My only comment is: A 14 year old boy manage to hit his dad with a sledgehammer TWICE? Without any retaliation by the father or the mother. I mean, a sledgehammer's heavy. And I don't think a 14 year old boy that spent a week doing nothing but play video games is very strong.

I would add grievances for the family and shocked comments about how our world is going to hell, but these things simply happen way too often for me to be shocked by these things anymore.
That last sentence worries me deeply...

Also, I told this story to a few friends, they all said the kid should get help then be released with no jail time... Are you fucking serious? A kid kills his dad, the man who gave him life, with a SLEDGEHAMMER because he took his keyboard away, and you think you should get special attention and be treated nicely like he's retarded or experienced somethin extremly traumatic like the slaughtering of your whole family happenin right before your eyes? Uh-uh, noooooo way, give that kid the chair. The only part of this story that made me happy was that he was tried as an adult, I mean, if he were here in America, they'd try him as an adult, but they'd give him like 40 years instead of life, cause he's a kid. That's no damn excuse for something like this.
Why does it worry you? It seems like two weeks can't pass without finding a story like this? Would you argue these incidences are still rare? Or would you argue that we should still be shocked by these atrocities after they are paraded before us by the news on a bimonthly basis?

Neither. It worries me that we've reached the point where it's a daily thing, sometimes twice a day.

Saw this in another site.
It mentioned that he was Russian and then all the smartass racist pigs who don't even know WTF is the invasion of Normandy started kicking in.
I felt good after giving them a public - yet sadly only virtual embarrassment

All we need now is to find out junior was playing Halo 3 or Left 4 Dead 2. I get grouchy if I only get 3 hours sleep a night. This nutjob needs to be put down. At least he's old enough to be tried as an adult

I find myself losing more and more empathy for 'Disturbed children' with every one of these articles I read.

I hate this kid. I really hope he is executed (And, being Russia, I can totally see that as possible) I don't care how young he is, he is a monster and is not fit to live. If he thinks that the life of his father, or any human life for that matter, is worth less than a keyboard he is nothing short of an savage and brutal animal and should be dealt with as such. That is unless there was some sort of horrid abuse on the part of the father, in which case I could totally see his reaction as understandable.

It's the one Keyboard to rule them all!

LotR references aside, He was obviously very unstable, and video games may have been his form of escapism, the taking away of which, without solving the original problem, led to the worst.
The kid wouldn't even really need to be naturaly disturbed if he had a terrible private life, and parents these days being as unobservant as they are once their kids reach the age of 10, probably never had any idea their son was going through so much. Although it's just as possible he was born that way.

Well you've got to blame the parents for raising, and then failing to recognise that their son was, a sociopath.

I'd imagine any abusive father with any sense wouldn't allow his kid to spend all day online possibly telling everyone about what his dad does, but I could be wrong.

Almost completely off topic tho, I remember being a kid and my mother coming in and just turning the console off with a 'right you, bed!'

I wish parents would get some education about how these things work and at least offer 10 minutes 'getting to a save point' time.

I in no way think losing your place in a video game warrants murdering your father however, I just hate the ignorance that switching off a console is the same as switching off a toy train or the like. Especially when just yanking the power on a PC can cause damage.

Of course, if you give em the 10 minutes to finish up, and they don't, yank away, they'll learn soon enough.

Craziness like this happens a lot more than you think. It's just not all of it involves computers and gaming. People kill people for all kinds of (sometimes stupid) reasons.

I get the impression that the kid involved in this was also a complete nut for the lack of a better word and there's a bit more to this story than the media is letting on. Taking away a gamer's keyboard is akin to taking away a surfer's keyboard or something. The sane surfer won't be happy with you, but he won't kill you for it.

The kid was just dangerously unstable.

The way i look at it is, if he went straight back to the computer after killing someone imagine what he would be like if there was no computer at all.

I like my games and I've been known to play through the night, but a whole week? That kid's just plain nuts.
2 weeks of sleep deprivation was enough to get labrats to chew their own limbs off, God alone knows what that does to a person.

I hope he wasn't playing a game in which you kill things with sledge hammers. Otherwise this could end up being a big thing in the media, who will of course ignore the reason he reacted and was playing so much anyway which is likley to do with his parents.
