Reiko still looks like a Shao Kahn wannabe. Not convinced yet if he’d be any more fun to play either based on what’s been shown so far, but he was ok enough back then.
I'm surprised they even bothered to bring him back. Reiko always felt generic to me and was just kind of there.

I imagine someone like John Cena playing him in a future MK movie. Nothing against him, but so far he seems like he’ll be a grappler style character. Basically a replacement for Kano.

I rather just have Kano with a full move set, instead of an assist. I didn't like it when they replaced Kano with Jared. At one point it was supposed to be Kano in MK4, but decided just to make a new character who fights almost exactly like him; including the eye laser. I don't know why NR continues to do stuff like this. They're not the only ones guilty of doing this, but then the most obvious about it.

So I watched the full story of mortal Kombat 1. I honestly don't know how to feel about it. Most of it I can say definitively is solid even if there's some problems.

The main problem I have when it comes to the writing is when a new character shows up. They usually give blatant exposition that's clunky, and slows down the story.

I also like the fact that the major focus for much of the story is on more of the bit characters. Reptile and Baraka especially get some decent stuff in this story mode.

But overall it is somewhat of an engaging story, but then...

the big bad turns out to be Shang Tsung from a different timeline. (The bad ending of mortal Kombat 11 aftermath.) And then the plot consists of everyone working together and summoning alternate universe Titans of previous characters to stop Shang Tsung.

It's probably one of the biggest pivots I've ever seen in a video game plot. Granted, it doesn't come out of nowhere. I was able to guess who the main bad guy was going to be at the halfway point, it's decently foreshadowed. But the plot kind of goes bananas and I think the character stuff suffers.

The worst part is I can't tell if I like this pivot or not. It's dumb as hell but I think it may work, I'm still deciding on it.

I knew WB would pull some sort of live service bs, but hopefully it’s not any worse than before. In the Kombat Kast Reddit thread they talk about a new focus on “character mastery”, which sounds like a big improvement over the grind involved with unlocking a bunch of random stuff in past games via krypt.

I'm about 70% through the story now and I really really love this game. I love the reimaginings of character's origin stories and it's cool to see some characters take on new positions within the story. The villains are still just as great as they ever were, maybe even more so because you get a real sense of how different things could have been had things not gone wrong which is awesome.

The combat itself is really fun to and characters feel really easy to understand on some basic level. Though there are a couple that are more complex as well, it seems less on the level of execution required in Street Fighter. Most attacks and combos are less about jerky quick movements and inputs and more about stringing simple inputs together with good timing.

I've not messed around with the other modes yet but there are a good handful of characters I want to take into other modes and try to get good at for sure.

Been playing the other modes. Towers are just towers nothing really exciting there. But the invasion mode is awesome. It is like this MK version of the worlds in Mario 3, where you move across a board space by space and each space is some sort of encounter. Most of these encounters are 1 round fights but sometimes you might get a mini tower or a test your might challenge.

Each encounter offers rewards like cosmetics but there are also consumables that grant bonuses for one fight. Or a piece of equipable gesr to grant you extra things in battle. The mode also has a pseudo rpg system where you level up your fighter granting stats and stat points that can help you deal with fights.

Eventually the fights become obviously unfair where random shit will get thrown at you in the fights, or having to fight like 4 dudes at once without hp recovery.

There are secrets and things to find on the overboard maps too.

It is a great mode and a lot of fun while still functually being MK.

NetherRealm knew they had to step up their single player content after SFVI. I'll be either getting this, or Lies of P for my big bro's birthday next week. I plan getting it as soon as possible for him. MK1 will keep him busy.
