edit: hmmm...
I hear a lot of people saying that people are going to point towards violent videogames as a cause... but I dunno, I think in a way it could be blamed on video games, actually, but not in the way that violent video games specifically has caused this...
I have more of a feeling that this is a really really serious case of addiction to video games, coupled with some serious psychological issues.
The problem, I think, doesn't lie in the fact that said video game was violent or not, but just by the fact that he obviously wanted it so badly that he would kill his own father for it. People shouldn't just use it as another excuse to try and ban video games... We need to work out how the child got into such an emotional state, and furthermore how he got so addicted to the thing in the first place. Just trying to ban the games won't work - such a thing won't happen anyway. What can happen, and I would like to see happen, is analysis on what kind of behaviour we need to look for, and how we can help the person affected by the video games before he/she turns violent and/or starts to neglect their day-to-day needs like sleep, food, etc.
