Every JRPG ever. If I remember correctly Game Informer gave Catherine a 6, and I love that game. Also Duke Nukem Forever, which was hated for being too old and cliche. I don't pay attention to reviews since a lot of the games I like review poorly while the next generic AAA game gets 10/10.
At least they give an honest review in the case of a Compile Heart, Gust, ect. game. You know money isn't inflating the score.

Dark Void, I think. It never really got higher than "average," but I thought the jetpack added to the cover-based shooting was a blast.

I'll add my voice to the Alpha Protocol fans. Just got it for £3.50 and it's a gem, despite its flaws. I dont let bugs get in the way when it comes to enjoying games. I could say the same for Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. Awesome game.

Advent Rising

The game had several problems with design yes, but that wasn't the thing the majority of reviewers focused on back then. It basically came down to "it isn't Halo" or "it's a Halo rip-off" when it was absolutely nothing like it.

It was good for what it was, a sci-fi adventure game that allowed you to abuse the hell out of psychic powers(Force Unleashed later took the control scheme from Advent Rising to use with force powers). The game hasn't aged very well now, but that soundtrack will stick with me forever.

Funnily enough one of my first post back in '08 was in a very similar thread. I'll give what I imagine is the same answer: Advent Rising. The game was received so poorly that they cancelled the would-be-stellar sequels. I think the highest review I've seen for it was 7.5ish.

Edit: Looks like someone a couple posts above agrees. See, I'm not the only one!

Well I actually liked Brink. If it weren't for the nearly unplayable lag that the thing was rife with at release I feel more people would have kept on it. It supported interesting styles really well, like my medium medic with two quick slung drum magazine-fed machine guns. Swept an entire area with 120 bullets in seconds then just tossed around revive syringes to all my allies. Fun stuff there.

And (I know this will get hate) But the Army of Two Series. My brother and I adore these games. Sure the dialogue is a bit meat headed but we've played videogames with eachother since we could hold controllers, and not a lot of games had co-op focused play like that series. More games in my opinion need a good co-op focus and not the tacked on stuff we see so often these days or dumb forms added for no reason. (I still can't think of a good reason Dead Space 3 had Co-op)

All the reviews I had seen from it gave it a 5/10 or a 6/10.
Looks like it depends on the platform you choose, I played the PC version with advanced PhysX was a great experience. At least it did well enough for rumors of another sequel. Wonder how that will pan out now that American McGee has moved PC only, free to play model?

Alpha Protocol was really good, fuck the haters.
I can also see the Budokia Tenkaichi series really easily getting shat upon by reviewers but I fuckin' love 'em.
Alpha Protocol? You mean James Bond: The Game? Yeah that was fucking awesome. Add that to my list definitely. Walking into a bar, then IMMEDIATELY dunking an important informant's head off the counter for fuck all reason just solidifys the game was amazing. It's all the little things like that that make it so charming.
Damn straight!
Oh man, and those bosses. Most are... poorly executed, but I love how silly cool they are!

FUCKIN' LOVE IT
you forget the part where you could make your character look like the love-child of Gordon Freeman and Tony Stark.

I LOVED this game, beat it 3 times.

I really liked DNF...
Call me immature but the jokes and humor made me laugh (I still enjoy flinging poop around :D), everything was juvenile but in a fun and good way, shooting was okay, weapons were fun enough to use, difficult enough as well.

Iunno, I just had fun with it which is all I wanted and expected from the game.

Let's see Advent Rising, Alpha Protocol, Legacy of Kain Defiance, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, Mirror's Edge, and I think that is it, or at least that is all that comes to me at the moment. No doubt I'm forgetting something but ah well I can't name them all.

Off the top of my head, SOL: Exodus. I agree it was too short and wasn't as epic as it could have been, but it still provided some great arcade like space combat, something that is very rare these days. Course I did get it on sale for $2.50 but, I may have enjoyed it still even if I paid $10 for it because I am a sucker for space combat.

Shadow the hedgehog. Yeah, it had some good reviews, but overall, it's widely hated as one of the worst games in the series.

And yeah, while the gameplay has a lot of problems and the story and dialogue are absolute [There is no expletive strong enough], I actually really like it.

Even though I recognize it's a terribly made game, I still enjoy playing it form time to time. It's the ideal game for me when I'm in a bad mood, as it scratches both my speedrunning and wreck-everything-in-sight itches at once. I still play it once in a while, although with the release of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, I've found myself coming back to it less and less.

But for some reason I still look back on Shadow the Hedgehog as a good time, I don't know why.
Good to see I'm not alone. :p

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I hate it so much but I love it so much too. I'm not sure how well it did on the critical side, but considering it's buggy and restrictive I'd imagine it didn't do too well. But I see some weird sort of charm to the game, it's something I could play possibly until the end of time.
I agree wholeheartedly. I only got into it this summer, but I'm on my 4rd playthrough already. In the last two months alone I've done 1 and a half playthroughs (finishing my Tremere run, doing a Malkavian run, and starting a Gangrel).

It's freakin FANTASTIC. Awesome characters, great gameplay, good story, incredibly diverse character classes...That game was the shit and still continues to be the shit, especially with the fan patch that fixes the bugs, adds back old content, and CONTINUES TO BE UPDTATED TO THIS DAY.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm a big fan of mirror's edge. Why that game got panned as badly as it did I cannot understand. Yeah, it was a little bit too short, but it had a neat story and the gameplay was pretty damn great.

I am going to get sooooooo much flak for this.
Metroid Other M is one of my favorite games of all time. The game was thoroughly fun from start to finish, with a great and fluid combat system, epic boss battles, and fun environments. I enjoyed the story and found myself keep playing just to see the next twist and turn it was going to take. I also though Samus's characterization of a bounty hunter who has suffered from some emotional trauma from the events in her life to be very original and infinitely more interesting than just another action hero in power armor. The music was great and the atmosphere was very appropriate to the setting. It got me into the Metroid series, something every game of the Prime trilogy failed to do so.
Now it does have its flaws. I do agree Samus's voice actress needed work on her delivery and the switching perspective thing was annoying. But this was the first game in a while to be so much fun and interest me in the game's story and messages behind said stories than any game in recent memory.
Now let the hateful comments commence.

I picked it up on Xbox 360 due to a lower price tag (30 bucks, two weeks past release) + I didn't have my new computer yet.

Also, if there is an Alice 3, it won't be F2P and I HIGHLY doubt it will be PC only.
I guess you can keep hope alive if you try.

A couple of games spring to mind.

Dragon Age 2: There was some lazy level design, and not all the characters were as strong as they could be, and endless waves of enemies hurt the game but I liked the overall look of the game more, and I enjoyed a fantasy game where the main story line was more personal than the world saving tedium of DA:O

Resident Evil 6: The game was ambitious, it really was. It tried to tell four different stories tried to be three or four different types of games, but ultimately it bit off more than it could chew. The game was at its best during the Leon section... when it was busy being an actual resident evil game. It wasn't horrible, but it was, at best, mindless fun.
