If anyone needs a new computer now, or expects to need one within the near future I suggest you start shopping this black friday. Once the Trump tariffs hit the cost of electronics are going to go up significantly.

I'm trying not to dwell on what happened because I know I can't do anything about the results, or what may become of it, and I'm trying hard to not stress out over things I can't control in order to focus on what I can.

I just want to say that as a pansexual who is still questioning my gender identity (I think demi-guy is the closest way to describing how I feel, but it's nothing concrete), the results concern me not just because of what might happen to legal status of being non-straight and potentially enby in some way, but the fact that so many people seem to at best not consider the loss of any legal status that this election results in a problem, and at worst seeing it as a bonus. "But what about Gaza?" you may ask. It's not that I don't care what happens over there, but two things. Firstly, I can't do anything about that. I can be upset about it, and try my best to get the government to listen, but there is no reason to expect that will change anything one iota other than my own peace of mind.

Secondly...there is absolutely no reason to believe that this result will change anything, based on what we know about Trump's thoughts on non-Americans. People say a vote for Kamala Harris was a vote promoting genocide...but why do we think that a vote for Trump promotes anything else?

Uh huh. This could have been a cordial conversation until you wanted to bludgeon it.
Absolute horseshit. There was no "bludgeoning"; just a pretty noncontroversial sentiment, similar to that expressed by a dozen other people on this forum. It was expressed perfectly cordially. And I already explained it was expressed in a moment of high emotion.

You then spent the following posts flinging insults.

Would've been naive to expect the smugness and hate to come exclusively from the triumphant right wing, I suppose!

It's not my fault you take up all the worst aspects of centrism.
Yes yes, any tactical conclusion different from the one you reached means you're scum.

Don't constantly make things about yourself in weird places.

Again, it's just you. And the tired chestnut of "purity tests", the centrist classic. The tool deployed to excuse the worst excesses of your preferred politics.

OK. Just concerned that the longer a particular thread goes on, the more likely it is to splinter off topic. I'm seeing posts about many things NOT what they think regard lessons learned that will help win a campaign. Why did relative novice Trump win with some 97% negative MSM coverage? Why did an incumbent with about 3 times as much money, a ton of celebrity endorsements, very woman-centric focus in an electorate of eligible voters that is some 52% women, 48% men, the MSM giving us about 97% positive coverage to her, lose?
We can put the myth to bed that the media was somehow out to get Trump. They went above and beyond to white wash his age and mental faculties while laser focusing on Biden's.

Its true that if you keep saying and doing negative things the media is forced to report that....but who's fault is that? The media can't positively spin Trump's words, but they can help him in other ways.

Ugh, I know. I wasn't planning on upgrading in the next year, maybe two, but maybe I should just do it now. But I don't have much set aside, and what I can get with that is not enough of an upgrade imo. I guess I'm just going to tough it out with what I have.

Worthless thing already made importing essentially unviable last time it pulled this crap.

Just grasping at staws here. Over here in Europe leaders aren't shaking in their boots for nothing over this. If Trump let's Putin run free, or worse helps him out, we here in the Netherlands certainly are fucked.
Trump pretty much pulled out of any sort of alliance with most of the Asia Pacific. China now has a firm grasp in the region

It's not just Russia... I'll note Russia now controls like 7 countries in Africa.

I find it hard to sympathize. The thing is that whether its proudly on the surface or deep down in their hearts of hearts everyone knew Trump was going to aid the rich and not help the poor. Its what corrupt businessmen do. Its how he consistently ruled last time, and one of the few policy ideas he managed to float this campaign were tariffs that were going to make everything more expensive.

People who voted for Trump ''because of the economy'' all knew this was going to happen.

On the other hand we had four years to prepare for the scenario of Trump returning and betraying us, and given the state of the Russian army the EU might win without American aid. Its just going to suck.

The US now practically being our enemy hopefully leads to European nations banding together more since that's the only way forward.

So, Musk says he intends to cut 2 trillion dollars from public expenditure, and Trump has endorsed that figure. So where do we think the axe will fall?

Presumably a chunk will be Education, because they've also said they want to abolish the department of education altogether.

We can assume that national defence will be safe (or increase).

No way will Social Security, Health & Medicare be unscathed.

Sigh Biden went and promised a smooth transfer of power. Why? Why even bother? And why haven't they learned anything from this loss. Being respectable earned you nothing.

Instead here what they should do, make it extremely clear that they plan on doing what Trump did with his fake elector scheme and have Kamala, as the vice president, declare herself president in January. And make it very clear that the GOP supreme court is okay with that, and that maybe they should change their judgement before that. The american public, who just mostly voted for Trump (or decided they weren't going to bother) are also okay with that. This is what they voted for.

Every time Trump does something that ruin people live, the democrat need to come out and have one that one message "this is what you voted for"

Trump make it legal for mining company to dump toxic sludge in river? Cool, grab truckfull of that stuff and dumb it in a river of a county that heavily voted Trump and go see the people and tell them to their face "this is what you voted for".

Cop are now above the law? Cool, bride them to harass people in Trump counties.

Tariff made inflation explode? I wanna see Biden and Harris in a Walmart going "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?".

Trump let Bibi annex the gaza and push all the palestinian into the sea? Cool buy a plot of land and put all the picture of those "never voting for democrat because of genocide" people there.

The public need to be reminded that their vote (or apathy) as consequences, and that the way things are looking, the dem won't always be around to clean up the mess.

Prices will go up because companies affected by the tariffs will have to raise prices, and companies unaffected by the tariffs will also raise prices to profit. Prices will go up even more because Trump's mass deportations will remove the cheap labor American businesses have been enjoying, and legal citizens won't even remotely tolerate the same poor pay and conditions.

My prediction: Trump's administration (and Tstorm) will blame trans people, pronouns and feminism.

Or, more realistically, Trump will forcibly conscript welfare recipients to take the jobs under the same pay and conditions. And to enable it, he'll suspend the 13th Amendment- all for "more money in Americans' pockets", of course....

For reference, Milei axed the following ministries/government departments when he took over Argentina a year ago:

  • Department for Science, Innovation and Technology
  • Department for Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Tourism/Sports
  • Ministry of Public Works
  • Ministry of Education
  • Ministry of Culture
  • Ministry of Transport
  • Ministry of Work, Employment and Social Security
  • Ministry of Social Development
  • Ministry of Justice and Human Rights
  • Ministry of Women, Gender and Diversity

All of them were "absorbed" or made redundant by Home Office or Infrastructure or some new thing called Ministry of Human Capital.

Here comes Captain Hindsight and the Blame Games.
Is it Captain Hindsight though? Cause people like myself and Crimson and hundreds of thousands of "Uncommitted" votes have been warning Democrats this entire time...

The Democrats told us that we were unimportant and not worth listening to as they courted Republicans that didn't want to vote for Republicans instead. But this wasn't shocking to many of us who paid at least a little bit of attention these past few months...

Democrats can dismiss our warnings as "the blame game" now but if the Democrats don't figure this shit out, we're gonna see the same thing happen in 2028.

When none of that happens, will you ever admit it?
