie Wilson, who is actually black. There is also that black swordsman with the braids, named Kaname Tosen. With anime/manga having a larger and wider global/Western demographic, most anime/manga creators have abandoned the make a black person "funny/racist stereotype" or straight up villain thankfully.

Speaking of Jade, I always assumed she'd be black since I was a kid. When MK: Annihilation came out, I asked "why is she Asian?". The actress did her part, and looks hot, but that did bother me at the time. By the time I realized how bad Annihilation was around 13 years old, the more I realized all black actresses dodged a big bullet there. I am grateful for that.
