DLSS 5 is going to enhance games with AI.
The word "enhance" is doing a hell of a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.

Been an NVidia user my whole life, but next time I'm in the market for a GPU upgrade, I'm gonna look at the AMD shelf instead.

My fix is to simply double check anything handed to me and/or do manually what I would need to do regardless as a fail safe, i.e.: anything anyone hands me to be responsible for, I will check for accuracy before publishing what their AI assistant has produced.; if I have to make mention of that, I can, but I'm not about to die on that hill that we're doing dumb shit because AI has convinced us it can do it for us.
I hear you, but I don't think this is about being contrarian or doing down AI, it's being transparent about working practices. My concern is not about AI, but impact on you and your team as workers. It sounds to me like your colleague is generating inefficiency, and this is creating an additional burden for you. If so, that either squeezes out other work responsibilities you could take on or requires you give up your own time working extra hours (presumably unpaid). So there's your protection as a worker to consider, your colleague's improvement in her work, and general organisational improvement.

The way it lights buildings seems to make it look more photorealistic, but also adds a bunch of lines to every NPCs face and makes them way uglier.
I kinda like the way the characters look tbh. But I am a fan of AI because I like tech and I have enjoyed seeing the tech improve. AI has gotten better so fast that it's been insane to watch. And with DLSS 5 already doing this kind of thing, well 6 and 7 are gonna be insane.

I would like to present a scenario in which AI is going to end up being a good thing for gaming. How many games can you think of in the AAA space that have taken a stupid amount of development time? I mean the average AAA game is now like 7 years in development. Well, with AI tools if that development now only takes 3 years, how is that not better.

It doesn't take 7 years to write a game story let's be honest. So the "human" aspect of emotion and content doesn't have to be sacrificed at the alter of AI. However with Ai being able to say create baseline game assets, to which artists can then polish and enhance, it dramatically reduces the dev time for making fucking rocks and buildings and shit. What's wrong with that?

I'm not saying AI should or would just fully shit out games in a few hours or whatever, but much like many tools we now use on a daily basis like Photoshop, video editing software, software has made creation much easier than ever before. Film editors are not cutting physical piece of film and splicing segments together anymore. CGI has made movie effects much better and easier than physical animatronics. Tech eventually changes how things are done typically to make shit easier, and it's happened across every industry.

Ai is just another tool, and I dont really care about the idea that AI will cost developers their jobs because over the last decade we've seen tens of thousands of developers lose their jobs for all sorts of fucking reasons, it's an incredibly volatile job even before AI was a thing, and it wont be any different now that there's AI.

Fuck AI. When tweetning small animations, or do small surface level stuff is one thing. It's another when it tries to replace everything or act as if it's to end all to be all. If this is where everyone in the major industry is heading, I want no part of it, and we'll just stick with indie games and retro. You have fun deluding yourself thinking that it's going to be, nothing but positive vibes or that it won't be abused or used as a replacement for actual human work, art, and effort. You, are, you, are you already know? The corporals are gonna abuse the hell out of this, and most people do not like AI. Though coming from you, I don't expect anything less. And you've always held the cynical view or act as if nothing bad is gonna happen until it start does. AI does harm the environment and mother Earth. Hence, one of the many reasons people are fighting against it. Those AI data centers calls too much heat and you know, those companies won't dispose of them properly either.

If you want to be their shill and tool, you have fun with that. Just remember, they don't give single a fuck about us and people. Have fun with that flunky's arrend.

There are already way too many generic games being produced, increasing developer's ability to do so quickly is the opposite of a good thing. But, I don't really care that much, I haven't been interested in 99% of what the AAA industry produces for a long time so this doesn't actually make a difference.

I think the generic problem is more a problem of publishers trying to chase trends, rather than a creativity problem with developers in general. AI isn't going to make or break that kind of thing because it's an entirely different problem.

I posted this on the complain train thread in Octoboer of last year, but wanted to share it again here as it involves AI;
Ah, don't sweat it too much. This shit has always happened and always will, we live and learn.

First scientific poster I did during my PhD, for an international conference, I submitted the abstract with the statistics showing the significance. Then some time later realised that I had calculated the statistics in a way that was... not completely invalid, but definitely very suboptimal. I told my supervisor... he was not pleased.

However, thankfully the probability was still significant when done properly, so not a total disaster. And on the bright side, I made damn sure I knew my stats inside out thereafter, and developed a good reputation for knowing them.

Not surprising you totally miss the nuance behind anything. I guess you're not capable of thinking critically or something I don't know, but you consistantly always miss the point and miss the use cases for everything only to prop up what you believe to be villainy. I frankly don't know how you can possibly function in real life considering you seem to hate everything, except until you hypocritically dont because something comes along (usually a brawler) that you'll defend despite coming from the same corpo evil shit you claim to despise.

AI datacenters are a completely different thing, and they have nothing to do with running AI tools locally in studio to help work on projects. Data centers are dumb and I don't know what the point is. They exist on a completely different scale than local AI tools.

I've made AI models myself and do image and video generation on my own machine and I'm not ruining the environment nor pulling any extra power beyond what my GPU would be doing playing a video game. AI can be run on smaller scales that work perfectly fine.

My biggest fear of AI usage in legal front is starting to come true....

This was only a AI image scanning, but considering how much of a joke US legal system already is, I am concerned that these fake AI images and videos will be used as "factual" evidence in courts one day.....

It already has been. They used an AI image of the Alex Pretti shooting in court where on of the officers didn't even have a fucking head.

I didn't miss anything; I just don't give a shit. Try stuffing that shit and your previous post at Famiboards, SpaceBattles, or Retrogametalk. There are a lot more people over there than here, and most of them are going to look at you like you're the dumbest one in the room. Once again, a majority people aren't in on a I especially when it's used to replace people or acts if it can fix everything. We're not even close to "we are getting there". We don't need to go there in the first place. Check Max's stream from last night. He knows way more than you do about animating in 3d and rendering. Dude has a decade over experience for this stuff. You don't know shit. AI can't keep it consistent when in motion, it loses merit from even simple animations or turning the camera another direction. This has been proven more than once, and the fact that you don't know this shows how little you actually know. That's in his stream too, and he mentions it more than once for great reasons.

You falling for the AI grift is no surprise, considering you had no problem falling for the alt-right grift, like you usually did. There is nothing left to discuss with someone like you who don't see the actual problems or bigger picture of the environment being wasted or are blindly following these schemers every word.

AI should be used for stuff like this:

Not replacing people nor art made by actual humans. Eat that sludge as much you want with the other pigs who want it. I'll be taking no, part, because I have actual standards.

My biggest fear of AI usage in legal front is starting to come true....

At least you have your head on straight, ad can see the actual problems and bigger picture. And this, of course, is a much bigger threat, but not by much. A lot of these are harmful or use just a cut corners. All for the sake of lazines and blind faith in something. Acting as if it's their god.

That is not the case.

AI is good for very small standalone tasks. It is horrible for huge software projects where it doesn't know the context, people have a hard time seeing all the implications of a bit of code and training data is an issue. You won't get from 7 to 3 years via AI, at least not in the next decade. You might get from 7 to 6 years and tripple the bugs, tripple the code size and half the perdormance.

There is more utility for indie studios and AI.
