Battle of the strategy games, Gears vs Xcom.

I actually pre-ordered XCOM because it's literally $10 and looks really cool so why not. But man, just looking at the discussions on Steam as I was looking to find out the length, it looks like there's tons of hate. I saw all the changes in the trailer and instantly loved them.

Yeah, there are a whole bunch of butthurt dinks that are raging about various stupid things. I haven't checked in a bit, but the main ones I saw was that it looked like a mobile game (just like the xcom remake), that it had a black lesbian (no idea where the lesbian thing came from, probably just from her acting assertive), that it looks too cartoony (they must not have played any other xcom games), and that you can't genocide the aliens.

Strategy release I'm waiting for is Total War: Warhammer III (well, just the announcement would get me moist for now(!)).

It better be this year or I'll be slightly upset with them! I need my Ogre Kingdoms!!!!!

And guess it's Chimera Squad. I really can't pass up a ten dollar game that's X-COM, except now you get to use aliens too. That's awesome.

With the quarantini flavour of the season, impending Greenskins update and not-even-announced next release of Total War Sagas: Troy, I reckon TW: Warhammer III will be mid-late 2021 at earliest. :/ I really want to see what they do with all the races left to go: Kislev; Chaos Dwarfs; Chaos Daemons; Ogre Kingdoms, all filled to the brim with juicy stuff, especially the Chaos Dwarfs with their Lore of Epicly Tall and Spiky Hats(!)

I really wonder what WHI/II race Lords they'll hold for WHIII, 'cos there are only a handful per race by this point. That said, they could very well do a Nakai for most races. Hoping they bring in more Legendary Heroes, too, 'cos every race should have access to them very easily (really want to see Ramhotep the Visionary, 'cos he's quite amusing... for a Tomb King character that is(!)).

The Muton does look kinda goofy with the frog eyes, though i'm sure that can be easily fixed with mods.

Yeah, that design choice is kinda weird, but you can also probably give him a helmet or something too.

I like to believe they've learned their lesson from Thrones, and apparently, Troy is going to use the same version of the engine as used in the TW:WH series, so it should be OK. They've modified the economy to be more driven by resources rather than straight gold values in a treasury, so I'm not entirely sure about what's going on there. I'm not expecting much from it, just hoping it's serviceable like FotS.

I really want a teaser, something(!) soon WHIII related, but eh. There's still WHII content to come, but III can't come soon enough.

I'm not a great fan of the cell shaded art style, but it's not too bad in the main game. Individual initiative for your squad and enemies sounds pretty cool, otherise it generally looks pretty similar.

Going all district 13/star trek federation isn't where I was expecting it to go, but I can see it makes sense, we had the skirmishers in X-com2 and if the Elders have been booted off planet I can see the other aliens throwing their lot in with us to make a go of it.

Since this has also gone all Warhammery, would anyone else be exceptionally happy for a Chaos Gate remake?

Wait? Chaos Gate is getting a remake? Neat, I liked that game, its no Dawn of War but it was pretty solid, if buggy.

Sadly, not that I know of the question was a hypothetical, would you be happy for a Chaos gate remake. If there was going to be a chaso gate remake I'd be swinging from the rafters.

GoG has it, but they had to get round the heretic death crash bug by making the heretics disappear when killed. I managed to get ia ROM version working perfectly on Windows XP.

I think I have a virtual machine setup with XP, would be easy to use that. hmm.

Last Gears i played was Gears 3. the series should've died there.
So basically this is just Halo Wars but Gears of War themed instead of Halo themed is that right?

No, Halo Wars was an RTS game, Gears Tactics is a squad level strategy game, kind of like Xcom or Final Fantasy Tactics or something like that.

If you want to know more this vid that really goes over how the gameplay works and what to expect. It sounds like it will have much more emphasis on being aggressive, compared to the move to cover and shoot/overwatch type gameplay of Xcom.
