NBC's The Cape Trailer Peels Back Its Vigilante Hood

NBC has released a trailer for its upcoming television show starring a caped vigilante, which actually has potential.

The Cape was picked up by NBC for the fall 2010 television schedule Batman [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100698-NBC-Creates-Its-Own-Batman-With-The-Cape]. Now, with The Cape's trailer thrown out of NBC's utility belt onto the internet, we get a better idea of what the show will be like.

When Vince Faraday is framed for murder and believed dead, he becomes superhero The Cape thanks to the training of what look like a band of circus thieves. The coolest thing about Faraday is not that he fights crime wearing a spider-silk cape, but that he reads comics to his kid behind mother's back. This way, mother looks like an ass and dad looks like a hero, long before he becomes one for real.

Any television show that knows the value of a circular explosion gets my attention immediately. The basic premise of The Cape isn't blowing my mind, but the trailer's lack of corny-ness is lighting a fuse. The description of the show didn't quite reveal that Faraday's cape is a super-powered weapon in the right hands, and that Summer Glau (Faraday's partner of sorts) is much more than a "blogger," being all up in the Minority Report [http://www.amazon.com/Minority-Report-Blu-ray-Tom-Cruise/dp/B0035WTJFW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276709386&sr=1-1]-like touchscreen shown here.

A compelling trailer can be cobbled together from anything, so The Cape has yet to prove its longevity. With only a first look though, NBC's next foray into superhero land has piqued my interest.

I love how Minority Report's biggest contribution to the world is in interface design. I mean it was an awful interface; you had no idea what was going on.

Also Vinnie Jones and Mini Me? Sounds like a TV show I'd watch.

It has Vinnie Jones, Summer Glau, and Martin Klebba? (Marty from Pirates of the Caribbean. NOT Mini-me) And the trailer actually looks decent?

I almost don't want to say it based on 3 and a half minutes of trailer, but this could actually be a decent series!

Going to have to keep an eye on this. It looks really interesting. I just have this odd feeling that it's going to do well and then turn into one of those shows where there are fifty conspiracies going on at once. Well if there's one thing that those 3 and 1/2 minutes told me its no not lose hope.

It looks interesting and I will watch just for the no doubt unabashed cornyness that will be a part of the show. Looks good with the right amount of humour.

Looks like one of the few shows I will actually watch. I like Summer's character already, and the concept is interesting enough.

The name is kind of lame, but the trailer sold me on the series. I look forward to watching it.

....and to study your math. You need to work on that.

Hey hey NBC! They just might be on to some thing here. I'm stoked for the premiere.

I doesn't look as horrible as I imagined. But what any good superhero runs on is his villains. And if all this guy has is some corrupt politicians and gangsters, it's going to get boring after the 2nd season.

Let me correct my previous post, it's set to air mid-season in the Fall so one could guess it'll air in September
