Already the world's richest man, Musk could grow his net worth considerably under a proposed pay plan from Tesla.
The two board members who have advanced this are nobodies. People with modest track records (at senior / executive level) that struggle to explain their place on the board of one of the world's largest companies. The Tesla board largely compromises associates of Elon Musk, and people like these two who appear minimally or under-qualified, but have received staggeringly generous remuneration for their service - earnings that they surely would not have received in any other employment. They are Musk's catspaws, like most of the board.
There are two other things to consider. Firstly, given the last year or so, Musk has demonstrated that he is potentially a huge liability for Tesla. Secondly, if Tesla is so dependent on Musk, that is a massive risk problem for the company, because it suggests if Musk were to be run over by an AI-driven cybertruck tomorrow, the company is fucked. It's a basic principle of good governance not to have a major, single point of failure. A board would more reasonably be focused on mitigating the risk than rewarding it.
Or maybe Musk is that important, because his stupid antics are the only thing stopping investors viewing Tesla as a mid-size car manufacturer with an AI driver software that it doesn't seem able to deliver.

I think there are several elements here. Lots of the right wing hate Wikipedia because they are intolerant of information systems they don't control and which say things they disagree with. Lots of capitalist twats hate Wikipedia because it is free, and they don't believe in things they can't make money from.
And thus Grokipedia. It has two aims. The first is to try to create competition to, even kill, Wikipedia. The second is to create a resource Musk can profit from - as long it kills off enough opposition, anyway. This playbook has been run a million times: use financial clout to make it attractive so loads of people will use it, and when the competition have been crushed, crank up the charges.
Thus Musk will not only be able to make money of Grokipedia, he can also control whatever it says - and if it is being used to train AIs, then he's controlling what AIs will tell the public, too.
And it won't work.
Wikipedia crushed all the commercial encyclopedias that came before it for a reason. Musk has nothing to compete with it. What does he even want to do ? Make AI write articles ? People will just ignore an encyclopedia full of AI slop and hallucinations. Pay people to write the articles ? Too expensive to match the volume of Wikipedia even remotely. Use free conttributions but only those with a right wing slant ? That is just a second Conservapedia.
He has no selling point and, again, vastly overestimates his reach.
The only way for that to succeed is if gouvernments sabotage Wikipedia.

Scots being a language originating of course from Scotland, descended from Early Middle English, and so closely related to modern English, but distinct from it, with it's own grammar and vocabulary, similar to say, Dutch and Afrikaans.
But the Scots version of Wikipedia is legendarily bad. Because almost every article on the Scots Wikipedia is written by a single person: an American teenager (at the time) who cannot speak, read or write Scots, but who took it upon himself to translate Wikipedia to Scots anyway. The end result was poorly spelled English with English grammar and the occasional Scots word haphazardly thrown in.
The tragedy of it? No matter how well intentioned that American teenager was, as a repository of the Scots language, his work is a load of shite. But due to the consolidation of the internet into an ever diminishing number of sites, and the already tiny presence of Scots on it, this is now the main source on Scots for the vast majority of people, at least for non-native Scots speakers.
The point being how even a single nobody can end up destroying knowledge by being unconcerned with truth or accuracy.

When it offers no advantage over better encyclopedias, except maybe ideological bias. AI's main advantage over wiki, as I see it, is that you can ask specific questions and get something that might resemble an answer, but not if it's pre-written.
Possibly, it could be a scam and he knows what he is promising is beyond him. Though him being off with the fairies again is hardly unlikely.
