Mario or Pikachu, who's more recognizable?

As someone who grew up with Mario (I played Donkey Kong and the original Mario Bros. in the arcade) and has never played a Pokemon game, I'm going to have to go with the yellow electric rat, just for the sheer amount of merchandise and media he's been on/in.

Yeah that Mario movie was made 3 years before pokemon existed. Mario is not made into anything like that anymore.

I'm going to have to give it to Pikachu simply because my grandmother played Pokémon on Gameboy color and bought her grandchildren Pikachu Plushies but had no idea who Mario was.

Although Mario had a head start, I think Pikachu surpassed him.

The only people I keep seeing that are still into Sonic games and merch are furries and creepy people on the autism spectrum. Regardless, even when Sonic has dumb comics and DVDs on shelves, that doesn't really mean massive sales. It just means that it gets a decent revenue stream from degenerates in general.
