Damnit Ghost of Tsushima. You trained me to press the right trigger to get on my horse without thinking, and now my beautiful loyal horse in Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been sadly, viciously cleaved in two by the very hands they put their faith in. Poor Colonel Hoofums never got to see their 6th birthday. Lesson. Learnt. Maybe?

I was playing...I forget what, some other game, where mount your horse was the button that GoT has tied to Heavy Attack, so I'd call up my horse with a whistle, he'd trot up, whinny happily at me...and I'd whip out my katana and slice his neck! He'd scream in pain and run away from me, and I felt HORRIBLE every...single...time.


OT: Started playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity with the wifey. It's fun, we're enjoying running around and beating up thousands of dudes. I was planning on using Mipha, the fish girl with the healing powers, because I like playing cleric/healer types whenever given the option. But, honestly you just don't get hurt enough to warrant it, and it's more efficient for you and the other player to take different sections of the map. So I was a little sad....until we unlocked Urbosa, the Giant Dessert Warrior Queen with the power of MOTHA FUCKING LIGHTNING! And I haven't looked back. If you want me to play a combat class instead of a support class in a game? ....give me lightning baby. I will jump on that shit EVERY time. She's just so much fun to play. I feel like I'm playing a Bedouin Thor or Shango. She comes charging in, dressed in desert cloths and golden chains, with her scimitar, and just calls down utter destruction to everyone around her, and I fucking love it. I have noticed some significant frame rate drop when I use her A ability, and the lightning is everywhere, especially as we are playing split screen. Not sure if this is an issue with the game in general, or because it's split screen two player, but it's noticable. Resolution tanks, and the frames start chugging until the lightning death is over. I don't recall it with anyone else, or if it's there, it's nowhere near as apparent.

Also playing Gordian Quest. An early access deckbuilder, that feels a lot like Gloomhaven in it's structure. Persistent decks, leveling of heroes, gaining of stats, and it's a party structure. You have a world you are helping to reclaim and flesh out. And the amount of variety in playstyles, between simply what heroes you have in your team, and what deck types they use (you have 3 choices) can make for some really varied team combos. I'm enjoying it so far, it's starting to replace Slay the Spire as my "run to the side while I watch YT or something" card game.

Resident Evil 3: After dying to the worm in the underground passage and redoing an entire section, I fixed the cable car and managed to get to the clock tower. Decided to leave it there for a bit, see what happens in the tower next time.

Compared to the first two games, they're putting up a seeming point of no return pretty quickly...

Yeah we've been doing the side content as we unlock it, since half of it's just "trade in X amount of stuff" it's pretty easy to do. And the various challenge fights have been a breeze so far. The only one we had to redo a few times was the first "kill these guys without getting hit" one. And even that was mostly just me goofing up on a few timing issues with dodge. But yeah it's fun so far. We had an awesome moment that I wish we had screenshotted, we were Link and Urbosa, I was Link. We were fighting a miniboss of some kind, the ones that you try and break their defense pie slice by slice, and then get the kill shot cinematic. Well due to just absolutely random timing, I was going in for a sword leap, to plunge my blade down into the enemy, and it of course slows down the animation for dramatic effect. However my WIFE (not wide, she would not appreciate you calling her that :p ) just happened to trigger Urbosa's lightning attack from one of the attack combos. And the angle the camera swung to, on my screen as it pauses before the killshot, made it where her lightning bolt looked like it struck me, to empower me before making the final plunge. It looked so fucking cool.

On a similar note, don't try and play Souls and Monster Hunter next to each other. Unless you like to failing to dodge (also popular before Destiny became a complete dumpster fire, you could tell who'd just been playing Warframe as they'd grenade themselves immediately ttrying to super jump)



Back to the thread. Warframe just had Operation Orphix Venom land on consoles, so running that. An event introducing a new Necramechs (Necramechs are basically Warframe doing Anthems gameplay, lol) game mode. It is a bit repetitious at present, but the rewards are solid for it. Also got around to defeating the Glassmaker before that Nightwave ended, so I've got a claymore that shoots beams in the air that turn enemies into glass, and dive bomb attacks explode them building.



Also dabbling around in ESO. Finally settled on a Nightblade tank as my main dude (with a side/back bar of DPS). Kind of fun when something aggros away from you, just teleport back stabbing them like LOLNope.


Also booted up Minecraft for a 2021 run. The Nether has biomes and like ruined castles now, and there's an enemy villager faction that raids you. I actually haven't played siince 2018 so I dunno how new all that is..

Your horse is lucky to have survived at least...I had just finished upgrading a powerful 2-handed axe, plus strength stats and was ready to test out the fresh raw power on frustrating mini-bosses, sweet innocent Colonel Hoofums never had a chance! 😔

However, as a roguelite the game is somewhat lacking. Once you manage to defeat Hades you've seen nearly all the content the dungeons will offer up.
I felt similarly. Its a good game, but it doesn't have enough rouge in the rougelike to my mind. Its sad too because I wanted to get all the goodies and see all the discussions but there's so much more VA/Story/Cheevo content than there is actual gameplay content. I didn't get nearly as far as you - I skipped to the end of the Skelly challenges, and decided nothing else was worth going for.

Journey to the Savage Planet

First person metroidvania. It's got a scan visor, an grapple beam, and some enemies that feel straight out of Tallon iV. So yeah, inspirations very obviously Metroid Prime-y. Not nearly as good as those games, but it's got some neat stuff going for it. Like how most of your arsenal is made up of seeds of local flora you throw at stuff. Or how you can make enemies fight each other if you're clever about it. Or that with some skill you can get some optional upgrades before you have the proper ability for it. Not quite sequence breaking, but it's been a while since I played a Metroidvania that actually let you do anything out of order. Also, nice colorful visuals with fun albeit not all that original environments design. Not much story, you're an explorer stranded on an alien planet and you need to get home, but it's got a bit of a sense of humor. Music's kind of meh tho. And there's only 3 bosses, which are all pretty easy. Game's pretty easy in general actually.

Overall, pretty decent. Could help tide big Prime fans over while Retro Studios is hopefully getting shit done.

Burned a couple hours in to Burnout Paradise Remastered. Still a fun Burnout game despite its flaws. I'm having fun and enjoying myself and that is all that matters. Revenge will always be the best. In order:

Nethack again. I love the game, but it doesn't love me. Even after years of playing and a fair number of ascensions I'm still making stupid mistakes and dying. I just lost a very promising run as a priest. I wanted to curse some water so I had just finished painstakingly removing all my equipment and separating 9 water into individual stacks. I had intended to get confusion from eating tripe and then reading a blessed scroll of remove curse. I was satiated already, but I was kind of impatient to get this done so I could put my clothes back on. "You are having a hard time getting it all down. Stop eating?" [n] "You choke on your food. You die."
GAAAAAAAAH! Idiot!!!

I apparently need to relearn this lesson daily, but you can never be too careful.

If I were to start playing MGSV again, having installed a crap ton of mods before, what would happen to my save file? I want to finally finish the game, but damn am I lazy to track down all of the mods I used back then.

I was looking for a game to play while watching youtube and nothing was grabbing me so I started a new run on Star Renegades.

Still working on Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Cyber Shadow.

Finally finished some runs on Hades, will play more for more story.

Just finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

I'd say it is a better game than AC2, for reasons explained in my previous post, but it isn't devoid of issues.

For one, I found myself in menus a lot more, compared to the previous game. With managing your Assassins, buying shops, investing, and tracking quests, as well as the map icon bloat, which made it really difficult to navigate - I just found myself looking at a white menu, a lot more than I would have liked.

Secondly, I don't feel like the story was as strong. Sure, AC2's story wasn't really anything crazy. It was a simple revenge plot, where Ezio was basically hunting down anyone involved in his family tragedy, only to realise that the group was much bigger than expected, and involved in some kind of much deeper conspiracy, which leads to Ezio joining the Assassin's Brotherhood, and having a fist fight with the pope (yes, seriously).

For the sequel though, the Templars are striking back at Ezio and his family because of the actions of AC2, which leads to Ezio... getting more revenge, I guess? The villain is more present, and more charismatic, sure, but the story seems like of forced, compared to the first game.

Otherwise though, the game is much shorter. In AC2, it feels like all of the work went into the main story, with the side content basically boiling down to "win a race" or "punch a guy". In the sequel though, I would say that Ubisoft's focus was a lot more varied, with a shorter story, but much more interesting side content, with AC2 memories, and Da Vinci superweapons to destroy. I'd honestly feel like if you skipped the side-content in ACB, you would actually be missing out - which is unique for an Ubisoft game.

Also, did you know that the PC version got a random content update in 2017? There was some exclusive content for the PS3 version of the game, that was randomly added to the PC version 7 years after the game came out. I thought I was going crazy when I absolutely had no memory of this content.

I also really like Rome. For a while, I had thought that going from 4 (5 if you include your home) smaller cities, to one larger city, was a massive downgrade, but in retrospect, a lot of the smaller cities were kind of... eh. Florence was great, but Venice was just really frustrating to navigate because of the canals, and Tuscany, Forli and Monteriggioni were barely used and too small (with lots of open fields, which is really boring to get around). Rome was a great space to run around in, with lots of buildings and landmarks, even if the cliffs in the countryside were frustrating to get around.

So yeah, ACB. It has aged much better than the game that only came out the year before, and I had a great time with it, but it is definitely not faultless.

Im onto Revelations, now, and eh... we'll see if it gets better than my (replayed) first impressions.

Im oddly excited for 3, though.

Got gold rank for Blessed Are The Peacemakers in RDR2, which is IMO the mission that marks the beginning of Arthur’s true physical decline. I made sure to keep a separate save beforehand so it’s not depressing if I ever go back to playing free roam with him. I also now have over half the golds required, but might go back to Chapter One and see if I can get the couple tough ones I’m missing up to this point. I’d like to have 40 golds leading into Chapter Four.

The next mission, A Short Walk in a Small Town, has a tight time requirement but at least it’s a really short mission, appropriately enough. Then the last two for Chapter Three should be pretty fun and easy, as they weigh heavily in the narrative and securing the game’s most interesting camp site before things really go to hell.

I think it's better than Crash 1. The movement feels slightly less stiff, and the gameplay more forgiving, but still challenging. The ground pound is unneeded, the slide is finnicky, but it does keep in with the "easier, but fair" approach. The warp room is also far easier to navigate than the old islands in terms of time spent. Also, the bosses are a pushover.

So, I guess if we're comparing Crash 1 and Crash 2, you have a choice of a more hardcore game on the one hand, albeit with worse controls, or a softcore game on the other with easier controls. So far, preferring the latter.

Don't open the spoiler if you don't want to know about Warped. In my experience, the trend continues into the third game, with the levels being easier, the controls being better, and the extra moves being even more unnecessary (at least until you try to 105%.) Though there are a couple of levels, namely the vehicle levels, that'll probably require multiple attempts to finish. Still, the graphics and level themes are even better with the whole time-travel plot, so it's got that going for it.

Finished Resident Evil 3, with a surprisingly low E rank.

In a lot of ways, Resident Evil 3 is a natural evolution of 2: even more action, more mechanics, more weapons, and finally getting to explore Raccoon City proper instead of just seeing it as a backdrop. But at the same time, only having one character and basically one route through the game kind of limits it, despite the choices and the randomized elements. Calling it 'more of the same' as 2 isn't entirely accurate, but if you liked that game, you'll probably like 3 as well. It's not the best of the original trilogy, though; I'd still give that to 2, and it definitely won't change your mind if you already didn't like fixed-camera-tank type games.
