Gee, is that a jab at how a lot of JRPG leading figures tend to be members of the Long Sullen Silences Club, Wherein Friendship is Hard-Earned, Genuine but Scarcely Expressed for Fear of Disturbing Appearances of Capability and Edginess?

Or you could just call it the LSSCWFHEGSEFDACE. Or "Lisscewfuhgisseffdayss".

"So... How are you?"

Other than that, the first one to blink twice gets to start the exposition dump...

still needs more belts, I seriously feel there is an under representation of belts in that comic, I mean no one was using one for a headband. this heresy will not stand! worst JRPG ever.

I know right? Not even using belts on the weapons? What is this art direction!?

Also, Rad continues to be adorable. I kind of want a Rad plush now... (Complete with hats, of course.)

I like the over-belted look; a subtle detail that tongue-in-cheek parody's the character design of the franchise.

Yeah, she is nic... I mean he, he! He is totally nice... (sorry. Lightning flashbacks). We all know Rad is pretty good in judging people.

The angst is so thick that even an ice-breaker can't sail through.
So Rad needs a nuclear powered conversation starter?
Just ask one of his companions about his background.
Angsty protagonists always hang around with someone who explains their origins to new people for them.
It makes them more... mysterious!
'Cause it's so painful they can't talk about it.
And they're tormented by the memories which linger as a darkness lodged in their soul like a obsidian dagger made of stygian ice.
Or some bollocks like that.

I find it funny that the brooding angsty protagonist has become a JRPG cliche when it is pretty much exclusive to Final Fantasy and even then just Final Fantasy VIII. IIRC Cloud Strife's original characterization at the start of Final Fantasy VII was cocky and arrogant and a bit of a smart ass. He only got broody and angsty later on when he found out much of his life was a lie, which Square turned into his defining characteristic for some reason.

Well, Cecil in IV spent a good chunk of the game in an emo coma and Terra was there for much of VI. None were hitting the eyeliner and Dashboard Confessional quite like good ol' Squall Leonhart.

You forgot the bit about how all of their memories about their tragic back story are a lie and that they're real a science experiment made by the corporation the antagonist runs. And right as they realize this they're sucked into a time-loop that makes them relive their false-life over and over. :3

My favorite bit of Squall's angst is when they arrive at Galbadia Garden and they're all in that little waiting room....Squall starts thinking about how people refer to dead people in the past tense, gets himself all worked up, then suddenly shatters the silence by shouting out "NO ONE'S GOING TO REFER TO ME IN THE PAST TENSE!!!" before running out of the room...leaving everyone there to just blink and say "......what the fuck?!"

As for Cecil, I wouldn't say he's in an emo coma, really, he just feels remorse over the sins of his past. Really the only part of the game I can recall him actively brooding in is the very beginning when you're at the castle before leaving for the Village of Mist and Rosa comes into your room.

I'll grant you that Terra was a wee bit emo, but could you really blame her? She's an esper-human hybrid with no memory of her past. Humans are terrified of her because she can use magic, so regardless of who she's fighting for she's only seen as a weapon.

To be fair, though, I'd much rather have a brooding emo git as a protagonist than an over-excited, obnoxious dingus like Tidus. :p

I'll give you Cecil, but I don't remember Terra being all that broody or angsty. Nevertheless we're still talking about a cliche that's exclusive to Final Fantasy being associated with all JRPGs.
