Personally, I've never had an issue with the way that the game ended. And im pretty sure that after the Extended Cut and Citadel DLCs were released, everybody pretty much calmed down.
I was fine with the ending as well, it wasn't great, but it was far from the festering dumpster fire that everyone made it out to be, when they had their internet temper tantrums, flinging shit everywhere.

Even with the DLC, they still hated the series though, and would still shit on it, mostly due to just the ending. Which is why I find it funny that people are excited about the legacy thingy. I mean, it's still the same series, with the same ending, that was apparently shit back then, and would, in theory, still be shit now. But hey, new paint job, and the booby physics will make the cringy sex scenes more exciting for people who don't know about pornhub I guess. Yay? Just seems stupid to me.

I mean, the ME fandom wasn't a collective borg, some people hated the ending and aren't interested in this, some people were fine with the ending and are interested in this.

I never actually played ME3 because the ending got so much backlash. I'd be very interested in actually playing through the trilogy to see for myself.

Hum, gameplay improvement for ME1 sound too limited, it need a full overhaul to bring it more in line with 2 and 3. I might pick it up one day, but I just can't bring myself to pay 60$ for that, ME3 really burn most of my enthusiasm for the franchise. Also doesn't mention the MP, for an included multiplayer of a mainly single player game it wasn't pretty good.

Surprise they didn't include Andromeda, I mean, why not?
Yeah, I'm in a similar situation. I like the setting, and I love Mass Effect 2, but the first installment is a slog that sold itself on setting and the promise of multi-game CYOA experience. ME3 probably had the best gameplay, but the story was easily the least consistent of all three installments, with some pretty nice high points (Tuchanka, Rannoch), but some pretty abysmal low points. There's the new antagonistic GMPC in Kai Leng. There's the framing of everyone sequestering themselves rather than creating a united front in the final act of the trilogy (which is just plain terrible pacing), conflict for conflict's sake like the Salarians prioritizing the Genophage over surviving the Reapers, padding the story by making Cerberus the central villains of the game and thereby making the Reapers still mostly feel like a distant threat, the dream sequences (hamfisted at the best of times, but downright perplexing for a Shepard with a background in which they saw their friends and family slaughtered on Mindoir, lost their squad to a Thresher Maw, and/or were renowned as a brutally ruthless leader who literally sent 3/4s of the soldiers they served with to their deaths...but oh no, the apparent death of this one child during the initial Reaper incursion just haunts Shepard *eyeroll*). And then, of course there's the ending in which the central conflict of "not getting killed by the Reapers" got shelved in literally the last ten minutes to try and convince you that the real issue that had to be addressed was that different races synthetics and organics are just too different to get along and that the real solution was to - as the Illusive Man suggested not five minutes earlier - use the Reapers and their technology to magick up a solution.

Really, I don't think Mass Effect needed a remaster so much as it needed a remake with a more consistent gameplay design philosophy and a better roadmap for the overarching story. As much as I maintain that ME2 is the best installment for its character focus and final mission, I also happily concede that narratively it floundered about, only really existing to foreshadow the Reapers' motives by dropping a few references to Dark Energy (with Haestrom in particular implying that it was accelerating the heat death of the universe)...which Mass Effect 3 then completely dropped in favor of a half-baked 'Zeroth Law' motive, leaving ME2 as contributing virtually nothing to the overall narrative. Point being that if the devs want to recapture my interest, they need to show me that they can run a tighter ship.

The collection is priced at $60, and I feel that's where a lot of people would be hesitant before buying it.
It's a fair price. It's three games, after all. So it comes down to $20 per game. If they released the games individually at that price point people would hardly be able to criticize them.

The Dark Energy thing was dropped - as I recall it - because some doofus at BioWare leaked it OR as a panic response when they discovered someone had figured out their endgame and vomited their opinion on to YouTube. Which is a shame.

That said though if you’re only gonna have buy in for some kind of Final Fantasy VII remake then based on what I’m seeing you should just let this fade from your mind because its not going to be that.

Welp, it looks kinda promising. If you go over to their website, this collection will feature
  • All three games in one launcher
  • More customization for Shepard
  • upscaling the graphics to 4k
  • Gameplay fixes for the first Mass Effect
  • All dlcs included
  • and more!
The collection is priced at $60, and I feel that's where a lot of people would be hesitant before buying it. For me, I think I would wait for sales. This is still EA we're talking about and Bioware certainly has seen beter days
$60 for three games, which can clock in at 60+ hours per run, and all their extra content bar Pinnacle Station because it’s corrupted or damaged is a fucking steal. It would need to actively harm my PC to be seen as a bad buy.

I did not mean to imply that I was somehow on the fence about this. I'm under no delusions that a remaster is aptly summed up as a 'fresh coat of paint'. My intention was to express that as I already own the games and am acutely familiar with their flaws, a fresh coat of paint is not sufficient for me to pull out my wallet again.

Remind me of this if the headlines after the launch go something like "Steam removes ME Legacy edition from the store after countless users' hard drives get corrupted"

Full remake would be great, keep ME1 story same but update gameplay, keep ME2 cast but change story so its actually relevant and throw most of ME3 out (especially Kai Leng). I still find it fascinating that ME2 is all about recruiting a team but everyone who wasn't in ME1 get kicked out for ME3, imagine an ocean eleven movie where they spend the first half of the movie recruiting a team and then they just never show up in the second half.

My biggest hope for this release are bug fixes.

In Mass Effect 2 in particular you have to walk on eggshells to get certain scenes to properly play. No matter what I do the ending of Jack's loyalty mission is bugged and just skips straight to the cutscene even if you decide to stay and check out the room as an example.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing how they tweak ME1's gameplay. That's the game in the series that needs the most work.

Also default ME3 Femshep in all three games is something I've wanted for years and didn't feel like messing around with mods in order to get.

I can ditch Kai Leng but you discard Tuchunka and Rannoch at your peril.

I love everything about the Tuchanka and Rannoch sections of the game.

Also, Kai Leng is hands down the worst villain in the series. Still can't believe they had him
kill Thane.

Man, I have never stabbed the renegade interrupt button as hard as I did the first time I saw it when he was about to try and backstab Shep. He might be a terrible (narratively and meta) character but getting to gut him like a sturgeon was almost the most satisfying kill in the game.

Just a prediction (based on how bad the Cyberpunk 2077 launch was). In my best days I'm 30% on the money.
Well I’m personally prepared to take the chance - EA put out games that are bland, that are loaded with bullshit or just plain crap but they seldom put out one that fails utterly to function - but I don’t blame anyone else for being slightly more cautious with their money.

Oh without a doubt one of the best and most satisfying Renegade interrupts in the game. Right behind punching that Quarian Admiral in the gut.

Wow, Jennifer Hale is over the moons with the trailer!

In case anyone didn't know, she voiced female Shepard in all three ME games. She is probably one of my favorite VAs in both gaming and cartoon industries.

More of her work can be found in this video:
