I was going to say.

Crap, I know a couple dozen people who want to see the movie on the premise that Alexis Bledel might get nekkid.

I think it was advertised incorrectly, because it's about abuse.
If they relabeled this, they'd have to relabel the romance genre.

...which would be funny.

So a badly written Twilight fan fic has got it's own movie. I am surprised that they would make a movie glorifying the abusive relationship that a man forces on a woman.
Equally surprised that Beyonce provided the song for the trailer. I'm pretty sure she doesn't know what the movie is about other than it is popular with women. I'm just going to wait here with a bowl of popcorn to see this blow up in her face.

You know what baffles me more? People saying "badly written Twilight fan fiction". Makes me question if there's some good Twilight fan fiction out there...

The only reason anyone read this book was for the turgid and dull sex scenes, that in all likelihood they won't be able to show in their entirety on screen in a major film release.
I've not read the books, but I'm reliably informed that they're absolutely terrible. The only way this film could be of interest to me is if they go for the NC17 rating, which of course they won't because it's box office poison. It'll never be better than this, anyway.
I see your Gilbert Gottfried, and I raise you Charles Dance.

I have not read 50 shades, but all this talk of porn has rendered me mildly intrigued. (Not enough to read it, or watch the movie). Is it tame? Kinky? Japanese? Weird? Banned in most civilized countries?
Tame and borderline hilarious. I can't put my opinion of it into words, so I'll leave you with this:

Meh, I say to go with this review (and the subsequent sequel reviews) instead:

OT: I watched the trailer to see how bad it'd be, all the while pretty much praying that the film will get a PG-13 rating (which will never happen because the movie would only be 30 minutes long). My boyfriend and I actually considered going to the theater to see it since A.) It's gonna be bad 2.) It comes out on my birthday.

I don't know jack shit about 50 Shades, but judging from some of the reactions here, it seems like an awful, abusive sex filled movie.
Which is why nobody should be shocked by the number.

How many do you think were just seeing how bad it could possibly be?
Not enough.

I call bullshit. No one thinks this movie is going to be anything but bad twilight fan fiction robbed of the only thing people were interested in in the first place in order to secure the R rating.
And if you actually talk to any of the people who are fans of the book (ie: ridiculous numbers of women), you'll find that this is not the case. The women I know who were into the book are still very much interested in the movie, either in spite of the reductions to make the R rating, or in ignorance of it.

I thought that 50 Shades was just bad, but I didn't know any of the details.

The trailer, if anything, makes the story look depraved, and reflects badly on the author. I mean, a person who just uses others for sex being the main love interest is f**ked up. Since the writing of the source material is abysmal, this looks like it might not even turn out a "ha-ha, it's so bad" movie, but more of a "oh god this is so bad, why does it exist" movie.

The fact that it comes out on Valentine's Day doesn't make it better either. I mean, Twilight was already pretty damaging to easily-influenced people, but this is bordering on smut-peddling territory. I believe in the lack of restriction for art, but this still feels like it should be regulated somehow, or at least have a warning label attached to it.

I mean, even The King in Yellow had some warnings saying "this book here contains f**ked-up s**t, be warned, reader, for you venture into madness".

its weird...because I actually cannot (for the life of me) figure out how it got so popular

and I don't mean that in a "hurr hurr bad twilight fan fic" way...I'm honestly baffled, if not for how badly its written but also because the erotica genre exist beforehand
Couldn't agree with this more.

The only thing I can think of is that it had just enough weirdness that it got pushed slightly into the mainstream, which resulted in people who haven't been exposed to erotica going all gaga over it since it was something they had never seen. Then add on all the parody's since it's badly written. I don't know though. Doesn't make any sense to me.

It's porn. That's all it is. It's a Twilight story where the pale boring guy ties up the pale boring girl and does naughty things to her. It's utterly generic if you've ever read any erotica online or otherwise.

Something more surreal, that wouldn't happen in real life, I don't really think it's right to publish abuse and call it sexy.
To be fair, some men and far more women find it very sexy, abuse or not. It didn't get popular just because the bad writing is funny.

If the movie itself gets more viewings than the launch trailers then something is wrong with existence itself. It's completely possible though.

Based on the content (or at least the fragments that I was exposed to), I suspect that many fans of this book masturbate while reading the book.
There might be a lot of moaning among the audience during screenings of this movie, just saying.

This is some bullshit. Not in the sense I'm saying it's not true, just that it's fucking stupid.

Bad Twilight fan-fic makes the author ludicrously rich, and then gets her a movie deal. How can you even film that book? It's fucking nonsense. Apart from all the sex that they'll have to deftly avoid showing, the whole book is utter shit.

Grey, who is apparently idolised by millions of undersexed women the world over, is one of the most villainous people ever. He's basically a rapist, abusive, manipulative, stalking piece of shit.

Go look at Twitter or Facebook. People (mainly women) are excited for this turd.
No. No basically. He IS a rapist. He forces himself on the female lead without her consent and while she was drunk. Textbook rape. He even pulls the bullshit "Well you enjoyed it, so it can't be rape" excuse.

Finally brought myself to actually watch the trailer:

-I saw the first scene with Grey's face already knowing what the actor looked like and yet there was something derpy about his gaze that made me burst out laughing.

-The big, important soundtrack to all of this is a retread of a Beyonce' song from 11 years ago? Coupled with the main actor barely having a resume' after others had turned down what is guaranteed to be a career-making role and the whole thing reeks of cheapness.

-I have never seen a sex scene built up to that level - it's like if an Avengers 2 trailer were building to Ultron's reveal: you know it's coming but actually getting to that point is the drop in the rollercoaster ride so to speak.

The whole thing I find ironic about the "he's a monster" bit everyone seems to agree on is that, in essence, this is about what a vampire should be - seductive yet cruel, a wraith that preys on the weak and cares only about satisfying his hunger.

Heard a hilarious rumor that they're going to be pushing for PG-13. I honestly have no idea what they think they can put in the movie to manage that...

Well if they released the beyonce (Crazy in Love) remix separately, I wouldn't have watch the damn trailer so many times.
