My girlfriend's brat-ass, 16-year-old son asked for an Xbox Series X for Christmas a week after launch of the system. His dad (not in the loop on how new console launches work) was just gonna "pick one up'' for him. I explained that those consoles were NOT going to be readily available for months, and if he
did manage to find one, he'd be paying scalpers' prices. After a few failed attempts, he resigned to the fact it'd have to be a 2021 gift...
Fast forward to today: we bought her son's dad a Keurig machine. I wrapped it and placed it under the tree. Her son walks by, sees the newly wrapped gift and exclaims, "Oh, I know what THAT is!!" followed by a wringing of the hands and a fist pump. "Why is he so excited about a coffee maker for his dad which he knows nothing about," I asked myself. Then it hit me: the box is roughly the size of the Xbox he THINKS he's getting in a couple of days.
I don't like the holidays; they're expensive, inconvenient and shallow. But I DO love the look of a disappointment on a spoiled child's face, and I am VERY excited to see this one in particular, hence, in the spirit of the thread, it made me smile, not unlike this:
