This kid must have had some serious mental issues before hand, and playing for a solid week is gonna screw anyone up a bit. I'm NOT saying violent video games are the cause, but if this kid had some preexisting mental condition or at the very less anger management issues violent video games would not improve his mental condition. 14 is a bit young for some of these games, and while yes a lot of 14 year olds play these games fine and none of the violence affects them, you recon this kid would have said "why yes these violent games are making me more angry and violent." of course not. He wouldn't have noticed, he would have simply said that they weren't affecting him. now I'm not saying every 14 year old will be affected by violent games like this, but some are. But in the end, in this case i think its a bit of bad parenting, letting him play for a solid week is mental. Also i believe there should actually be more active enforcement of the game ratings or some way to make sure the parents know the EXACT content of some of these games. albeit i don't know how this could be done.

Yeep, you are both right baby tea and jaded scribe...
I wonder how long the world will ignore all these accusations against violent video games?
even though I don't want it to happen. eventually... "something" will happen.
Video games are the flavor of the week (or generation in this case) comic books, RPGs, and rock music (of various flavors) have all had their time "in the son".
Erm, bit of a Freudian slip, there.

OT: What is there to say that hasn't been said? Kid's a bit...disturbed...for one reason or another, and the game he was playing had nothing to do with it. And the fact that the game hasn't even been mentioned yet is a good sign, I think.

A sledgehammer? To the head? Sledgehammers hit hard, at that point I believe the correct term at that point would be "-what remains of his father's head".

Disturbing stuff.

Why does video game insanity always come from China or Russia?
Because insane [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95710-Drunken-Father-Kills-Son-Missing-Videogame-Blamed]?

I don't know, but I wouldn't classify a couple of recent stories as "always", especially not when compared to the frequency this sort of thing occurs in countries that aren't China or Russia.
yeah but americans have a good sense of grabbing a gun and going into high school then shooting as much people as...

hang on...

because Jack Thompson and Clinton looks at other countries first with their feeble excuses for "arguments", hell take a look at yourselves.

i'm good, scotlands not had many of these incidents, if any related to video games. *twitches* yeeeeeeeet....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger << that was blamed on Childs Play (yeah the crappy movie which they had seemingly watched the night before)

seems more deeprooted withinin any (read HUMAN not american, chinese, english etc) individual... just the majority don't snap, and take a freaking sledgehammer to their dads face twice. With their mom going

"here's the keyboard, i'm just going to phone gran... "

looks like taking away the keyboard made him snap, nothing at all about the game he was playing... he probably killed his dad in a rage dream like state... returned to his "happy place" back at the computer. Wasn't a case of wanting to play the computer, he simply NEEDED too... that isn't good either though.

i know they can take away reality but they shouldn't be wholey substituted as such - alarm bells should have rang sooner. (like having to take away the freaking keyboard)

Seriously, this is happening waaaaaaaaay too often, and it always gets pinned on us. Well, when this kid is locked up, there'll be one less fucking crazy on the streets...
I don't even care enough to ask what loot he got.

It's psychos like this that give gamers such a bad reputation. News like this makes me lose more and more faith in humanity. It just proves that humans are evil.

Congratulations! Not only did you manage to stereotype 11 million mostly-harmless people, you've also managed to jump to a conclusion not hinted at in any part of the text! You deserve a medal for that outstanding work, you really do. [/sarcasm]

"HEADSHOT!" hahahaha...haha...ha....nothing? It was a little funny:)

But seriously, agreeing with most above statements this is just fuel for 'Gameocalypse', its not gonna change.. and as long as we're on the topic there are some pretty fucked up people in the World......of Warcraft. "So you can just...hit someone in the head with a sledgehammer all day, or you can sit at your computer and do something that matters!"

Something like that happened recently in Vienna. A 14-year old girl killed her mother with a knife because she had forbidden her to surf the Internet.

Here's a link: http://www.monstersandcritics.com/news/europe/news/article_1548138.php/Viennese-girl-kills-mother-after-internet-ban
It may be a coincidence that both kids were 14, but I am seriously thinking about staying away from any kid that looks 14.

It could be an apocalyptic virus that effects 14 year-olds and makes them go crazy. If you know anybody that is 14, watch your back.

Tabernac... I've heard of some crazy shit goin' down in situations like this and such (Who hasn't?) but I mean, twice in the head with a sledgehammer to kill him? That's fucking insane!
