Modern Warfare 2's Launch Trailer is Really Badass

With the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 just around the corner, Infinity Ward has released one final trailer to promote the game's single-player campaign and get itchy trigger fingers twitching in anticipation.

Who knew that the sweet musical strains of Marshall Mathers fit so well with scenes of carnage and destruction? I sure didn't.

Lately, it seems that there's been quite a storm of controversy around Infinity Ward's massively anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but said controversy has been solely aimed at one of the most eagerly-awaited titles of all time [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95594-Infinity-Ward-Responds-to-Modern-Warfare-2-Controversy].

The above trailer showcases scenes from the single-player campaign, and I have to admit that even as someone who probably wasn't going to pick up the game right away, it's looking pretty awesome. I think that this trailer's particular strength is that it shows fast and furious combat in a huge variety of settings and situations. There's urban combat in what looks like a bombed-out developing nation, there's suburban combat in the streets of the U.S.A. (but we knew that already), there's fighting in snow, in the desert, bombarding what looks like a medieval fortress, and it goes on from there.

There is one bit that has me scratching my head, though: At 0:57, there's a very brief sequence that unmistakably takes place beyond Earth's atmosphere. I'm assuming that it's just a cutscene of sorts, because even a guy like Soap MacTavish probably has no business being out in space. It does make me wonder about the context of the scene, and why we'd be messing around with satellites in Earth orbit instead of gunning down bad guys on the ground.

Guess we'll find out in less than a week.

saw this yesterday, and it looked pretty cool. i do, however, still doubt i will buy it after IW´s cockslap on the PC gamers.

edit: oh, and btw John, the space thing is presumeably a level in the Internation Space Station (which would be pretty awesome).

Infinity Ward seems to be striving for "Most Cinematic Game Ever" here, and personally, i think they've done it... I was going to wait till i renewed my Live subscription to get this, but right now I'm think about getting just for the single player.

...I don't get how that would work. Not only is the ISS actually pretty teeny, but something about shooting guns in such a small space where you absolutely do not want a hull breech strikes me as a bad idea...

Since when was Infinity Ward stopped from making awesome scenes by something as petty as logic?

I saw this the other night.
it looked pretty sweet.
Now i really wish i had a 360.
The only thing that worries me is, how are they going to make a level work in space?

maybe the space station has something to do with the russian missles that can shoot down satalites?? could be the start cut scene. what starts it all of. or maybe a fail mission cut scene as i cant see it having a level on the ISS. realy small and made of tin foil in space... bullets are bad.

My guess is that the space level might be that one extra mission after the main game. You know, where they can try experimental ideas without the constraints of a story.

Clearly space-ghost pirates of all the innocents you mercilessly slaughter at that airport come back and capture a space station, and you're sent to to take care of them.

Meh. If I remember correctly from the last Call of Duty games I have played, most of the awesome things happening are cinematic in nature. So the game itself is pure run/cover and gun, right? So I am just as impressed as always by this game. Which means I am not impressed at all.
Much rather want Men of War after reading the article here yesterday. Now that is an impressive war-game! But I don't have money for it... so damn you Escapist! *shakes fist*
