I’m also glad her and Joel kinda hashed it out a bit there, because that tension needed some resolution if just for her sake. Not sure how much it ultimately helped (or hurt?) her outlook though.A lot of people in that world are still getting infected though, and taking that risk away would allow for a lot more breathing room to rebuild and help people. The reason a lot of people became so desperate and violent is because the risk of infection and consequently the risk of getting killed by infected took away any security they had. There's a scene in TLoU2 where Ellie and Joel come across the infected bodies of a couple that left Jackson, because they wanted to go out and help others less fortunate, to which Ellie solemnly highlights 'If only the were immune, right?'
Also I don’t recall from my play through’s but apparently the stuff you find in game says as much about the cure being mostly bs anyways, so I’m wondering if that sorta tied into Joel’s reasoning in an unspoken/unaccounted for way.
