Opened Elden Ring for the first time since July. Tried fighting Leonine Misbegotten again. Deleting it. I want a refund, but am 12 hours in with no progress anywhere, only the "Roundtable Hold" achievement unlocked. I hate all of you who enabled FromSoftware until they got to this point. Made such good games once. Not only do they suck now, but they've dragged a large part of the industry down with them.
I don't usually do this but since you insist on claiming bad game design. SKILL ISSUE!

Clearly. It's not made for the normal RPG player anymore who made the studio popular. Made for twitchier people with an eye for weird attack animations (gimmick forced by refusal to change the controls in a meaningful way). I wonder how many fans have been lost and replaced.

So in other words: it's you sucking at the game. Good to know.

Massive control overhauls should (and usually do) only occur when a sequel goes through a radical change in direction, such as the Great 3D Leap or Breath of the Wild. And radical changes in direction are a risk at the best of times, which you of all people as a Tomb Raider fan should know. Changing controls just for its own sake without changing anything else is just going to alienate everybody for no good reason, and cause as many if not more "lost and replaced" fans as you're speculating on for Elden Ring now.

Besides, it's not like fake-out attack animations haven't been a thing in From Software's (or perhaps more specifically Hidetaka Miyazaki's) games for a long time. And I still beat all of them I've played (except Elden Ring, so far), so it's not like it's impossible to deal with. Learning the timing and spacing on a weird animation's not that different than for a regular one once the shock wears off.

Seem to recall Ezekiel complaining about FROM games since at least Bloodborne, so the disappointment is not too surprising. Elden Ring is nothing more than the latest iteration of the half dozen games that preceded it. If it only contained the highly telegraphed enemies of Demon’s Souls and the first couple DS games, most people would stroll right through it. Most of the twitchier stuff is reserved for demigods and a handful of field enemies. More than ever before with their games it can be as easy or difficult as the player decides, but it takes more time exploring (or wiki’ing) to find those modifiers. Parrying still dominates the high end of the skill ceiling, but given what’s on YouTube it’s still completely learnable.

Apparently the new Kingdom Come game is a “true RPG” and probably devoid of twitch combat like the first one. That doesn’t automatically make it better or more fun though either.

Finally finished my second playthrough of Persona 5 Royal. I got the true ending and holy shit, game is still fucken fantastic. It has such great characters and a really good plot and I got so many cool personas. I already beat strikers, I'll probably start Persona 5 tactica soon.

Tomb Raider is a series. FromSoftware's different IPs are not, but they still treated them like one, which is why there are now so many complaints about fatigue. They could have changed some things in Tomb Raider. Problem is that the new owners forgot the spirit of the games or don't respect it.

I should have recorded myself fighting him and deleting the game, so that I could edit it together with footage of all my time and achievements in the previous games and get ratio'd. Called it "Goodbye, FromSoftware" or something like that.

You do realize you can also use a shield? They are more viable in Elden Ring then most other fromsoft games.

Interesting that a giant open word game which outsold the entire Dark Souls franchise still has a 42% higher completion rate at the narrowest margin.

The sequels are quite a bit lower but I personally didn’t bother with them either due to all the grinding.

Rejecting feminine clothing in order to appease modern feminists doesn't give you that many ways to dress up characters. The two women on your team in Hi-Fi Rush are dressed too similarly.
Ah yes, daisy dukes, stockings and crop tops, those famously un-feminine articles of clothing. I see rugged dudes wearing them all the time. What on earth are you on, dude?

I'm very close to finishing a second playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3 and, after freeing it from the underwater prison, it suddenly hit me that Omeluum could've solved the whole problem at the end with needing an ilithid mind (or Gale's nuke) to take on the Elder Brain.

With every new game featuring female characters even more eggshells are added.

What feminine clothing did you have in mind to make the characters look less similar? The characters look like the same base body which has been tweaked slightly and then added a bunch of paraphernalia, which ends up looking similar (like how Donald Duck's extended ensemble is designed) but I don't think feminine clothing would make much of a difference; that would just be different paraphernalia.

While both have similar body types, Korsica Is the tallest woman out of the group. Also, they're default costumes are different enough from each other before and after you fight Korsica. Then there's Memosa and Rekka. Both are female, but both with widely different body types and outfits.

Now that Corsica has joined the team, Hi-Fi Rush has the Devil May Cry 4 problem, where switching weapons (characters) with L2 is no longer a toggle, but a cycle, requiring more mental energy and attention paid to the HUD.

Sounds like you sucking at the game and not knowing how to switch/switch cancel properly. There are chips you can upgrade to shorten cool downs even further.

That doesn't have anything to do with what I said, but I don't customize the chips at all. Remember being so exasperated when I learned that the game has an upgrade system with perks. I've spent most of the currency on upgrades to the HUD elements. Would prefer going back to simpler design where you play with the same abilities through the whole game, like in Streets of Rage. Like that about old Tomb Raider as well. They all want to make the same games.

June 12th:

"Sighed and kind of thew my hands when I got to the upgrade screen. All the same, always the same."

Just partly dislodged my R2 button as I got fed up with the enemies zig-zagging all over while the cam doesn't pull back. Opened it, set the button again, but it doesn't feel as nice anymore. RetroFighters Defender.

Started playing the system shock remake. They did a great job, but the game really suffer from what came after it. Exploration is limited because there's just not much stuff to actually find. you kill a bunch of enemy and find a secret area, only for it to yield a few ammo and maybe a med kit, barely covering the cost of getting there in the first place. Respawning enemy is also quite annoying since its not a challenge or anything, its just constant annoyance. Say I find a message with a code for a door I previously pass, now I gotta trek back trough a bunch of enemy, open the menu and find the right message while dodging more respawn, just to open and door and find... a couple of ammo and a medkit, once again barely covering the cost of getting there. Resource are functionally infinite, so you can just avoid using anything by constantly treking back to med station and power bay, but again that involves a bunch of respawn.

Mostly it makes me excited for a good remake of system shok 2 and deus ex. Maybe I'll pop prey back in for like a fifth playtrough.
