Kinect Gets Its Very First Alleyway Brawler

Microsoft's Kinect finally has a game that will let players get violent in unsanitary locations.

Kinect [http://www.amazon.com/Kinect-Sensor-Adventures-Xbox-360/dp/B002BSA298/ref=sr_tr_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282222464&sr=8-2]'s lineup had a focus on cute, family friendly titles, until now. Ubisoft has announced Fighters: Uncaged, a motion fighting game that will let players beat up thugs, bikers, and other types of characters of the same ilk.

Fighters: Uncaged appears to be a mix between a simulator and straight up brawler. Developer AMA Studios promotes the game as one that will teach real mixed martial arts techniques, such as the "authentic fighting style of Thai boxing," but the game has players fighting in the streets, in alleyways, and on rooftops.

Over 70 different strikes will be at the player's disposal that use every part of the body, from punches, kicks, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and headbutts. The game's 21 environments also include "gritty city docks" and waterfalls.

Fighters: Uncaged has the pretty revolutionary storyline of the player being forced into a secret, illegal fighting tournament. I know, it's a Kinect game, I wasn't expecting Moby Dick. New skills can be unlocked along the way and there's even a multiplayer co-op mode so families can beat up overly-tattooed men together.

I was wondering when Kinect would get its motion beat-them-up, and here it is. Wait, did someone say I get to fight near a waterfall? I've wanted to do that since I was three years old. I know Fighters: Uncaged sounds somewhat unimaginative, but it seems to present the reality of playing a brawling videogame with our entire bodies, something that kids have only seen in movies until now. It could be pretty fun.

Cant wait for more original games like this *rolls eyes*. Just plays into the gimmicky nature of the device. At least Kinect is original in its technology so props to that but lets if studios can back the device with some solid innovation and creativity

I can see this ending in tragedy.

Apart from the fact that it's teaching kids to beat others up, there's also the idea of muscles.

Any martial artist/gymnast will tell you about warming up first and there's gonna be some brawlers left in an awful lot of pain from their own muscles giving out.

Taking bets on how long it'll take someone to seriously injure themselves playing this.

I'm down for a reporter during the 2nd press demo.

You surely can't be serious, can you, Root?
OT: Ah, it looks good enough, and, even if it didn't, it's at least a really good idea and first genuine proof that Kinect could be worth for something.

Also in the news: TV sales have increased shortly after the release of Fighters: Uncaged, after what experts agree is a case of "kicking your brand new HDTV" that has been sweeping the nation. More at 11!

OT: Hopefully it's good. It may sell the doubters to motion control. Then again, maybe not.

Also, the "an unsanitary locations" is grammatically incorrect. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

;)

Actually I've already had it happen to me. One of the motion sensing games in the arcade has a gunfight in a disco and it checks your body pattern to tell when you're ducking or not. I had severe muscle cramp after playing that for half an hour.

Edit: Oh, you meant teaching kids. Sorry. Well, what do you think the Daily Mail/Faux News will make of it?

LOL How many people can see themselves losing a fight a half hour into a game because they are so damn tired from jumping around that long? Even professional fighters would get worn our if the fights were 15 rounds long.
Well, it helps build cardio!

OT: See, this is what I'm talking about. I'm already planning to get Kinect, so stuff like this is encouraging to see. The games announced before this would be perfect for my wife, and our non-gamer family and friends. And now I'll have a little something for myself and my quasi-gamer friends! Obviously we'll have to see how reviews are, and if the game delivers, but it's at least nice to see that developers are putting some weight behind this.

"Hey lets make a game called Fighters! FIGHTERS!"

This is all very creative of them, it's just that boxing game from the Wii with more 'angsty teenager' appeal.

I'm sure they'll re-release Kinect Sports as well with blood splats and angry faces to appeal to the more hardcore of gamers.

Be even more confusing and cluttered in the living room if theres a two player function. I can foresee injuries and broken furniture with this game

Well, that is not exactly the problem of the developers, is it?
Also, Airplane. Nice.

Seems like a decent enough idea in theory... but I think they need a stronger and more established IP behind it. Wonder if Capcom is working on anything for Kinect...
