Ryan Reynolds to Play Green Lantern

It's been confirmed that TV and film actor Ryan Reynolds will play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Riddle me this, what does Deadpool have in common with the Green Lantern? The answer is that they are both going to be played by Ryan Reynolds in movies released in 2011. The confirmation came on Friday that Reynolds had beaten other contenders Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto to the superhero role.

Reynolds will play Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern, and is the first person to star in movies based on both DC and Marvel titles. The Green Lantern film is being directed by Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, and is scheduled to start filming in January.

Reactions to the announcement have been mixed, as some worry that Reynolds, who is mostly known for comedic roles, isn't a great fit for the role of the dignified and serious Hal Jordan. Personally, I prefer Kyle Rayner anyway.

I would have preferred Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan myself, I could see Reynolds as a better Kyle. However I am sure he will be more than adequate.

I find that he could be a good fit but only if he plays it seriously (as in he looks the part a little in my opinion). However I agree with Simriel that Nathan Fillion would be better since he can be dignified and he can also be serious. Plus he's damn cool in Firefly.

But optimism only gets me disappointed. I mean cmon they couldn't even do a Wolverine movie with out messing it up. (Maybe he'll have a good video game though)

Seriously - I'm just glad they didn't go to will smith or something. I hated when they tried to make the super heroes more ethnically diverse.

I think Reynolds might be able to do something with this. Or he might not. Either way, his wife is gorgeous and that has to count for something in this world. The bastard.

I think that they might introduce some development in Hal Jordan as a character. You know, he becomes more serious as it continues.

Really though, I'm skeptical about the Green Lantern movie. We'll see when it comes out if it can hold a candle to Iron Man.

completely disagree, i had a blast with that game. i just skipped all the story parts after hugh jackman forgot that wolverine wasn't australian in one cutscene.
