Wait so it is actual historical fact that JFK. Castro, McNamara and Nixon were just kicking it in the white house then zombies attacked.
Zombies is actually an Alternate Universe and not part of the "secret history" genre. It has no relation to the Black Ops storyline.

Did you really not know that, or are you just trying to be cute?

We are talking about a game where you go into KGB headquarters and kill everyone there, and has one of it's endings results in the nuclear destruction of Europe. All of it
A firefight inside of the KGB building is inside the realm of secret history. It would be in Russia's best interest to cover it up, because if they didn't, the US could just fire back with the list of sleeper agents they stole. Neither side wanted a full-out war, hence, cold war. This isn't a sufficient divergence from the established history.

Nuking all of Europe is the bad, non-canon ending, so you're only proving my point. I needed to teach some of you about the secret history genre. Do I need to teach you how canon works too?

I mean, I didn't need to take special college courses to understand these things, so I'm really baffled at how none of you get this. Unless you're all just feigning ignorance because you don't want to lose the argument.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing" seems pertinent to quote here.

Also, there's something to be said about the need for a game to be historically authentic vs historically accurate.

That said, I have zero interest in Call of Duty as a franchise now that it can all go die in a dumpster fire. They included a non-binary option in one? Uh... *opens mouth to voice opinion*... yeah, I genuinely don't care about it in this context. Don't @ me(!)

So, I was going to talk about how terrible relations between the two countries were at the time this game takes place, but then I thought about this thread, and your reasoning and arguments, and you know what? I actually laughed, out loud, for a good few minutes. Full blown laughter. I had a rather shitty day, and this has, no joke, absolutely brightened my day. So thank you Houseman, I needed that. Now, back to your point, so this secret history can include full blown shootouts in KGB Headquarters with American agents...but non-binary people being in the CIA is the thing you want to single out as out of place and could not have happened. Do...we need to teach you about the secret history genre?

Go ahead, teach me something. Make an actual point instead of just repeating my own argument with incredulity.

I love how in all the insanity CoD can pull, gender options is the thing that sends people into a frenzy.

Please, carry on. Popcorn's stale, but still edible.
I saw the non binary thing in a review, and I new that people would flip out over it. It's incredibly innocuous, but people gotta be rabid about something that shouldn't affect them.

I'm still chuckling. But sure: sexually androgynous people are the perfect spies; with the right prosthetics/wigs, they could become anybody. Non-binary people likewise, though it would be a bit harder if they have more defined characteristics (obviously), but they have a larger pool of candidates to pool from. Therefore, it is obviously entirely possible that non-binary people took part in a firefight in the KGB, but we can't know for certain because it's secret (duh). Ergo, non-binary people is realistic for the period and not propaganda (well...not more so than Call of Duty ends up being for America but I digress). The best part? You have even less of a leg to stand on here than the BFV nonsense, as the non-binary options mainly come down to, basically, the same options you got when making a Saints Row character and can choose to have the dialog say "they/them" instead EDIT: In the singleplayer campaign no less. This is comedy at this point.

It's always fun to watch BUT MA REALISM!!! crowd shit itself over what might be the only somewhat realistic part of Call of Duty (that non-binary people exist).

Good times!

Don't bother debating him. You are just going to get into constant circles.

I agree with everything except openly identifying as "non-binary", and being welcomed into the CIA as "non-binary". Like I said in post 13.

Especially since the term wasn't even coined yet.

It's like playing a pirate game where you can sail a rainbow pride flag.

Oh, I know. That's why this isn't a debate; my post right there speaks for itself. Speaking of...

Especially since the term wasn't even coined yet.
Secret history

Secret pirate history. Colors in horizontal bars isn't hard, and anyone could accidently put them in the order of the "proper" flag.

The term back then might have been gender-queer or transvestite. *shrugs*

Either way, it's just a small thing added to a bad game series. Give it a rest.

Carl Sagan believed civilization would begin to fall when people were no longer able to differentiate fact from fiction. Turns out he was also precognitive.

People believe more misinformation now than ever too, because the Information Age is flooded with it. It’s only a matter of time before it wreaks havoc on everything.

Secret history
The government having access to advanced technology fits the "secret history" thing, because we all know that all the super-advanced stuff is produced and kept secret for government use, and is later declassified and adapted for the general public. It's plausible and fits.

The government having their own classification for "non-binary", so that they can send androgynous spies out on missions? I don't buy it.

The term back then might have been gender-queer or transvestite. *shrugs*
And that would have been GREAT if they would have used transvestite! It would have been period-accurate!

To do otherwise is to pretend that the government, of all things, was always this wonderful progressive place where people from all races, sexes, and gender identities are equally respected. Y'know, propaganda.

This is essentially where I'm coming from.

"to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed"

But okay, I'm the bad guy here.

Aren’t you the one DEMANDING that games be changed to suit your view of the world?

You must have me confused with someone else, because I never demanded that anything be changed.

I don't understand why you keep accusing me of doing things that I've never done. This is like the fifth time you've done this.
