So now frigging Tony Hawk games are being blamed for violence. Seriously, he was playing a game and got stabbed, the two aren't connected. I do feel sorry for the kid though.

By the way, am I the only one who read the title and thought that the game had literally. Now that I think about it I don't even know how that could happen.

I thought he had died attempting to do a trick on the board, you know like he was leaning over doing a trick or something he fell over into some kinda glass coffee table, it seems pretty logical since from what I understand, the board in the game is completely unresponsive.

Okay, both Destructoid and Kotaku ran this story in the last 2 days and I rant about it there and you can be sure I will here.

Why the fuck is this posted here. A kid got killed over a stupid fight about a video game. Nobody here blamed the games. A grandfather that just lost his grandson who says "My grandson died over a video game" is no more blaming games than a guy saying "My bros. died over 20$" is blaming money.

Fox News or whoever else don't care! The only people with enough time to waste to talk about stuff like this and to go around screaming that the big bad media will talk against video games are the scared and self-victimizing gamers.

Do economic magazines or websites run a story each time someone is killed over money? No they don't. Guess what people? Not everyone is spending their days trying to link video games to violence. In fact, I bet gamers spend more time doing so than anyone else. Acting so defensive when no attack has been made just give the impression that there is something to hide.

I wait for the day every single gaming magazines stop chasing hits with that kind of story (or boobs, but that's not the Escapist's problem).

Right, cuz Jack Thompson, Micheal Atkinson, Fux News, and about 90% of the idiots who actually believe them sure arent linking things like, oh i dont know, columbine to Doom.

Me too. I came in figuring that the kid had fell and hit his melon on a table or something and had died from it.

Since that is not the case I am in full agreement with ShadowKirby. If the big media isn't playing the 7 degrees of video game violence then why are we? Unless the escapist plans on making articles memorializing every gamer and person who dies near a game console I don't see why this article was posted. Especially since the Globe and Mail posted this article not so very long ago

I said this in the other article post in the discussion forum and I'll say it here. The article I read as the source of this was so vague that it coulda been talking about anything, but strangely seemed to focus on the fact that the boy was playing a video game.

"My grandson died over a video game!" is completely illogical to say when we have absolutely no evidence that the game was even related. This could have been an extremely random event, which given that they've said the one boy had problems, wouldn't surprise me. For all we know they coulda been knife fighting. There just isn't enough actually stated to reveal what happened. They didn't interview the killer, the whole family sounds confused as to who was who and what was going on. One article even said the brothers were brothers, but not HIS brothers.
