Busting Ghosts Now A Sony-Only Activity

In a surprise move, Sony have picked up the publishing rights for Terminal Reality's Ghostbusters game in the PAL territories.

If you live in Europe and were looking forward to upping your gamerscore while catching ghosts, you've unknowingly set yourself up for a big disappointment as Atari passed the publishing torch for Ghostbusters over to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in a surprise 11th-hour deal.

In a statement to GamesIndustry.Biz [http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/multiplatform-ghostbusters-release-for-us-in-june], Atari's CEO and President Jim Wilson said "We assessed the situation of the Ghostbusters franchise in Europe and saw that a united partnership with Sony was the best approach to maximize the long-term value of the franchise. We have an opportunity here to have first-party support behind such a significant franchise and the opportunity to then go back and publish the other SKUs later on."

It's not clear exactly how much later 'later on' actually is, although Wilson denies that the move was due to a lack of money on Atari's part and also states that the success of the Sony versions, which include a PSP version later in the year, will not affect the game's releases on other platforms. This deal comes not longer after Sony called Microsoft out [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/90937] for paying for exclusive content, and while it would be unfair to load all the blame onto Sony, it does make their accusations ring somewhat hollow.

Oh, if you live in the US, ignore the entirety of the preceding article, as Ghostbusters is getting a multi-platform release as planned on June 16th.

Hm...

And why is it that piracy is such a troubling issue?

Oooh, yeah. One of the reasons - developers don't give a shit about consumers.

I've got nothing important to say in this thread.

Do I need to say that this is a perfect visual analogy on how Europeans always get litterally buttfucked by the videogame industry?

I'm not sure whether this is a dick move towards Europe in general or Microsoft. I know Australians have it bad, but why the hell do we always get fucked over nearly as bad?

Although I can hardly say I care about thsi title. I care not for Ghostbusters. It's just that I hope this doesn't become a trend.

Dammit Sony! I'm not going to buy a PS3 and that's the end of the matter, just let me have my Ghostbusters game on 360!

Why is Poppinfresh bleeding? And inebriated?
Realizing he wasted his life being a corperate sell-out, Poppinfresh became a notorious booze hound to drown out his inner voices of guilt... oh, and he tripped and fell.

Anyway, I wasnt interrested in this game much before, but all the stuff Ive heard about it for quite a long time now has finally started to pique my interest and I'm glad I'll be able to get it on my 360.

I wonder if they tried to snag a WORLDWIDE temporary exclusive but couldn't, and then settled for this?

I like how it's okay with Microsoft exclusive DLC in GTA IV and Fallout 3, but as soon as Sony does it with games...

Sorry, is DLC a full game? No. Please take your flawed logic somewhere else sir.

the PC version (which is the only interest I have in the whole affair) will be released in the US on schedule, in other words, it'll be available to the world minutes after midnight on release day.
Now watch Sony whine about the death of PC gaming as their sales 6 months or even a year later for the PC version of the game are abysmal, while the only one to blame are themselves.
