Dragon Age: Origins isn't doing it for me. Should I keep going?

Yeah, ^ this would be my advice as well. Stuff happens, story progresses, yadda yadda yadda, but if you're already finding it a boring grind then that's not going to change.

Rumor: No Single-Player DLC Coming for Mass Effect: Andromeda

I wonder if this hasn't been in the back of their minds the whole time, given they knew what a disaster the main game development had been and they made a point of saying there wouldn't be a "season pass" at launch time. That was generally taken as a good thing for fans, but it also meant they...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

They're also basically absent on Havarl, and Elaaden... and H-047c if I remember correctly (haven't done that one on the second playthrough yet - and acknowledge it's a smaller world than the others). That's four of the seven major worlds (ie: well over half the game) where they're basically...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

Yeah just to be clear, I like the premise of ME:A a lot and the way it plays I think suits quite well a game where you're dumped in the middle of a galaxy you know nothing about and have to work out how you're going to make a home there. "Build a home for an entire race of people" is hardly an...

What game made the biggest impression on you as a child?

Ultima VI for me. There were other games I played earlier, both on the Sega Master System and the PC, but none of them influenced the kind of games I still play to this day (RPGs with involved stories) as much as my first Ultima game.

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

I know - heresy, right? ;) Agree 100% with everything else you've said, and the story was the first thing I had in mind when it comes to the things Andromeda did worse. Which is a shame. Saren/Sovereign was obviously a great antagonist in the first ME game, and Andromeda is severely lacking...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

When you say "earlier ME games" though, what do you mean? There's only been four of them, so it's gotta be either 1 or 2, right? 2 was the game that moved furthest away from the RPG style (at least in a gameplay sense) and focused on being a pure cover-based shooter. If that was ME at its...

Tim Schafer Says Double Fine Will "Someday" Make Brutal Legend 2

Is a sequel really something people are asking for?!? As someone who enjoys the music and recognised/appreciated the cameos in the first game, I didn't think it needed a sequel... and the gameplay on its own didn't warrant one. Plus no Lemmy this time around would be a downgrade. But I...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

I'm not really sure that 1 or 3 apply to ME:A either. From the publisher side, it's pretty clearly the multiplayer (with the accompanying microtransactions) that's the bit EA forces them to include, not the open world thing. Their sales expectations were based on what ME:3 did, and that was...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

Sure, they made plot decisions to justify / cover over only spending a tiny amount of time on those planets. But compare that in the same game to Rannoch and Tuchanka. We got a much better feel for what they were like as planets and places to live because they put more effort into spending...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

FWIW it sounds pretty equal to me - not giving up on procedural worlds soon enough is on Bioware, but forcing them to move to an engine that was going to massively increase development time was on EA.

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

Can't remember where I read it now, but it was as part of the fallout from the Andromeda launch: prior to launch EA expected Andromeda to sell at least as many, if not more, units than ME3. They obviously didn't think the ME3 ending was that big of a deal, and they had market research...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

Yeah but if they'd done that, I suspect they'd still have people hounding them for a "proper" new Mass Effect game too :P I also suspect that even if Bioware had wanted to do that (and there's no indication that they did: it seems from the second ME3 was finished they were planning another ME...

    Andromeda's Troubled Development

I knew Montreal had worked on ME3 add-ons, but I didn't realise the Omega DLC was their baby... that says a lot. Omega had a bunch of weird animation and cinematic bugs as well (remember Aria's big speech where she keeps turning randomly and popping in and out of picture?!?) But I thought it...

What Games have the best "Sense of Speed"?

The Speed Mode sections of Need for Speed: Pro Street did it for me, in that "holy hell one wrong move and I'm gonna go flying into the hills" way.
