Might check it out. There's, like, a dozen of Hellraiser movies and I'm not gonna watch every single one but I'd be ready to give that one a chance.
The second one is about as good as the first, but it at least has some more interesting hell dimension shit going on.

I've watched them all. Other than maybe the second and the reboot, you aren't missing much if anything.

Roger Ebert on Hellraiser II.

"Kirsty!" we hear. And "Tiffany!" And "Kirsty!!!" and "Tiffany!!!" And "Kirstiyyyyyyy!!!!!" And "Tiffanyyyyyyy!!!!!" I'm afraid this is another one of those movies that violates the First Rule of Repetition of Names, which states that when the same names are repeated in a movie more than four times a minute for more than three minutes in a row, the audience breaks out into sarcastic laughter, and some of the ruder members are likely to start shouting "Kirsty!" and "Tiffany!" at the screen.
That sequence and the "I hesitated" quote are the only two things I remember about Hellraiser II.

Also there was a filthy fucking mattress somewhere in there.

Also, Lieutenant Gorman from Aliens is in it. He gets unceremoniously got by Bandage Lady I think.

The Karate Kid Part II

Felt like a quickly written cash-in after the first one did gangbusters. What do you do for the sequel? I dunno, they go to Japan... and then they do the same shit all over again. Daniel gets bullied, courts a purdy lil thang, learns a new way to land a punch, etc.

Rocky II it ain't. See I'm not saying that wasn't a cash-in too, but Stallone made a sequel that was precisely about cashing in - the story is about Rocky learning to contend with his newfound fame, and how people always want more, and then you're damned if you cave and damned if you don't. It felt like a natural continuation of the story. Everything that happens in it jumps off something that happened in the first one. He buys a house, marries Adrian, aborts his first child, his relationship with Paulie, Mickey and Apollo changes, etc.

Conversely, Daniel's story has nowhere to go in the sequel. The movie literally has to fly him around the world in order to give the story a sense of progression, even though his relationship with Miyagi is done evolving and the rest is just recycled shtick.

Also, the bad guys in this are astoundingly, horribly written. "I learned hatred is wrong" level of writing redemption. That's a line in this! And then all the bullying and terrorizing and bulldozing a small village is forgiven.

Prey

This was very different from the previous Predator films, but then given how awful The Predator was, that can only be a good thing. The Predator in this one was pretty rubbish, I thought, having to go invisible to fight a wolf or coyote (not sure) a third its size, walking straight into an ambush without noticing several dozen people in wait, and then running away from trappers armed with muskets. Sure, bits of that in the previous films, because it was playing with people armed with machine guns. Also, apparently, when someone might be able to shoot it with an arrow, it better use it's own fancy weapons, instead of fighting hand to hand. And it dies after it shoots itself in the head.

OTOH, though, the Predator wasn't in it much, and everything else was very well done, good use of scenery, and some actual hunting going on.

(That string she ties around her axe must be pretty strong to hold the weight it does, and using it to fling an axe back at yourself is sorta dangerous. The medicine that chills the blood to the extent you become invisible to infra red...yeah, no, that'd kill you, and you'd look like a cold object. When the Predator walks straight at her and she steps out of its way, should have seen her move. Also, it can see spear tips and muskets...so, don't buy that.

Still, good film, unusual to keep a franchise going to long without it falling apart.

Dark Angel: The Ascent

Known about this film for ages, seen bits of it, not seen the whole thing till now.

A young demoness gets fed up with living in hell, so she ascends to Earth and ends up in a city full of violent crime, dodgy cops, and a corrupt mayor. She goes on a vigilante murder spree, and learns about love from a human doctor.

This shouldn't have been so boring. You could do a lot with that premise, but the film did not.

I don't wanna brag but I'm in my 30s and somehow got 5 other people in their 30s to go to the movies as a group. This is some year one uni shit. We're even playing board games aft. This is an automatic pass for Gladiator: Folie a Deux.

The Gentlemen, 7/10

This is a 2019 Guy Ritchie gangster flick. If you've seen any of his best known work, you know the drill: thick accents, ensemble cast, a somewhat suspectly glamorizing view of british gangsters, and a splintered story structure. It's pretty good. The story's nothing special, but the cast is doing a lot of heavy lifting with the likes of Matthew MacConaughey, Colin Farrell and Charlie Hunnam giving all nice performances. Hugh Grant serves as the sort of narrator, and he's always a delight when playing a slimebag. It's pure Guy Ritchie through and through, so your enjoyment will depend entirely on whether you enjoy his style of dialogue. I enjoy it well enough, but it does at times feel like it's trying too hard to seem cool and slick. There's also some bordering on ass-pull storytelling towards the end, but it doesn't break the film or anything.

Overall a decent romp. Some snappy dialogue, some nice twists, in one ear and out the other. A perfect popcorn movie.

Terminator UHD is out now, I guess. Look at her. Did the nukes fire after all and she is irradiated?

This little girl too. What a nightmare this movie now is. A real horror movie.

Maybe post images that aren’t compression optimised for a GeoCities website in 1999 to make a point about visual fidelity or lack thereof next time.

You can't see the real detail of an HDR image in a screenshot anyway. But you can still see that AI has ruined the image. James Cameron hates the look of film.

Well, he ruined Avatar 1 with this freakish tech too, so it's not even just that he hates the look of film. He likes his terrible upscales. He officially has the worst UHD catalog of any director.

The Director's Guild rules need to changed.

Here are just a couple more examples of the AI shit:

Is that Thai writing or what?

It's also fakeDR, because it isn't a newly done transfer, and peaks at around 160 nits:

No doubt the colour gamut is also similarly squashed, with virtually nothing outside of Rec 709 being utilised.
