I don't know if anyone has said it yet, but...
Indigo Prophecy. It was one of the best games I've played.

It is crazy I agree, but I'm not so sure there has been a continuous increase in the rate of games being released over the years. Games take a lot longer to produce, these days. In the old days, quality games could be produced much faster than they tend to be now. A bigger games market does not imply more games, if most of the market is taken up by generic behemoths.Xanadu84 said:I think this is a little crazy. 1001 games? Lets call the Video Game industry about 25 years old. This is probably VERY conservative for our purposes, since we are talking about games that are MUST PLAY, and these must play games have to be released at around the average rate to be significant. This means that in order to hit 1001, we have to take approximately 40 games from every year, on average. Now I think that each year, there are an even greater number of games being released, so in theory, this year should be the easiest to find even more then the average required to fill the quota. So, can you name 40 games released this year which are MUST PLAY? I'm not sure I could name 40 that I WANT to play. 101 would be much more reasonable.

A fair point. Of course, there is also a much bigger market for games, more people makeing games, and more of a market for good, smaller indie games. I suspect that must play games are coming out faster today then they were, say, 10 years ago. But I can't really back that up. However, the main point I was making is that I'm considering the games industry to be 25 years old for these purposes, and I feel pretty confident in saying that naming must play video games from the late 80's will probably not yield anywhere near 40 per year.oktalist said:It is crazy I agree, but I'm not so sure there has been a continuous increase in the rate of games being released over the years.
