Not trying to rag on you nor correct you, but when ou say it like this:

Even after you explain yourself, most are gonna assume that's another language for bad.

Oh yeah I never said you said it was bad, I just don't understand your criticism unless it's coming from a point where you just don't enjoy games with action gameplay that you play repeatedly to get better at them so you can win in more stylish, unique, extravagant or original ways. Like to me it sounded as though you didn't really care to learn how the system works and just wanted to "get through" the game like it was a walking sim or something and not one of the coolest action rpgs out there.
Fair enough.

Ok I'll clarify how I feel- I do like action games where you gotta mess around with stuff to either move forward or win in different ways. But.. up to a point.
So with FF7 games I did learn how the system works. But I didn't learn enough of the materia minutiae to do some of the optional stuff. And it ran up against other parts of the game's limitations like the open world design and how the actual mechanics were too simple to capture the possibilities of the many materia possibilities. So after a point, I would mess around with the materia in menus and then the reward would still be chipping away at health bars with respawning enemies while I'm trying to find a waypoint on a map that doesn't make sense.
So I just got to the point where wandering around, experimenting and exploring stopped being really fun.

If I have one issue right now it's more about long games in general and yeah I do just wanna "get through" a game (currently experiencing it with Veilguard).

Dunno if any of that makes sense.

I have my problems with overly long games too, but you can skip most of the side quests fine in Rebirth at least. Square has more than admitted that they wanted to expand the scope as much as possible. How effective that is going to depend on person to person, but most people like the bigger scope fine. Especially people like Max. At this point, I just recommend you just go for shorter games and be done with it. Get on Shadows of the Damned as soon as you finish. You'll get you fine trimmed 6-8 hours.

@CriticalGaming and @Old_Hunter_77 .

Pat likes the game overall.
  • He considers it an eight out of ten game.
  • Easily the best running Bioware game on PC. He had no problems nor game breaking glitches running the game on his PC.
  • The game with the best game play.
  • The dialogue he didn't find that bad, and he considers this a west coast game develop by west coast developers. The only time the dialogue becomes bad is if they're just clip posted on twitter without context. He does admit that there are some minor goofy or cringe lines, but nothing really bad, unless you like exaggerating something.
  • He does like characters more in the older games or Mass Effect, but he doesn't hate the newer ones here.

I never liked Pat before and seeing that summary doesn't change my mind.

If this game is an 8/10 then what is the Witcher 3 a 100/10? What's BG 3 8000/10?

Dragonage is a game that functions and that is about all i can say about it possitively.

I wasn't trying to convince you nor change your mind. Just showing you another perspective. Pat I have my problems with and has some really crappy takes. Pretty much all his Sonic opinions are just crappy hot takes where he's jumping the band wagon.

Just so we're clear: He does consider both of those games much better. He likes this game, so there's really not much to do, since he actually enjoyed it.

Get rid of all the e-drama and internet drama, and the game seems to be doing fine sales wise anyway. Official reports still have not come out, other than a high steam player count they seem to be satisfied with. I never had a stake in this franchise, but if people are loving the game just fine on a casual level, then not much else needs to be said. There are people who like the game and people who don't, but the ones usually starting the drama are disliking it for the wrong reasons or just for the sake of rage click bait and the grift.

You have your reasons, so that's okay with me, but I feel that some of the flaws in this game are highly exaggerated from what I've seen on Youtube. That is all.

Yeah it makes sense man, it just sounds to me like you're not having fun, which yeah would make you stop experimenting. I'd suggest taking a big ass break from the genre entirely and playing something that plays way different, like a war sim or something. Ever tried Unicorn Overlord?

My mentality is always that a game will never feel too long as long as you're having fun. I put 120 hours into Metaphor and it felt short to me. So if you ever find yourself wishing to be over with a game just to kinda check it off your list, like a sort of responsibility you feel or something, you definitely wanna stop right away and take a big break cause this is not supposed to be a job or something you do out of a sense of duty.

Haha yeah I never cared about trophies. The only ones I actually pursued intentionally were the ffxiii ones on ps3 cause they unlocked unique wallpapers. I already do completionist runs on the hardest difficulty with 100% of my undivided attention so I just am satisfied with whatever trophies such an approach organically unlocks.

Re: the Castle Beast guys and 8/10 vs whatever...

Here's the correct opinion on this game: calling it a shit game is a valid opinion. It's also an 8/10. Given the context of this franchise and the direction of the game, both opinions make a lot of sense. Not just because every opinion is just an opinion and all that hand-waving nonsense, but this game in particular has basically three or four different audiences that will come at it from different angles.

Life is way less stressful when you stop caring about those things. Pretty sure you have the ones you cared about anyways. Maybe only Plat games you actually enjoy?

Keeping a perfect completion rate sounds insane to me. Wouldn’t have had the time for it even when I had zero obligations besides work, sleep, and sustenance.

Shit game? Underwhelming and average under most circumstances, but not something I would call actual shit. There are plenty of games worse than Vandguard. I forgot, are you enjoying the game or still going through and have not made a full opinion yet?

The change of tone has been much bemoaned(also by me) but I think its Bioware adjusting its writing with the times. Dragon Age 1 and 2 where grimdark in an age where grimdark was at its peak. But now we live in an age where lightheartedness, quips and a lack of sincerity reign supreme, and its likely the change in writing was done to adjust to this market expectation.

Of course one can argue that changing a series identity just to chase trends is wrong, and I'd agree. Also I think they are a few years too late, because we're now in an age where this sort of tone is on the way out

I'm almost done and will finish this evening.

I'm enjoying it I just understand the perspective of someone for whom the writing weaknesses are more glaring while I'm able to just go along with it. It's basically Forspoken + recent Assassin's Creed, games where if you're done for some casual adventuring without taxing your brain is all you're looking for than it's fine but if you're a Dragon Age/Mass Effect fan who loves the lore and older characters OR you were hoping for a deeper combat system than yes, it's shit.

Hence- expectations = result.

I was in the mood for something like this and I had Steam credits I used so it worked out for me but I'm absolutely ready to be done with it.

Rolled credits.

Was annoyed that I didn't fully level up my character and all the areas despite doing everything I could find in terms of side quests but I came close enough that everyone was wearing shiny gold armour and said a lot of nice things about my character.
I did read that the ending of the game is strong and, yeah, it is.
