Fifty Shades of Grey Launch Trailer Now Most Watched in History

Universal has announced that the trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey's film adaptation is now the most-watched launch video in history with over 100 million views and counting.

According to Universal, the trailer for the film adaptation of E. L. James' 2011 novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, has made history in its first week as the most-watched launch movie trailer earning over 100 million views across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and other social sites. "Fifty Shades Of Grey trailers are pulling monumental views," claims RelishMix CEO Marc Krazen. Across just the two YouTube channels owned by Universal, the trailer has already passed over 33 million views. The trailer uploaded on Universal's YouTube channel garnered more than 13 million views, while its UK counterpart did even better with close to 20 million views. "Add to that ripped and reposted versions on movie fan channels. It's unprecedented for a film that's six months out," Krazen notes.

As for social media, the trailer fared just as well. Before the 2 1/2-minute teaser was shown officially, the 15-second teaser premiered unannounced on Beyonce's Instagram account (with over 14 million followers) on Saturday, July 19, where it ran up over 443,000 "likes" and over 85,000 comments. When the full trailer dropped on July 24 at 8:15 a.m. ET, it instantly became the most-watched trailer on YouTube that day. It racked up over 98,000 mentions per hour on Twitter and was the no.1 Google-trending topic in the US, Canada, UK, France and Germany. An additional 13 million uploads were viewed on various other platforms including Yahoo, IMDB, and Apple. Aside from that, over 900,000 trailer views from unofficial YouTube uploads were also seen, with Universal saying it got an additional 40 million additional views on Facebook across the studio's domestic and international channels, as well as Beyonce's Facebook page where the vid alone amassed over 446,000 likes, and 222,000 shares.

Fifty Shades of Grey stars Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street) as Anastasia Steele and Jamie Dornan (Once Upon a Time) as Christian Grey, with directorial duties handled by Sam Taylor-Johnson for a February 13, 2015 theatrical release.

In other News: Scientists just discovered that even the mere promise of porn is appealing to internet users. Scientists are baffled by this discovery and are convinced that it will change the way advertising works!

So a badly written Twilight fan fic has got it's own movie. I am surprised that they would make a movie glorifying the abusive relationship that a man forces on a woman.

I have not read 50 shades, but all this talk of porn has rendered me mildly intrigued. (Not enough to read it, or watch the movie). Is it tame? Kinky? Japanese? Weird? Banned in most civilized countries?

Abusive and poorly written.

The only reason anyone read this book was for the turgid and dull sex scenes, that in all likelihood they won't be able to show in their entirety on screen in a major film release.

Tame and borderline hilarious. I can't put my opinion of it into words, so I'll leave you with this:

its weird...because I actually cannot (for the life of me) figure out how it got so popular

and I don't mean that in a "hurr hurr bad twilight fan fic" way...I'm honestly baffled, if not for how badly its written but also because the erotica genre exist beforehand

the only thing I can come up with is one hell of a snowball effect......at one point the "huh whats that?" affect got everyone talking about it..not to mention the "oh lord is it THAT bad? I have to see" thing

to say its badly written is an understatement

I've not read the books, but I'm reliably informed that they're absolutely terrible. The only way this film could be of interest to me is if they go for the NC17 rating, which of course they won't because it's box office poison. It'll never be better than this, anyway.

In support of Gilbert Godfrey, I believe one could extract more genuine eroticism from one of his fabled readings of The Aristocrats than from this dreck.

Is this really going to be an R/ 18 (biggest buget porno ever than Basic Instinct or Wild Things?) since knowing Hollywood they want more cash thus it will be 15 at the most? Yet again they probably are that many people to flogged in watch it as an 18....

So they are not getting Scarlett Johanssen and Christoph Waltz to play the two leads? Why have you lied to me, SNL?

This, kind of blows my mind. I've read a little bit of it, but I was never one to sit and read through an entire book.

While I understand that when talking about sexual fantasies, that we'd want to take things in a more extreme, unrealistic direction. Something more surreal, that wouldn't happen in real life, I don't really think it's right to publish abuse and call it sexy. 50 Shades is straight up coercion and abuse that parades itself as 'BDSM' related when it can't even get the first fucking thing about BDSM right.

I think it was advertised incorrectly, because it's about abuse.

This is some bullshit. Not in the sense I'm saying it's not true, just that it's fucking stupid.

Bad Twilight fan-fic makes the author ludicrously rich, and then gets her a movie deal. How can you even film that book? It's fucking nonsense. Apart from all the sex that they'll have to deftly avoid showing, the whole book is utter shit.

Grey, who is apparently idolised by millions of undersexed women the world over, is one of the most villainous people ever. He's basically a rapist, abusive, manipulative, stalking piece of shit.

I call bullshit. No one thinks this movie is going to be anything but bad twilight fan fiction robbed of the only thing people were interested in in the first place in order to secure the R rating.
Go look at Twitter or Facebook. People (mainly women) are excited for this turd.
