May I ask why you pre-order games that have virtually zero chance of selling out on even day one?Candidus said:Deadspace 2 (bought)
Dawn of War 2 Retribution (preordered)
Dragon Age 2 (preordered)
Shogun Total War 2 (preordered)
Sims Medieval (curious, preordered)
Two Worlds 2 (waiting for reviews)
Witcher 2 (preordered CE like the fist of the north star)
Earthrise (fantastic MMO, bought)
TERA Online (day one purchase)
Guild Wars 2 (waiting for CE, will preorder like fist of north star double)
Mass Effect 3 (waiting for CE)
Above are the ones I wouldn't go without no matter what. This year is looking pretty expensive, but so much better than 2010, which was pretty barren except for ME2 (If you avoid Obsidian like the plague it was).
Also, it's the year of the PC baby. There's a tonne of exclusives I haven't listed which I may yet buy. Can't wait.
better to be safe isnt it? i dont know about the original poster but ive gone to get games that i thought wouldnt sell out on day one and had to wait a few weeks to get themTreblaine said:May I ask why you pre-order games that have virtually zero chance of selling out on even day one?Candidus said:Deadspace 2 (bought)

I mean it made sense back in N64 days of expensive cartridges but as far as I know most of those pre-orders don't come with any perks (like minecraft's beta access), most of those lack even a 10% discount and the 10% discount usually continues into the first week a bit.
This is just me but I never pre-order, I always consider it worth while waiting a week to check the reviews and general buzz. Then if it isn't ground breaking I wait till it is on sale. I've been burned too many times by "It's gotta be good" like GT5 and MGS2.
Sure. In the case of sequels to games the prequel of which I already own, like Dawn of War 2, ME3, DA2 and so on, it's an easy decision and hopefully makes sense. With games like the Witcher 2, I'm willing to take the leap because the CE is unlikely to be around when I'm able to make an informed decision.Treblaine said:May I ask why you pre-order games that have virtually zero chance of selling out on even day one?
Seems reasonable enough, though I've never found myself in a situation where I want to buy a game and simply no copies are available, maybe that's the efficiency of Southern England's retail industry, maybe because most of my PC purchases are on steam sales.Candidus said:Sure. How to explain the rest? Well.. Put it this way, I preordered Dragon Age 1 and loved it, same with Deadspace and the first Mass Effect. But I didn't buy Two Worlds (the original). I just didn't- and that turned out to be the right move. I've made what I deem to be pretty good decisions based on whatever media is available regarding a game before its release, and I've avoided the real lemons just by intuition. I would argue that it's possible to know a bad game when you see it, sometimes no matter how it's spun.
You'll notice I'm waiting for a review of Two Worlds 2!
