Harlem Kid Killed While Playing Tony Hawk: Ride

A 9 year old child was killed during an all night gaming session of Tony Hawk: Ride [http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Tony-Hawk-Skateboard-Bundle-Nintendo/dp/B0029TSTAS/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1282154528&sr=1-1] in Harlem, New York.

Anthony Maldonado, 9, was allegedly stabbed to death by a family friend at 3:30am on Saturday, January 2nd. The boy had received a PlayStation 3 for Christmas and was playing with his brothers and his alleged killer, Alejandro Morales, 25. Around 3:30am, after his uncle had gone to sleep and his brothers left the apartment to get some food, Morales is accused of stabbing the boy in the chest. The boy then called out, "Uncle, uncle, I've been stabbed!" before falling in front of the bedroom door. Morales was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

One of the brothers Antonio Juela said, "Anthony was a loving child who loved his PlayStation. He got the PlayStation for Christmas and was very happy. He was so happy."

Despite the boy's grandfather, Antonio Juela, 59, stating "My grandson died over a video game," the Daily News declined to connect the game with the subsequent violent behavior. While there is nothing good about this heart-wrenching story, perhaps we have finally reached a point where the mainstream media resists the gratuitous potshot at our hobby.

Wait, why did he kill him? How, other than he was playing the game, dose this have anything to do with video games?

Give it time, has Fox news run with it yet?

By the time they have finished with the story the kid will have been battered with the controller by Tony Hawk himself

Unbloodylikely. It's an excellent scapegoat, but I think that they're just having trouble linking videogame skateboarding with an obviously separate attack.

nothing at all to do with video games. from the other article i read, i gathered that the game may have just been the catalyst that brought on the episode, although no one really knows why. sounds like the guy was just fuct in the head.

Okay, both Destructoid and Kotaku ran this story in the last 2 days and I rant about it there and you can be sure I will here.

Why the fuck is this posted here. A kid got killed over a stupid fight about a video game. Nobody here blamed the games. A grandfather that just lost his grandson who says "My grandson died over a video game" is no more blaming games than a guy saying "My bros. died over 20$" is blaming money.

Fox News or whoever else don't care! The only people with enough time to waste to talk about stuff like this and to go around screaming that the big bad media will talk against video games are the scared and self-victimizing gamers.

Do economic magazines or websites run a story each time someone is killed over money? No they don't. Guess what people? Not everyone is spending their days trying to link video games to violence. In fact, I bet gamers spend more time doing so than anyone else. Acting so defensive when no attack has been made just give the impression that there is something to hide.

I wait for the day every single gaming magazines stop chasing hits with that kind of story (or boobs, but that's not the Escapist's problem).
