The point I'm trying to make in my previous post is, we shouldn't hold that against him. He tried to play the game; IMO that puts him ahead of some people. Not that I expect the show to turn out all that well, but it won't be because this guy has never played a video game and tried jumping into a pretty mechanically complex action game right away. Saying that he sucks because he can't handle playing God of War as his first game ever would make us no better than the hardcore Souls crowd sneering at anyone who can't beat Dark Souls when they've never played an RPG before.

I agree with @BrawlMan that he should at least watch someone else play through it if he can't do it himself though.
Oh yeah I definitely agree with that. Way better than other netflix directors, like for example the lady who had outright contempt for the Witcher and tried to "fix" it, resulting in her clashing with the main lead playing Geralt (Henry Cavile I wanna say) who was actually a fan, causing him to quit part way through the series. He at least cares and seemingly doesn't have outright disdain for the source material.

Okay, $600 might not sound a lot to some, but the OP said they live paycheck to paycheck, while she works 55 hrs/wk and the moron works as a uber driver, so the money is tight for them. Yeah if he doomed himself i'd laugh as well, but this could very well be their future on the line.

$600 on one instance sounds like a lot but if it's like overall then yeah it's nothing. There's a reason why there's so many of these games. If it's Fate Grand Order or something and you're actually trying to NP5 a new servant though, yeah 600 bucks may not even suffice actually. Thankfully that game can be cleared even with f2p content easily and is all about the story so there's no actual reason to do that. But still some people do.
His pedigree for show running/writing is pretty solid; the parts of TNG most people like, DS9, Nu!BSG, For All Mankind. Like you’re not saddled with an idiot, this guy knows how to manage writers and get shit done.
Mind you, other than Outlander, most of his work has been science fiction so historical epic fantasy is largely new territory for him.

Hopefully they fix at least one of 'character creation is an incomprehensible mess' and 'if you do character creation wrong, beating the game becomes significantly harder'.

Cyberpunk setting.....one of the first of its kind in immersive sim...survival horror in the context of SS2....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnddddddddddd the Die Hard type scenarios for both games. I am not big into the franchise either, nor most of its inspirations, aside from Dead Space and certain parts of Evil Within 2. Yet I have nothing, but respect for laying the blue print/ground work for this specific genre of games.

The truly bad gameplay and frustrating design prevented me from ever giving it enough of a chance to get into it. Give me a Bioshock, Dishonored, or Prey any day.
Just because it was first doesn't mean anything when it did pretty much everything badly.
I'll take it. Although, honestly, the original release is still playable just fine on PC.
