"Authentic Persian culture". In Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. You know, the game which featured a track from American rock band Godsmack and had absolutely no Persian actors voicing any of the characters.
That's just another on a list of things these idiots have no problem with despite claiming to care about historical accuracy (while hating black samurai and Japanese warrior women that existed):
* Fighting the Pope in Assassin's Creed II.
* Kratos being bald when real life Ancient Greek soldiers wore their hair long.
* Samurai challenging Mongol soldiers to one-on-one duels in Ghost of Tsushima.
* William Adams being Irish in Ni-Oh instead of English.
* Ivy Valentine's outfit in Soul Calibur.
And as far as straying from "a franchise's original vision", this guy conveniently ignores or doesn't remember that Warrior Within was ripped apart for straying so far from the series' tone when it first came out. Never mind that the creator of the Prince of Persia series endorsed The Lost Crown.
It's whatever fits the narrative for these ass hats and their echo chambers. Everyone already knows the real reason why the game failed. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with diversity nor DEI. Notice whenever something becomes a success or it's not a failure, though. All of a sudden, clam up or try to downplay and make some other pathetic excuse. Not to mention daily bother going after most indie games, because fans of those games will kick those guys asses.
- Overpriced. A game like that shouldn't have cost $50 at launch. Especially when you can find many metroidvanias on the cheaper side with indie titles. Strider 2014 was $30 at launch. Lost Crown should have been either that or $40 at the most.
- Not much advertisement. I'm not saying the game didn't get advertised, but they didn't do a whole lot to promote it. Ubisoft barely promoted that one Prince of Persia mobile game that is surprisingly good (?) and that didn't do well either.
- Crowded season. This relates to point number one, but there are a lot of games out around this time. Most of them brand new that were much cheaper or thirty dollars less than what was the starting price point. Then you had your bigger titles eating up attention as well.
- Ubisoft's unrealistic expectations. It explains itself and you already know the answer.
- The company does not know how to manage a lot of their shit now and if they die or get bought by Tencent, I literally could not care.

I remember when Warrior Within came out and people were clowning on it because of how terrible the character designs were, especially in comparison to Sands of Time.
