I tire of combat systems in which the enemies, a whole bunch of them, levitate and dash all over the place, zigzag all around you. That's the only reason the automatic turning of the main character is required in almost every single action game, why counters are omnidirectional and why hooking towards the enemy (Nero in Devil May Cry 4, Hi-Fi Rush) becomes ever more common. Because they're not willing to make a combat system that's more... I don't know if grounded is the right word. I'm getting too old for these hectic games, these hyperactive enemies. I don't wanna look in five directions. Let me mostly deal with one or two (maybe three) who move around the space realistically, with the option to get away from or keep others from joining in. Environments are not even being utilized. Action games in particular let you interact with almost nothing. (Everything or Nothing did somewhat, although it was mostly just switches.) Designers only care about the combos. Meh. What makes it lamer is that, in order to achieve this, the enemies have to stand around more, waiting their turns.

Sounds like a you problem. It's called get good and learn how to keep enemies off camera to make them less aggressive. People are here for the combos and combat. You already knew this going in, so don't blame it on the developers.

Then play Urban Reign on PS2, or bust out an emulator. I warn you that the game is very difficult. Or play MadWorld, which is much easier on Normal. Hard is different story. Either that, or go back to the Arkham sgames

You know that's a damn lie. There's plenty that lets you interact. You either haven't played enough or have a very bad memory.
  • Bayonetta franchise
  • MadWorld
  • Anarchy Reigns - Not as much compared to its spiritual prequel, though.
  • Devil May Cry 3
  • DmC (2013)
  • Streets of Rage 4
  • Double Dragon Gaiden
  • God Hand
  • Double Dragon Revive when it releases later this year.
  • Bujingai: The Forsaken City
  • All of the Sony Spider Man games. I don't care how much you dislike them. They still count.
  • Viewtiful Joe
  • Vanquish
  • God Hand
  • River City Girls 1 & 2
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Yakuza/Like a Dragon
  • Judgement & Lost Judgement
  • Severed Steel
  • SIFU
  • En Garde
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake
  • Doom 4 & Doom Eternal
  • Shadow Warrior 3
  • GoW franchise
  • Wolverine Uncaged Edition

Astro Bot is a better game than Mario Odyssey. This is not a mark against Odyssey, but find Astro more enjoyable. Both are great 3D platfomers that excel at what they achieved.

There's a major controversy in PC gaming right now with the upcoming release of Nvidia's 5000 series graphics cards that they are so reliant on DLSS that what they're selling you isn't hardware it's AI generated fake frames.

To me the problem isn't so much "fake frames" but the fact that they're artificially limiting the capability of the 4000 series cards to make them look significantly worse than the 5000 series by locking dlss 4 to 5000 series cards.

The reality is that the 5000 series cards are not significantly enough better than the 4000 series to be considered a new generation of cards. Their performance is similar to when Ti cards come out in the middle of a generation with a performance boost to the same architecture. The main performance boost here is software enabled, and this same software could and SHOULD be available on the 4000 series cards, but isn't because very few people would bother with this generation of cards if they were being compared to the 4000 series straight up.

Both God of War '18 and Breath of the Wild may have done more harm than good to their respective franchise. And I say this really liking both games, but I also can't ignore the feeling of sadness and exhaustion when thinking on where they took the franchise. This especially came to light with the sequels - Ragnarok and Tears of the Kingdom are kinda the same game as the previous entries, but all of a sudden I kinda lowkey hate what these games are. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with GoW'18 and BotW, but when I think to replaying GoW1 and 2 or Wind Waker and (god help me even) Twilight Princess I just have so much more excitement for them than I do for the newer ones.

You could argue this might be me simply yearning for a simpler time, and... yeah, I think I am.

Exactly. Both of these franchise will survive great and go into other directions again. Welcome to change, and I have zero issues with either. Even though I don't care BotW nor ToK. I like the Age of Calamity spin-off. I am not going to be a worry wart of what comes next for God of War. I am not like those fools who cry about not having Greek Era GoW, who rag on and insult anybody for liking the Norse games (I'm not lumping them with you), when they already got so many games in that style. Actual God of War, or not.

Super Mario Sunshine is not, by a long shot, the best 'main' Mario game. I wouldn't even give it as much as 'good', at least not compared to its series. It's decent for the most part, but it's held back by control issues (mostly related to taking away half of your controls every few levels), occasional poor level design, really badly designed progression, and the culmination of all of those things: 'Secret of the Village Underside', otherwise known as 'I'm a chuckster!', otherwise known as the point where I just completely gave up on ever finishing the game.

That's not even the worst stage. I thought that one where you need to ride the yoshi over the boats for 5 minutes before you can even attempt it was way worse.

It's not the worst stage in the game (for my money that's driving the lily pad over the poison lake), but it is the worst stage that's mandatory.

Damn…just remembered Mario Sunshine is the last main entry I’ve played through. Galaxy gave me a headache, literally. Felt like being on a 360 degree merry-go-round as an adult.

Do you have multiple sclerosis by any chance? That's one of way it would do it, though I doubt you have that and it's probably something way less severe.

I find Sunshine the worst 3D Mario game. I beat it once, and never again. Traded the game in 3 years ago fro the GC version of Resident Evil 2

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury
is the best fighting game on GameCube, and I find it better Smash Bros. Melee, Soul Calibur III, and Tekken 5.

Not sure what that disease does for something like this but all that spinning of the world and it being very small messed with my equilibrium or something. My head started hurting both times I tried playing it and it makes me think of how adults can’t handle spinning things the way kids can.

Good news, it's not MS then. I think it's one of those cases of either your eyes being sensitive or one of those changes the eyes or brain can't handle when looking at the screen. I can still play Galaxy find, but there are some games that either mess with my eyes or some dumb graphical effect. The second bonus stage in Metamorphic Force I can barely play, because the screen scrolls too fast for me to barely react. A lot 3DS games I can't play with the 3D on. Though it's usually the ones that throw it in as an after though.

I have a lot of trouble with trying to see what the hell's going on in Super Smash Bros Melee. It's not strictly a function of the ridiculous bugs that are the foundation of serious play either, even just in "normal" gameplay it's incomprehensible to me. And I don't have that issue with any other SSB, just Melee. Dunno why. Something about the art style I guess?
