Sony Motion Controller Gets a Truly Outrageous Name

Word has slipped out that Sony's new PlayStation [http://www.playstation.com] motion controller will be called Gem, a name that industry observers around the world are saying is truly, truly, truly outrageous.

The beans were spilled by Microsoft [http://www.ea.com] have announced new controllers. Motion sensor controls, Natal and Gem, these are likely to bring new consumers into the marketplace."

Many analysts have said the name is both exciting and adventurous, while one industry executive who wished to remain anonymous claimed it was "glamorous [and] fashionable" and could bring considerable new fame to Sony's console. "No one else is the same," he added.

Excitement over the newly-christened controller isn't entirely contagious, however; Microsoft has issued a statement affirming its commitment to the rival Natal controller, which it believes is a superior technology. "We're Microsoft!" the company said. "Our controller is better!"

Kotaku [http://www.us.playstation.com/]. "We haven't announced [the] final name at this point."

Ah well. It was truly outrageous while it lasted.

Wait, how is that name so outrageous? I kinda like it actually... short, snappy, remeberable... certainly better than 'six-axis' in my opinion.

That looks like something I saw on Ann Summers' website.

Have I missed some kind of meme or anything that explains why "Gem" is outrageous? Help me out here, I hate being left outside with this kind of stuff.

Ha! I beat you to both the story and the joke! Go me!

On topic, I'm just going to call it the PS3mote regardless of what the actual name is.

Still not as bad as the Wii, and that's not even their final name.

And Natal isn't outrageous? Wii isn't outrageous? Hell this isn't even the final name for the motion controller.

Why's the name 'outrageous'? I don't get it.

It's a shame Sony had to follow the leader and make a motion based controller as well. I (most likely) won't get it, regardless of what it's called...

Let me start off by saying that I love your music, mr Sinatra.

Could "Gem" be some kind of street-slang for the tip of the penis?

Jem [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_%28TV_series%29] was a TV Series [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jem_%28TV_series%29] in the 90's. I do believe it was a catch-phrase in the show, but to be honest my knowledge of it comes from Robot Chicken ("Was Jem truly outrageous? Truly, truly, truly outrageous?")

Edit:
Warning! IT WILL HURT YOUR BRAIN!!
