If you looking for games with much more even difficulty curves, I can recommend DmC 2013. The definitive version even more so. If you don't have your PS5 anymore, then just to get the pc version. It's not the definitive edition, but it'll work well enough for you
I was honestly considering a whole DMC saga play-through. Both for the actual fun of playing but also like a historical tourism thing. Dunno, maybe, we'll see...

Even for historical tourism, don't bother playing DMC2. It has no redeeming qualities except for one cutscene right at the end, and you can just watch it on Youtube without having to bother playing through the entire game to get there.

Here, I'll even post it. I literally do not care one bit about spoiling this game.

There is not much in this game to spoil about to begin with.

Please, whenever you can. Since you do have a Switch 2, I recommend getting that version of Devil May Cry 3. It's the only version that has freestyle mode. Which allows you to switch between all of Dante's style's on the fly, at any time. It's also the only version that has an optional Bloody Palace Co-Op. One player plays as Dante, and the other as Vergil.

You can also pick up the first game on the same console, if you want. The first game is rough around the edges, but still plays well for the most part. Let's just remember DMC1 is the first of its kind. Though technically, a more obscure PS1 game called Rising Zan: Samurai, beat it to the punch. Obviously, DMC1 did it better.

Even so, it's still got more going mechanically, aesthetically and in the story than DMC2 managed. Admittedly, that was the result of a troubled production cycle to my understanding, but considering the game that got released, and even acknowledging that back in the day it somehow sold better than the original, it's kind of incredible that Capcom let Hideaki Itsuno take another stab at it with DMC3.

Reminder that Itsuno wasn't even the original director for the second game. The mystery director who walked out during production didn't even like Dante. Hence why he's so out of character, for a majority of the game. All Itsuno what's doing was trying to salvage that guy's mess. Also, a majority of the team was made up from strictly from the arcade division at the time. Almost all of them never worked on a home console game before. So you can tell by the lack of experience or why all the puzzles are super basic, even compared to the first game.

Hmm... well admittedly I haven't done all the research 'cause I haven't decided on what to play after Donkey Kong but there was the HD collection that has the first three games, but I'm pretty sure it's NOT for Switch. But I think if I were to play those old games I would prefer the Switch for the handheld option. I dunno we'll see. I know in order to play some old Switch games you need a subscription which I'll never do, or maybe that's just for old Nintendo games? I'll figure it out, just need to look into it.

I've also been considering a Metal Gear Solid franchise play-through. Both of these series feel like I know them through osmosis even though I never played them (beyond a few initial hours of MGS5) and how influential they were to other games I like.

I know I've said I don't understand "schadenfreude," but as someone who can't help but click on any "first time playing Dark Souls" video... I know exactly what the joy of schadenfreude feels like. I started this guy's videos a few days ago, and they're gold. Objectively quality videos, but as many claim to be playing blind and not looking at guides, I'm more convinced he was genuine than most I've seen, as evidenced by my screaming at my screen following some of the blind decisions he makes. Either it's expert-level trolling, or he truly has no idea what he's doing. Still, he manages pretty well, learns from his mistakes, and makes progress at an impressive pace. He also eagerly reads the description of everything he picks up which I imagine is what Miyazaki envisioned when he hid 99% of he context in there.

But my favorite part of every "first time" playthrough is The Archers, and my guy did not disappoint. The first video is timestamped at his first attempt; the second is timestamped at the failure montage that had me pissing myself laughing (schadenfreude.)

EDIT: I about had a baby when my dude ran past the bonfire a the 2:05:50 mark...

games, but I'm pretty sure it's NOT for Switch.
The trilogy collection isn't, but each game is sold separately on Switch.

Both are on sale right now. $9.99 each. You have until the twenty third of this week.

How often do games go on sale on Nintendo store (more of a rhetorical question here, I'm not expecting anybody to rep Nintendo hahah). Because Steam sales aren't usually enough to make me jump, I can be confident they'll come around again.

But yeah I'll probably just grab the first one for now. Am feeling an itch for button mashing stupid violence.

I know you said it's rhetorical, but it literally depends on who's doing what sale. Is it Nintendo themselves or a specific large third party publisher or developer? It happens when it happens, but they do a sale like every two months or so. If we're just strictly talking Nintendo themselves.

But yeah I'll probably just grab the first one for now. Am feeling an itch for button mashing stupid violence.
Have fun. I would still recommend you get the third game first. Since it's a prequel anyway, has much better controls which are fully customizable, and has the best story and characters out of the entire franchise. They'll do whatever makes you feel most comfortable and fun. Let me know when you're having trouble with certain sections.

@Old_Hunter_77, this game called Pragmata might be of interests to you. It's a really unique third person shooter, and doubles as a "Dad Game". Dad Space, if you will.

its been in development hell for awhile, so I wouldn't get your hope to high.
So? You forget, this is a Capcom game. I am not expecting to sell over 100 million copies or whatever, but the gameplay looks to be polished according to Max, and people who played at Gamescom. It's nice to see Capcom's more experimental side again. It's coming out in 2026, and I am ready for it. It will be good.

BTW, Lost Soul Aside has been in development since 2016. Black Myth? In development since 2017.

Hmm -

One note -

@Eugene-Poole 5 days ago
@4:01 has been disproven. Someone freed the camera during that cutscene. He faces the opposite direction of the soldier.

Looks cool. The reliance on dark corridors and since I generally don't get much of a kick out of shootings things means this will be a game I'd try when I'm on one of my Gamepass round-robin kicks, which I happen to be in now, but not a game I would buy on release.
That's not a criticism at all- these are the kinds of the games that I want to be populating the landscape.
