I just don't get what this woman did that had so many video game fans treating her like the next Jack Thompson. Maybe she wasn't always accurate in her criticisms but she clearly acted in good faith and even acknowledged that pointing out problems in video games doesn't mean you were wrong for liking them.Ding dong, the witch is dead.

You know very well what she did- I mean it's called "feminist" frequency. To the "critics" including and especially those that literally threatened her life, feminism is the worst thought crime imaginable. The being wrong about specific video games or a point here and there is an excuse- the anger isn't about the video games, it's about feminism as a value. Her videos were good because while they talked about video games, it's more that it used games as a launching point to explain feminist observations about culture as a whole. And her "crime," to the denizens of the internet, is that it showed feminism is a set of logical, thoughtful and necessary ideas and no the caricature they like to joke about as an excuse to be sexist jagoffs.
You missed out on many of things. She's not the worst person in the world, but she never acted in good faith and is a schemer. Not to mention she plagiarized other people's video game clips without their permission and pretended that they were her own. While Jack Thompson is technically worse, she didn't help herself a lot. Also, a lot of her essays are ass, and she doesn't do her research the biggest example being her Powerpuff girls video and her Bayonetta video. What didn't help matters is that for a while back between 2014 and 2015, if anybody criticized her on Facebook or Twitter, regardless if it was just an opinion or an actual fact, those people would get fired. Yeah, that had gone on for a while. It was an over response to the people sending rape and death threats to her. I would never defend scum like that, and she doesn't deserve those threats, but when that happened everybody make sure to protect her even when she didn't need it. Or strike down disproportionate retribution for having an opinion without acting like an ass. All I can say is by the time of the late 2010s most of the younger gamers don't know who she was or didn't care so she was kind of already forgotten about, it's just that the super hardcore jackasses kept bringing it up when nobody cared anymore. It was when she got found out about where all that money went from her backers, that a lot of her backers/Patreon donors stopped supporting her. That's when things really came crashing down, and those that supported her saw her for what she was. All that money and your future videos look even crappier than you're older videos? Yeah, she's a schemer.
Bottom line she was just wrong about a lot of her points, and purposefully misleading with her research. Many of her claims were immediately debunked by gaming nerds everywhere and then she moved the goalpost to still be technically "correct".
You gotta include Gamergate in any such historical recounting. Its presence and effect cannot be understated.
I gotta be honest, I don't know what Gamergate actually was and at this point im too afraid to ask. lol.
It's basically what I partially implied. I'm just so sick of that dumb thing, that it's not even worth naming. I got sick of it when it was in its biggest height.
It's not what she did it's when she did it. The early 2010's on youtube were not friendly to leftists/feminists, and Sarkeesian getting just slightly elevated above the rest made her the biggest lightning rod. Looking back on it there was very little to her videos other than calling out the objectification of women in games, something that in this day and age is a completely normal thing to do, but back then and for it to be a woman... It was like giggling amongst a nation of pod people.
Mainstream media doesn't demonize gaming as a hobby. It criticizes the obsessive, entitled and bigoted attitudes that are all too common among video game fans (and they call out fans of other media as well. Arguably far moreso). Let's not forget when Trump tried to blame recent mass shootings on video games and was ridiculed for it by the media.
That is only because Trump was the bigger of the evils to them. Not because they actually believe it now.
