Name 3 aaa games from the last 5 years that don't deserve 7 or better.
All the CoDs and concord. Hell add the new Dragon Age in there too for good measure. Oh and I'd mention sea of thieves but that's a AAAA game apparently...pfff..these people are jokes and losers.

Can't tell if sarcasm or not. This is what critical has done to me.

Marvel's Avengers, Suicide Squad, Concord.

But two of those three got less than 7 from IGN.

I don't think this is anything to do with "access". They'd have access anyway. It's just an effect of media standardisation, innocent (if frustrating). I'm a member of a casual, nonprofessional media-reviewing club, and scores are constantly averaging out to 7s, even when individual scores aren't thereabouts.

One thing I always have to ask is that if someone thinks a game score should be based just on the game, or should other games be taken into account. Like almost any COD game individually would be pretty awesome, they are bombastic campaigns that feel good to play, but they also come out every single year. Should series fatigue play a roll in a score?

Then you are lost in the sauce.
Nah I just don't like most shooters. I mainly play ones with a heavy emphasis on story or with heavy rpg focus like the bethesda fallouts.

A failure to bring something new to the table is a valid thing to take into account in a creative medium, IMO.

But everyone has their own metrics. Which is why it's a bit silly to rag on people for scoring you don't agree with.

Then you are not the right kind of person to be ranking them. Just like I wouldn't rank sports games since I don't really like them. Just like I wouldn't rank the Bethesda Fallout games as FPS games since I don't really like them.

Ugh, I always make the mistake of asking and then having to look up what these games got. Most of what you listed got less then 7, which I also should have specified as them getting over 7. Also, you cannot call COD games bad, they are over exposed as hell but each one individually is fun (probably, haven't played since WW2, hated the plot enough to not finish it, but the gameplay felt fantastic. The only one thats gameplay didn't feel good was Ghost)

Is it? Doesn't that go into an extremely subjective area of when is something different enough to be new? Should points be taken off of Doom since it wasn't different enough from Wolfenstein 3d?

Sure I am, I did enjoy the recent Doom games, those were fun, but I literally only played the campaign. But CoD is slop and concord is trash, most games of the hero shooter genre fail at even being as fun as team fortress 2. I am a versed gamer in all genres to an adequate degree despite having favorites. I just tend to dislike most shooters probably because of that.

The kinds of MP-focused shooters I tend to like end up being the more obscure fun ones like Titanfall 2. My ideal shooter is something in the vein of quake 3, fast and unrealistic and fun.

Just this year alone, let alone the last 5 and not counting the obvious shit like Madden which is buggier and more broken year after year lately.

Metacritics for those games

Star Wars Outlaws: 75 average critically, 5.3 average user
Suicide Squad: 60 critics, 3.4 user
Foamstars: 57 critics, 6.8 users
Skull and Bones: 59 critics, 3.3 users
Concord: 62 critics, 1.9 users
South Park Snow Day: 59 critics, 4.4 users
Hellblade 2: 81 critics, 7.4 users

So, out of those games that you felt didn't deserve 7 or higher...only 2 of them actually averaged 7 or higher, and one of those was higher than 7 with both critics and users, which suggests that even among gamers, they felt it deserved 7 or higher. I'm not saying you are wrong, mind you. That's the thing about opinions, they can't be right or wrong. But you can't say that gaming critics are giving games undeserved 7/10's when...it seems like the games that you feel don't deserve 7/10s are not getting them for the most part.

Adding to this, Hellblade isn't even a AAA game. It's made by a team of 20 devs. It shouldn't be on a list of AAA games that don't deserve their high ratings.

Games journalists seemed to be fooled by production value. They tend to rate games that are well marketed, visually impressive, and novel at the time as an automatic 9 or 10. The biggest one that comes to mind is GTA IV, where the first sandbox city with 7th gen graphics automatically gets a perfect score.

Then they also don't rate niche games or cult classics that well. Certainly that's to be expected by the definition alone, but the point is it's not story and/or gameplay alone that makes an amazing game. It's story and/or gameplay + massive hype. Somehow games with amazing stories or complex gameplay with thousands of hours of playtime gets beaten by another forgettable CoD campaign.

Then there's games that are expected to get at least a 9, sometimes referred to as the Nintendo or Sony bonus. There seems to be some kind of herd mentality thing going on, where critics know the expectation and unconsciously go for the correct and respectable opinion.

All this thread does is make me respect why Yahtzee refuses to give grades to games. This idea that any game "should" get any number based on some pretend-objective criteria is peak internet stupid. Whether that's Alannah Pierce or u/CriticalGaming giving half a care to number scores... I just don't get it.

I mean this is it right here. And this is Alanah's whole real justification. More production value, more complex, therefore can't be below a 7.

That's wasn't the request. The request was to name 3 AAA games in the last 5 years that do not deserve a 7/10 minimum. So i made a list, and I didn't even have to leave this year.

There are many other examples I could pull if I wanted to look through 5 years of AAA games. There is a reason why the 7/10 has become a meme across the internet.
