Hit me up sometime if you're available on PSN, will do co-op later. Note: My PSN has my old user name.
Sorry to let you down, but that isn't gonna work. I have the PC version, and I live on the other side of the world. I've heard that the latency is... a bit of an issue with online play in this one. Still, I had a chance to try couch co-op with a friend who's never played before today, so that was nice.

I'll probably try Doom Eternal out of my Christmas pickups next.

Well looks like I will have to get the Steam version at some point. I don't know everything about the online on the PC version, but I know all versions have better online after the last update patch in September. What's neat about the Steam version is that you can do 4 player online co-op via remote play and from what I've seen, that part of the online was always stable even before the patch.

Reminds me, note to self: finish DOOM 2016 on holiday break if possible, in between RDR2 gold rush run, Deus Ex: HR Director’s Cut, and the rather surprisingly wonderful The Surge and Ace Combat 7 I just picked up in the sale.

Still plugging away at Dark Souls 3 (you're welcome, @happyninja42.) Got quite a few boss souls and found the wee little guy at Firelink Shrine that can make boss items for me, however, I'm confused. I just give him the boss souls and a few regular souls and I get the items? No need for a previously maxed weapon to be transmorgafied with boss souls? Seems too easy and a perfect opportunity for FROM to have shoehorned in some tacit mechanic that doesn't reveal itself until I waste precious "once a cycle" items. I know I'm trying to play blind, so no need for specifics, but if someone in the know could just suggest that "yes, it IS that easy," or "no, hold on to them; you can use them later to get a bigger bang for your buck," it'd be appreciated. (Playing a Dex build anyway, and none of the boss items I could get right now seem all that worth it...)

As far as I can tell, it is that easy. A number of things in DS3 were streamlined, including this(granted, you have to kill an annoying boss to get that abiity). I ended up holding onto a lot of boss souls till later just in hopes one of the weapons would seem viable but most of them require either high magic skills or huge amount of strength to make it worth it, and honestly, picking a regular weapon and just upgrading it seems a lot more useful then like 90% of the boss weapons I've seen so far. The Dancers Swords are kinda cool for a dex build since one blade has fire and the other has dark.

I think there's one special weapon you can only get if you go through two complete game cycles and combine the same boss soul from both cycles The Twin Princes but I have no idea if it's worth it honestly.

FROM made up for it by making a bunch of the NPC questlines easy to fuck up if you weren't using a guide or paying close attention. Including the secret ending

Ok, thanks for the info.

And yeah, I generally haven't been paying much attention to the NPC questlines; they're always too convoulted to intuit without specific specific direction. Should I bother, maybe in NG+ or something.

I got a VR headset! So, naturally, im trying a whole host of new games.

Here are the ones that I have tried, so far:

SUPERHOT VR - I've played this on PC, and I can say that it translates beautifully to VR. It is so much fun punching, and shooting, and throwing. It is a great time, and easily the best bang-for-buck game i've bought so far, and can be played natively on the Quest 2.

Pistol Whip - I can imagine that this is what being John Wick feels like, and it certainly builds up a sweat. Shooting is utterly effortless, and subsequently so satisfying, and you blast through these levels at an incredible pace. I really like this one, and again, it runs natively on the Quest 2.

Robo Recall - It is incredibly satisfying to grab a robot, pull off its arm, and then beat it to death with it. Sadly, the shooting isn't quite as smooth as the other games that I have tried, and the manual teleporting movement feels clunky. I'd honestly prefer it if the game was stationary like Superhot, or on-rails like Pistol Whip, because the way this game handles movement just doesnt work for me. Still great for beating robots to death, though.

Star Wars: Squadrons - This is the first "proper" VR game that I have played, and I have to say, I definitely miss being wireless. That said, playing this game, being in the cockpit of an X-Wing or a Tie-Fighter, and I am just sat there in awe for every second of it. I love whizzing past another fighter, only to track it in the window above me, as I fly around to shoot it down. I have no idea what this game would play like without VR, but I can only imagine that you are getting just a fraction of the experience.

Otherwise, I've got Half-Life Alyx to get to (im afraid this will ruin all other shooty VR games, though), Batman Arkham VR which I picked up on the cheap - I don't have high expectations for this one - and I also have got Beat Saber which my girlfriend has been playing around with.

Im a firm believer that VR is the future of gaming, and this has certainly cemented that belief. Im happy that I finally have my hands on a headset, and I cant wait to see what is coming, next.

I'll throw out there too that Robo Recall is a few years old and that's why the movement is sort of cruddy. Most newer games have teleport as an option for people who get motion sickness, but typically its smooth movement and with the Quest if you have a big enough room a lot of games will just let you physically walk up to stuff. I was put off the same way when I tried it - teleporting sucks, no healthbar so I don't think you can fail, just wander around and shoot stuff. As to aiming - its actually not as bad as it seems. Its this problem with the shape of the controller vs the shape of a gun handle that crops up in a few Quest games with guns. If you get a game like Onward or Drop Dead (I don't like it but eh) that has iron sights, you might notice that you actually have to rotate your wrist forward to alight the sights, like you're using a TV remote, because holding the Quest controller vertically in front of you comfortably actually tilts the cursor up a little bit. With a real gun the handle is slanted for a comfortable grip and holding it naturally basically levels the sights in front of you, but for some reason a lot of VR shooters don't account for this.

If you enjoyed Pistol Whip, you might like Beat Saber - basically you slice notes in specified directions to music with lightsabers. I'm currently playing Pistol Whip (honestly, for exercise with wrist weights) and I love it, but I have no idea how to shoot along to the music the way they expect you to. With Beat Saber it is very clear what you're supposed to be swinging along with.

Other recommendations...

Vader Immortal has gone down in price and it might be worth a look if you're into Star Wars, but a word of warning that the gameplay is very much "walk around and be in awe of hanging out with Darth Vader" with the odd set piece fight. At times I was playing and honestly thinking to myself that fighting people with a lightsaber should feel cooler. And then I found the lightsaber dojo where I was able to do literally everything I wanted to do in the game proper. Throw the lightsaber and call it back, dual wield, force crush dudes, force lightning dudes, use a dude as a human shield while you shoot dudes with a pistol, try and fail to juggle thermal detonators - its all in there. I swear the actual gameplay designers got hustled away from the game so the writers could micromanage another set piece and this is where all their time went instead.

I Expect You to Die is a very fun, silly puzzle game where you work for a budget spy agency. The Room: A Dark Matter is a more serious puzzle game with a hint of spook factor. Red Matter is another serious puzzle game with free movement (and its much better than Robo Recall) and a hint of spook.

Walking Dead is alright... Definitely has solid movement and the mechanics all work but I can't help but think I should have gone with Arizona Sunshine for my zombie shooter choice.

*hissing noises*

OT: Wife and I beat Immortals: Fenyx Rising today. It was fun. It's definitely a streamlined BotW. You love gathering up tons of different items to craft into foods and potions? Well then go play BotW because you don't get any of that in I:FR. You get to craft 4 potions, healing, stamina, offense, and defense. That's it. You can spend a specific crafting item to upgrade the potions to make them more powerful, to the point that the offense/defense pots can basically be god mode while they last. Frankly I'm fine with this, as I used almost none of the piles of shit I was carrying around as Link, as they really weren't necessary at all.

The gear upgrades were fine, but nothing really to write home about. They gave combat bonuses. Helmets give you offense bonuses, like +% damage to axes, or when using air attacks, or against unique enemies, etc. Armor gives you defense bonuses of similar varieties. So depending on what you are doing, you will change out your gear. Though honestly you mostly just find one outfit that suits your playstyle, and stick with that one when the combat starts. You have a stamina boosting outfit as well, which is your puzzle/climbing/etc outfit, as the bonus stamina chunks are very useful. So it's like BotW in that way, but they got rid of the "changing outfits every 30 fucking seconds because you changed elevations, and thus temperatures, or are climbing, etc." which got really fucking old to me.

No weapon durability! ....what? Do you need further explanation? Of course you don't! The weapons don't break when you sneeze on them! Improvement!

Having voice acting, both with the protagonist, NPCs, and the narrators, really helped make it feel more lived in than BotW. I've mentioned before, but the screeching noises of cat/pig hybrid demons, being run through a wood chipper, that Zelda uses to denote speech are...terrible. I:FR uses actual...*gasp* WORDS! And the dialogue is pretty funny most of the time. I've compared it to Xena and Hercules, in tone and level of camp, and I stand by that. So if you don't mind some god tier cheese in your mythology, you will enjoy it.

Cons:
The story is very transparent. I mean they aren't trying to make it terribly deep, but if you are at all familiar with story structure and narrative pacing, you will see pretty much all the points WAY ahead of time. Which, again, not a big deal, as they often lampshade their own stuff. They know they are telling a broad parable, as if you were watching an actual play. Bombastic characters, easily understood motivations, the usual. Don't go into this game expecting a mind blowing story. Go in expecting a saturday morning cartoon, with the occasional constant adult joke thrown in there. I mean this is greek mythology, so lots of fucking going on, and it gets referenced.

The quest rewards are very underwhelming. Like, REALLY disappointing. You will do a quest chain, with multiple parts, that is built up like you are doing something epic. Freeing an ancient being trapped by Typhon! They will reward you!! ....you get a skin, for an outfit you don't ever really wear. Oh and maybe a handful of crating materials....but honestly you probably farmed more of them along the way to finish this quest.

Some of the puzzles/vaults were annoying as hell. Like I know BotW had some annoying as shit shrines, and I:FR doesn't force you to use the motion controls of the controller for anything, thankfully. But, they are annoying. Maybe it's just my low tolerance for spatial puzzles, like shifting of blocks onto other blocks, onto platforms, to jump up and press a switch, to move blocks again. I just...no. Jumping/Platform puzzles I'm usually fine with. But I just lose interest in trying to suss out a lot of the more nitpicky kinds of puzzles. And this game had them. Luckily my wife loves those, so she would do those bits.

Some of the story beats used bothered me personally. Minor spoiler, but it's something you learn pretty quickly in the plot, so it's not a huge deal. Like how How Haephestus had his memory trapped, because it was too painful for him. Because the rest of the greek pantheon were all assholes to him, and shunned him. So he carved out his pain to try and avoid it. Well, when Fenyx finds him, and he's basically Bob Ross, with happy little projects. She talks about the pain she sees being "true art". Implying that age old shit of "you have to suffer for your art." Which, yeah fuck you Ubisoft, that's a load of ass. It really made me and my wife reluctant to finish the plot. It was like "Are we the baddies?" There are some others that I can't recall, but that one stuck out. Usually they were little things, and these points are addressed by the end in a way that felt....somewhat earned I guess.

Overall, it was a fun game. Worth playing if you like BotW, and also greek mythology.

Mortal Kombat 11.

Started this one today (story mode) aaaaand....got to the final fight as well...today. Didn't beat it, because that final boss is a fucking PITA, but...yeah it was pretty damn fast. It was fun, even having like zero memory of MK 1-3 (the ones I played), and nothing past that, but it really wasn't needed. The plot is very straightforward. I'm sort of ambivalent on the changing of the roster as you play the story, because some of them I just don't like playing as. But some were fun as hell. Like Jaquie was an enjoyable character, and I liked her basic attacks as well. But, Johnny Cage, both versions, was really damn fun to watch. Not so much to play as, but I really enjoyed the actor playing him. He seemed to be having a blast playing both versions of himself, and the chemistry between them and the rest of the cast was fun. A lot of the sub plots for the different groups were interesting. Like Jax and Jacquie were an enjoyable storyline, as well as Jade and Kitana. Would've liked to see more of those 2 sets, but eh. *shrugs*

I don't like fighting games like this with a controller. I need an arcade joystick apparently. As I lost count of how often I felt like I was doing Left,Right, Button, and apparently it was reading it as Left/Down/Right, so I wouldn't do what I wanted. I did not have that much trouble with just basic move control in the arcades. I think it's the difference in fine control between my whole hand with a joystick, and just my thumb. Luckily you don't really need to know moves to make it through the story, and can just cheese with some good old gouda cheese moves to just win....at least until the last fight. Which again, fuck that boss!

It's fun, I'll probably beat it tomorrow. I might fiddle with the other stuff, though we'll see. If it's just grind stuff to unlock finishers and the like, I'll honestly probably just skip it.

Finished my first professional run of RE4, which was a lot of fun outside of a few usual suspects. One section that really threw me off was the final phase of Krauser's boss fight. On normal I never had any problems with it, but this time he killed me heaps of times. Funnily enough, when I did eventually beat him I did it without getting hit.

Also, after replaying it recently I can say again that the controls are fine.

Fights in Tight Spaces

It's basically that John Wick game, but smoother looking (to me anyway), with the visual aesthetic of Superhot, but it's a deckbuilder like Slay the Spire.

Which...sounds like a strange combination of elements but, it actually works pretty well. It's fun, engaging, building your deck feels solid. And the demo (currently available on steam), is actually pretty solid. To compare it to Slay the Spire, it's basically like one entire floor of the Spire, as the demo. It's not just one fight. You've got a full path to take, multiple fights, multiple events to give you unique options. I think I made it about 10+ locations before I died. Probably closer to 15 really, I got lucky and had a lot of Events/Gyms along a path, so I could skip fights and just upgrade, do events.

So yeah, it's pretty slick. Demo is solid, and lengthy, which is really nice. Check it out if those elements sound fun to you. I'll definitely be playing it more.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I finished Project Wingman and it was fantastic, kinda working on the conquest mode but I have other games to play.

Such as Time spinner which really wants to be Symphony of the Night and does a decent job at it with beautiful pixel art and a pretty interesting story. Seems like it might be on the easy side but I've been gaming so long that I'm not sure I can judge difficulty anymore, I find most games kinda easy.

Also playing Nightmare Reaper still, made it to the second chapter and its still pretty kick ass.

I also grabbed Hardcore Mecha and its awesome, its like one of those super robot taisen games in presentation but the gameplay is side scroller with great controls.

I also grabbed Gunfire Reborn, its pretty cool but I want to finish the current version of Nightmare Reaper before I get into it.

Just platinum'd Ghost of Tsushima (not that difficult, but it was a pleasant experience, NGL). Probably play New Game + to see what the additional content is like (probably not much, but the early game experience will be interesting).

Might return to Dishonored 2 or Horizon: Zero Dawn (still need to get The Frozen Wilds).

Haven't NG+'d GoT yet, but I want to. Frozen Wilds is a good DLC for H:ZD. The enemies are tough as shit, but the story content is actually pretty damn sweet.
I keep meaning to go back and finish Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider. Got pretty far and then just sort of....stopped.

My Dishonored collection is genuinely all over the place. I "believe" my copy of DotO (which I haven't played yet) is on PC, I'll have to check. -_-

Finished Valkyria Chronicles 3 (with English patch). As usual a very fun game, though that last mission can go suck a dick. Compared to the 2nd game I found it better in some areas though worse in others ( I miss the OP fencers). Now that I've played all of them my ranking roughly goes:

Yeah I know that feeling. I would recommend it though, for one, the weapons/armor that are introduced are sweet. More mod slots and way more powerful than the standard stuff. Which is frankly needed because the dinos are beastly up in the frozen wastes.

Same with me. I got to the first village in TFW, after fighting the tought as shit new enemy guarding the path and decided "Ok, cool, gonna come back to this when I'm ready for the meat grinder".

Then I remembered I haven't picked it up since then. So maybe I need to go back to it. It's been like 2 years now I think.

Nier: Automata. I played it for about 10 minutes before uninstalling it. Don't know what I expected, but it failed to appeal to me in record time. It's got a weird, I dunno, cheap vibe? Like plastic, too clean, juvenile, arcade-y? I really didn't like the opening vertical-scrolling shooter sequence, then the transition to the cheap hack-n-slash stuff just wasn't doing it for me either. I'm curious how it got so many rave reviews, but not curious enough to find out by playing it.

I really enjoyed it. The wifey and I went to that content before finishing the main story, as the gear it offered was REALLY good. Like every armor/weapon type, but with 3 slots, which included the stealth armor, so I could slap even more stealth mods on it, and thus become basically invisible. And I love me some sneaky times.

But yeah, it was a good bit of additional lore, and given what happens in it, you might find it interesting, as if you know the plot of the end of the main story, I'm pretty sure it changes some of the dialogue, as it's contextually relevant. Not hugely, but Aloy knowing The Truth, does sort of color her interactions, compared to not knowing you do that stuff before finishing the game. But yeah, if you liked the main game, it's more of that, but with harder enemies, and better gear. More good plot, good voice acting, interesting characters. Just, more of the same, but it's a good "same".
