Spoilers?
No story nor character spoilers, but more so about Team Cherry's marketing hype and release methods, and how copying it verbatim is a terrible idea. Also about how the last part of this year is packed in any rest of the months from either trying to avoid releasing around GTA VI or pushing it further because of Silksong's shadow drop date.

I don't really think that Team Cherry was doing that. I mean they suck for being radio silent, but I don't feel like they were malicious or overly cautious about the Silksong release date. If they were malicious they would have shadow dropped it the same day, 2 weeks gives other games time to do something and its pretty different from GTA6 so unless they were worried about releasing it same day or something, no risk there. Even if they wanted to maximize money from it they could have done other things, make it $40, release it on switch 2 launch, or something else.

Simmons makes it clear, he knows it wasn't malicious nor overly cautious, but more so tone deaf on the whole: "We ran into no issues during COVID and were able to go about as we please, because the town we live in never got hit by it". Though back to the main point, you would have to be a big fool to copy what Team Cherry (unintentionally) did verbatim.

Even if they wanted to maximize money from it they could have done other things, make it $40, release it on switch 2 launch, or something else.
Simmons made a huge note of this as well in the last 8 minutes of his video.

@Old_Hunter_77, Witcher 4 update.
As always I do appreciate you remembering what folks are into and posting updates. But I'm not a fan of that dude so in lieu of watching a half hour update from him is there any new outside of marketing hype?
I mean I'm not opposed to marketing hype, it is business, but I figure they're promoting how they've learned from Cyberpunk, focusing on story and quests because everybody knows that is what fans love about The Witcher games, something about freedom of choice, and all that stuff.

Me personally, I feel that game is still so far away so my hype is on simmer not boil. I know it was a long time since TW3 and naturally they're gonna have different people than before. And some of the TW3 folks are releasing some vampire RPG and I'm perfectly fine if that game turns out to be more interesting than TW4. I also don't expect or even want TW4 to be as good as TW3 because context is everything. TW3 is great to me because it came out at a time when it was exactly what I was in the mood for.

Either way I'm glad it's a long time between releases. I have finally reached the point of Assassin's Creed burnout where even though I like them despite their faults, their faults have finally superceded the fun and Shadows was the first AC game where I felt like playing was more a force of habit than even dumb entertainment. No matter how good or bad or mid the TW4 might be, at least I will be excited to play it (if my mid-range PC rig can handle it even lol).

Mostly I hope they don't put in bunch of trend crap that annoys me like mandatory perfect time dodging or time-wasting base-building, survival mechanics, or crafting (TW3 has crafting but it's real simple and mostly skippable).

Funny thing, Shadows it's one of the best selling games in the franchise now. Congratulations.

I'll remember that for next time. Curiosity bit me and that was the first thing I found in my search.

If they want an even and balanced schedule, then they better not think of doing that. Though I would blame the execs, if they even tried something like that. I doubt the developers are going to go through that though. Not after the disaster, that was Cyberpunk, originally.

Aren't they all though? I'm going off of memory here but didn't Valhalla sell well even though the critics lambasted it?
I thought AC was basically like Marvel movies at this point- nobody really loves them but enough people like them enough with broad appeal that they sell well and since there's always more people on earth, they keep selling more. That's just how broad appeal entertainment works.
My reaction to Shadows is more about my own shifting gaming preferences. The fact that I'm more interested in Persona 4 and South of Midnight means there is literally nothing that Assassin's Creed could do to make me care about it for more than a casual play-through out of habit.

Yes, but Shadows managed to surpass both, Origin and Odyssey. It almost managed to top Valhalla too.

Yet the grifters try to act as if the game didn't sell well, or "Ubisoft is lying about the numbers!". Funny how they only care about that now, and not way beforehand.

As for the critics: a lot of the critics not working for a corporation, or are completely independent/contract shouldn't even bother with these games anymore, since they hate them that much. That applies to fellow streamers too. PatStaresAt pretty much said he doesn't want to bother with any more future AC games. He kept his word, as he has not touched Valhalla nor Shadows at all.

Excellent. Now you're speaking my language. Go for the true games that give you actual meaning or it's real good fun.

Hahah, a point I was making since Odyssey. Nice to know at least some are finally doing what makes sense.

I made that point since Brotherhood. Besides, one more month until Yotei.

October is gonna be so busy! I got three games coming out all in the same month.

I only briefly played the original, but this part at 3:11 sticks out to me.

"Because I think with the original game we were aiming for a very specific old school style platformer, but I think modern gamers don't necessarily want that. So, looking back, thinking how can we change this to make it appeal to, like I said, more modern sensibility of what people want."

Sounds like homogenization. The same story keeps repeating itself over and over. It's why Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater's "legacy" controls are so fucked up and the game can't be played with the overhead camera in a way that's still enjoyable.

Nope, that's just you being a baby. I find this ironic considering you didn't even like the original release of this game anyway. So you really have no room to talk. And I still would prefer The Impossible Lair over either version because I like the DKC Tropical Freeze aspects better.

Streamlining and homogenization, doesn't have to be bad, when you know how to do it right. Nor is it inherently bad by default. It sound like those supposedly hardcore gamers back during the Wii era. The same foolishness and acting as if you're the only ones that matter, and nobody else does. My way or the highway type bullshit. What you usually do. Sucks to be you.

I actually reinstalled Yooka after watching that video. Then I remembered that I don't like any of the characters, the world or the story and started playing Spyro 2. There's no saving that game. I'm sure Yooka-Replaylee will flop. Doesn't take away from the point about homogenization.

I'm wishing for Yooka-Replaylee will flop.
That sounds more accurate. I doubt it'll happen considering, Impossible Lair sold great. poken like a true contrarian who won't even help out the little guy, but still wants the AAA to do everything for him. Even though said person constantly bitchrs about them, too, about not getting anything right. Or not being the "perfect paradise" of the old days. You don't know what the hell you want and never will.

You suck and you sicken me. I may not care for most of these games, they've made, but there's clear passion behind these, and at the end of the day, they care, thus their audience in people, they are expanding to, will care. You're just another grumpy, old jerk, with nothing better to do in their lives, but get off other people's misery. Pathetic.

I would never wish the worst on people who just want to make a good and fun game. Even if I don't like it or it's not my forte. They're out just trying to make things better for people in a gaming space, and that's all that matters to me. They're not screwing anybody over, nor trying to gaslight them into buying loot box/season passes

No, you're pathetic, because you take it all far too seriously and personal and constantly act like a child. Impossible Lair is a 2D game from six years ago, not the original 3D collect-a-thon Yooka from three years earlier that didn't do very well because it wasn't as good as the games that inspired it. Giving players all the abilities from the start likely won't save it. I'm not hoping or wishing for a flop, because I don't care about the developer one way or the other. "Then why did you post the video, huh?" Because it spoke to a bigger issue.

Blah blah blah! Since "No you!" is your best comeback, I'm going to laugh extra hard.

Thank you captain obvious. Tell me something I don't know, which you can't. Once again, I straight admit it. I prefer that game over the original or the remake they're doing of the first. Even though i'm not a fan of the original item on the remake, since it'll fix all the issues I had with it.

Projection again; it's all you ever do too. It sounds more like you're talking about yourself, than me or anyone else. You really gotta work on admitting your actual problems and not blaming them on somebody else.I wouldn't expect anything less from somebody who cries constantly over nothing, keeps falling for the alt right grift ( because they only say the things you want to hear), and hangs out with Nazis on a shitty forum where everyone thinks they're being funny, but not. Congratulations for fitting that bill. Be proud of that.

I notice you're trying to change the subject again. It's all you ever do when you get annoyed, along with ad hominems, always making the argument way too broad as the other person has to respond to five other things rather than speak on the original point. I can't remember if I've ever had an actual debate with you. Childish.

I never changed the subject to begin with. That would be you. Though for the record, you did the post the screenshot of yourself on one of those forums, so that's on you. More than a few people did call you out on that.

Now onto much more important matters:
