Wait, why did he kill him? How, other than he was playing the game, dose this have anything to do with video games?
"He was a friend. I can't believe this happened," Carlos Juela said. "He doesn't act right on the street but he always minded his manners in the house."
It really doesn't seem to connect to video games. The article itself did not hold any clues as to a motive, but video games are only mentioned as a contextual item. There were other brothers were present prior to the murder but left the 25 year old attacker and the 9 year old victim alone because "They were both so engrossed in the game play."

the Daily News declined to connect the game with the subsequent violent behavior.
Happy opposite day!
LOL^

you beat me to it good sir!

anyway they were having difficulty tying in a subculture (skateboarding) into a videogame and then adding violence.

The key to this story is HARLEM. People get killed for pettier bullshit in that NY ghetto.

So now frigging Tony Hawk games are being blamed for violence.
Yea. I think that it's nonsense. Although I wouldn't be surprised if someone was motivated to anger by the controller for Tony Hawk: Ride :p

Did you even read the article. It says the paper DIDN'T connect the two.

The Daily News Declined! Learn to Read

Too vague. He could of been stabbed for being an illegal immigrant.

By the way, am I the only one who read the title and thought that the game had literally. Now that I think about it I don't even know how that could happen.
I don't know much about Tony Hawk Ride, but I thought that it was one of the active games, where you actually get physical playing the game. So when I read the title, I thought someone was getting rambunctious, and fell while playing the game. I dunno, cracked their skull on a table or some such, and then people were in an uproar cause suddenly being active is dangerous. :p Glad to see it was just a stabbing. (Well, as glad as a person can be in the event that someone has died.)

I was looking for that myself. Games get so much heat, that so much as being killed near one generates gaming violence controversy. :p

Actually, thats what i though, thats the skating game that comes with a board you ride. If he fell of and hit his head or neck right it could have killed him easily.

Still its about fucking time they didn't blame the game. Maybe because the game doesn't have any violence in it they couldn't make a connection...

Isn't blaming Harlem just as narrow minded as blaming Video Games?
Actually, no. Harlem has a real track record of being a far more dangerous place than other areas. Games have no track record of being present in the lives of people involved in violence any more so than in the lives of people in general.

Needless to say, the title was a bit misleading. I was expecting another "gaming killed my kid" story, but this is no less tragic. I feel really bad for this kid, and his family who seemingly only left him for a short time.

I hope there's a follow-up story to this involving the trial and what some sleazy lawyer might pull out of his ass.

I also thought this article would be about an accident involving that stupid controller. Totally was not prepared for a story about child stabbing.

Here I thought he fell off the board and hit his head or something.

But this...this is really depressing...

God damn. The 25 year old shouldn't have killed a 9 year old!

While this is some saddening news, I am glad at the way it was handled. It seems like, for the first time in a while, the news is actually doing what it's supposed to, that is, report the freaking news, rather than trying to pinpoint a target and blame it for everything.

That's really strange, and sad.
I'm guessing the guy who killed the kid lost, and then lost his temper or something...
