I think it was the tension for him- the atmosphere, scrabbling around in the dark with a little flashlight, etc. Haven't played it myself, though I may have to borrow it of him when he's done with it...
GTA IV, which I got for Xmas, and COD:MW2, which I picked up shortly after. Also have Assassins Creed: Brotherhood to finish. Not to mention my pile of shame, the games I've bought but haven't gotten around to playing yet (all of which were picked up on sale.)
Metro 2033. My friend is playing it at the moment, and reports that it's pretty damn scary. Kind of like S.T.A.L.K.E.R meets F.E.A.R meets Fallout meets Doom3, apparently.
Mass Effect 3, Dragon Age II, Batman: Arkham City and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, in roughly that order. Bioshock Infinite looks good too, as does Portal 2.
His comrades were armed and shooting at you. You killed them in a fire-fight. That's not the same as taking someone prisoner and then killing them while they are defenceless.
Besides, Renegade isn't the same as evil, per se.
