Poll: The Last of Us Academic Poll (SPOILERS)

This should just take a second, and any help would be greatly appreciated. So I'm writing a paper for my Honors class on the violence in The Last of Us and exactly how it affects the game's themes and moral statements. I'd like to know which of you fellow Escapists, in the penultimate scene...

    Videogame movies that WOULDN'T work.

Bioshock; namely, the first one. Any kind of spinoff set in Rapture might work pretty well, actually, but a decent movie adaptation of the first game's story would be impossible, as the entire point of the story is the player's interaction.

Poll: Games multiplayer make it more appealing?

Multiplayer shouldn't be required, but it certainly can make a game better. The BioShock series (excluding BioShock 2, because I can, so there) didn't have multiplayer, and turned out pretty much flawless anyways. That said, Assassin's Creed greatly benefitted from multiplayer that actually let...

The best/most memorable/favorable/excitable weapon in any game

It's a simple choice, perhaps, but I'll have to go with the SAS-12 or the double-barreled shotgun from the Uncharted series. They're just shotguns, but more than any other weapon I've ever used in a game, they FEEL powerful. When the enemy flies backwards, it looks like he was actually thrown...

    Poll: Matrix or Inception

I'd have to go with Inception. I think the Matrix is a great movie, but Inception has more of a human touch, and I really appreciate that in my sci-fi action movies.

So, why do people dislike Saints Row the Third anyway?

Saints Row 3 is a lot of fun, but I believe Yahtzee eloquently summed up my biggest problem with it: it's simply "masturbatory." It's a blast to play, but there's no real sense of context or challenge. Yes, it's hilarious to slap people around with a giant purple dildo, but the fact that the...

    Escapist Expo: Gavin's Escapist Expo Q & A

You're a good man, Mud. Much obliged.

    Escapist Expo: Gavin's Escapist Expo Q & A

Definitely not. I keep trying all various permutations of the phrase and it's still not letting me in.

If you could make ONE change to a game, what would it be?

Give Bioshock 1 all the updated and streamlined gameplay of Bioshock 2. Without the whole, you know, Bioshock 2 bit.

"... Because, its faster than Walking!"

I mean, yeah. Pretty much. I remember playing Dragon Age for the first time and instinctively tapping X just to try and make my guy do a little roly-poly.

    Assassin's Creed's future

Maybe one where you play as an assassin? I mean, nothing against the series. It's always highly reliable fun. But honestly, naval battles, historical sightseeing, and huge, pitched battles? Are we a stealthy killer or a more adult version of the Magic School Bus? Forget the flash, forget the...

    Learning new characters/playstyles

I started playing Dragon Age a few days ago, and for the first time in my life, I'm playing as a character class other than the big, strong, damage-dealing thickie. I'm playing as an elven mage, and it's pretty interesting to try and unlearn a lot of ingrained habits. Most importantly, I'm...

    Poorly Reviewed Games You Enjoyed

Dark Void, I think. It never really got higher than "average," but I thought the jetpack added to the cover-based shooting was a blast.

Help Me Make A Game... For Real! (Now Accepting Alpha Testers)

If it's "religious horror" you're looking for, have you ever heard of Lilith? It's the name for a beautiful Babylonian she-demon, and while there are some pretty nebulous mentions of her in the Bible, the idea I find far more interesting is the subsequent Jewish folk tale idea. God created...

Poll: Is Gordon Freeman the greatest character in gaming? Why?

He's not really even a character, is he? Somebody made the comparison with Jack in Bioshock, and I think that's particularly accurate. Obviously, both of them are pretty crucial to their respective plots, but neither have any actual personality or character. They're just blank, empty things with...
