Nintendo Doesn't Want Your Satisfaction

Core gamers aren't satisfied with what Nintendo does for them, the company has admitted. But that's just how it should be, they say. After all, if Nintendo satisfied us, what fun would that be?

In an interview with Bitmob [http://bitmob.com/index.php/mobfeed/The-Full-Interview-Nintendos-Denise-Kaigler.html], Nintendo's Denise Kaigler admitted that her company is unable to satisfy the appetites of "core gamers" (whatever that means) for "everything Nintendo." She's right - we want more Mario, more Metroid, more Zelda. Less Wii Fit, less Cooking Mama (okay maybe more Cooking Mama).

But instead of admitting that Nintendo should be doing more to satisfy core gamers, Kaigler reasons that withholding satisfaction from them is the best way to do things: "When we get to a point where core gamers say, 'OK, Nintendo, enough! We don't need any more games from you guys...' None of us wants to be in that position, right?"

See, it's a complex relationship where Nintendo is the provider and gamers are the consumers, and when gamers stop wanting to consume, Nintendo loses its purpose. "We don't want your appetite to ever be satisfied, because when we satisfy you, it's time for us to go," Kaigler said. "And none of us wants to go home. So there's this sort of fun...relationship, I think, that's happening between Nintendo and the hardcore gamer - which we enjoy and hope that the core gamer enjoys it."

Core gamers of the world, do you enjoy it? Do you really enjoy it?

not fully satisfying us is one thing. But it would be nice to have enough games to justify buying the thing

Nintendo should start selling all the old stuff again. Imagine if NES and old gameboy games were sold at Gamestop again? I know I would buy em.

"Okay, I'm crappy in bed, but at least you're not having too MANY orgasms... that would be much worse, right baby? Right?"

I think a better analogy would be "Ok well maybe you aren't enjoying the sex as much but at least your mum doesn't mind it."

See, it's a complex relationship. If Nintendo feels the best way to keep a relationship with the gamer is to not fully satisfy them, does that mean gamers should feel it's best not to fully pay Nintendo?

After all, if we fully paid them then Nintendo might say "alright, that's enough, we don't need any more money from you."

Um, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

No, you see Nintendo, it's like this: you give us games we want and we buy them. If you don't give us games we want, we won't buy them.

That's how the relationship works. Not the...I don't know how to describe...clustered mess you just said.

Oh, and take it from somebody with experience: if you give a fat dude food that he loves, he'll just want more. His appetite will never be satisfied. Give him food he hates, he'll go somewhere else.

Are you kidding? She should do all Nintendo's press releases and interviews. It'll be comedy gold.

Denise Kaigler is one of the worst PR people when talking to the press. Anything that comes out of her mouth is a disaster. "Not satisfied with us? Good! That's the way we like it and you do too."

Ya know what would satisfy the "core" is some new mascots that want to go on amazing quirky adventures. Have an adventure that calls for someone in their 20's or 30's instead of being a kid, give the "core" audience someone to relate to again as a hero.

The "core" didn't start playing nintendo games because of blood, gore, swear words and tits. They bought nintendo games because they challenged the mind and skills giving that sense of satisfaction. Games of endurance, games of adventure, games of challenge. Create those again and that will satisfy the core. Let the next generation suggest their ideas of heroes and mascots and the world they exist in and ask them why does this mascot exist, how does this mascot differentiate himself from others.

Just get Kaigler to shut her mouth when it comes to the "core" because she obviously has no idea what she is talking about.
Testify! Nintendo got the bucks because they did most things well and kept the dross down; unfortunately, when games started getting "mature" Nintendo decided they'd stay kid-friendly. This is a crock anyway, many of those older games had rather grown-up themes, but the graphical limitations kept the shock value low. It seems the games they know how to make are for kids, or not for kids, ie, violent. Innovation, Katamari Damacy style, GTA style, Ratchet & Clank style, just isn't there.

The Wii is great for kids, and it's awesome somebody finally managed to make senior-citizen friendly games, but... where's our group, the ones who played it as kids and young adults and are looking for better fare than XBox FPS and sports games, or PS3 "I'm better than you because what I play is platform exclusive" games?

There's no market for us, and that's why my Wii is busy doing other things than loading Wii games (wink to all you lovely homebrewers out there).

Ok I understand that they will eventually run out of ideas and have to start rehashing the classics but if they don't make more than five good games for the damn thing their not satisfying anyone not core gamers, not casual gamers, not even house wives with nothing better to do.

You know Nintendo eventually every old person, and house wife will have a Wii and every damned "game" you have for it. So don't you come crying to us when you want some more money.
