In this version Cloud is killed by Sephiroth. It'll causes a different fandom reaction where a bunch of MRAs & Feminists will then turn the whole remake into a PC issue. This will then soon be followed by a Lightning skin for Aeris.
...That would be so ridiculous, that I'd probably play the FF7 remake. (sans the Lightning skin, because fuck Lightning)
So...hypothetically, what would a reversal of fates accomplish?
In the original FF7, thematically, Aeris is the world's metaphorical savior (or redeemer).
But by having Cloud die instead, she becomes its literal LIVING savior as well.
Sephiroth previously blocked her from reaching the planet to unleash Holy; so it's safe to say that he can fuck with anyone trying to return to the planet (or heaven, or "The Promised Land"); metaphorically making him the Devil.
And if Aeris is metaphorically "Christ"...oh wow.
That actually kinda fits, and gives her added incentive to save the planet herself. It makes a plot hole, where Holy cannot activate, but that can easily be worked around since ol' Sephy is at the planet's core already.
Hilarious.
It would never, EVER happen, but it's not as bad an idea as it seems.

All in all, I am just hoping that the remake makes things more consistent with the Compilation.
That's actually the reason I didn't want a remake in the first place: I hate the Compilation, for taking FF7 and turning it into a fancier CGI version of DBZ.
Showboating a bit in game is fine, I love the limit break attacks, but the characters struggles seem more grounded when they can't just jump 300 feet at will and chop an entire floor of a building in half like a superhero.
(or worse, in Dirge of Cerberus' case, where Vincent seems to gain and lose those abilities whenever the director says so; even FF7's most absurd attacks didn't actually have in-story representation like they do in the Compilation)
